The longest period of time you ever have to bash a shield user is 11 hits before they run out of stamina and are forced to drop their shield. Less with higher stam drain weapons.

I had the same argument you're having with an alpha player like 3 days ago saying kick should have longer range and he told me kicks used to have longer range in the alpha and it was fucking cancer. I mean, it's literally unblockable apart from using a kick yourself. Fights turned into either kick spamming or the first guy who got a kick in kicking his opponent to death. That's why it is the way it is today.

And it's still totally usable, you just have to actually use footwork.

One good horseman or really good fighter on a flank can make all the difference. Engineer and medic bag spam also make it extremely difficult to dislodge your team once you take a point, and firebombers can counter the enemy engineers. The options are there, just nobody uses them because grug smash.

I've noticed certain maps are a horribly shitstain of a stalement.

Taiga for example, because Red will always capture the middle point because their second spawn is in a much easier location to take it than Blue's, but then you're in a horrible status quo because the middle spawn for red is so fucking far away from the second spawn for blue, and its a horrible meatgrinder across chokepoints to then destroy an objective, and then take the point.

So essentially everyone of my Taiga games is
>Red holds Middle and gets a 300 ticket lead, and towards the end starts intermittently capping blue, while blue every once in a while caps middle for 30 seconds

If you open the server browser and set the game type to Deathmatch you'll find a lot of duel servers where you can do that

I can dodge at full sprint too. Sprint isn't the catch all be all you want and is just as much a gimmick.

Accurate, but those times when Blue captures and maintains middle Red gets FUCKED. I've only seen it happen 3 times in 61 hours but all three times Red has the most awful experience imaginable. For both of Red's last two spawns there are only two paths outwards to the rest of the map, and if Blue owns middle they'll quickly block them off permanently. Red is then trapped in their spawn area getting annihilated by Blues seconds after spawning, and if Blue takes the time to set up a handful of spikes and two ballistas then they can literally spawncamp the Reds from unassailable chokepoints.

If Red fucks up and loses the fort then they should just retreat to the corner of the map and let Blue take all the objectives so they can spare themselves from medieval Normandy.

Just don't walk in them lmao

You get a speed boost while sprinting towards someone who's running away, freshie. Shoulda played melee instead of cheese and you'd know this. And dodge stamina runs out eventually, and doesn't regen while sprinting away.

My friends aren't great at this game, they're not terrible at it, well some of them are, but none of them are topping the leaderboards. You know those guys that get into a terrible, obviously no-win situation and then complain about nobody backing them up? That's my friends right there.

If I try to help them, I die in a stupid manner, they get in the way, take nonsense lines in a fight, do lots of team damage and can't hold their own in group fights. Probably more than half the time I've thought "I'll go help that teammate over there" I've died for it. You do the best in this game when you realise something cannot be won and just leave two or three people to die their stupid death and you retreat until conditions/numbers are more favourable for an attack. You win more if you treat your team like expendable fodder, and winning more on your own is more fun than losing while your friend screeches over discord that someone is using feints too often.

Then again I'm pretty autistic and generally don't like people so maybe it will be different for you.

Shields and Rapiers and Spears are pretty gay to play against, sure, but is anyone else actually fairly satisfied with the game balance? I don't actually see those abovementioned shitters getting many kills. Fuckload of builds to mess around with too. And every time I play something like Builder and set up with a ballista for max cheese, I end up getting less kills than when I play as any melee class.

No. If all the maps were small choke point maps like grad it would be boring. One map would be essentially the same as any other. The problem isn't that it is too open, the problem is that you lack any real way to co-ordinate a team. Without voice chat you have no way of reliably letting the entire team know that the left flank is crumbling, that a horse is in your back lines preying on reinforcements, nothing.

And don't tell me about text chat, only like 1/5 people read text chat because mostly they are focused on fighting and shit

so far i had little success with the standard controls because choosing direction with mouse has the side effect of moving my view so the game feels nauseating and shaky.

Those voice calls are useless since most of it is gibberish, the follow me command for instance rarely just says "follow me" and more often spouts some shit like "COME HITHER" which relegates it to comedic purposes only.

They've hamstrung their own game and limited what can be done with it.

i remember in a video that there was a menu where you could check how much damage each weapon did against all the various types or armor.

not sure where it is but check your weapons so that a combo of 2 chest hits/ 1 chest + 1 headshot does as close to 99 damage as possible and then run with that weapon

Optimization is weird in this game. Textures are the most demanding to actual GPU usage, at least for me. Usually that's a big impact VRAM usage but not in this game. I have to turn them down to medium in 64 player games or horde mode, maybe because of all the different armor textures or something.

depends on how you want to play. im gonna assume youre straight so we'll ignore ranged weapons. i'd say start with the messer. its a strong weapon with a 5 point buy that can be used in 1 or 2 hands or with a shield. start from there and work out if youd prefer faster weapons with less damage, longer and slower weapons with high damage etc

There's plenty of unrealistic shit already in the game. There are players who literally run around naked, who run around with frying pans, a lot of swords are still relatively effective against armor (although weaker), people using rapiers against heavy armor, an executioner sword actually being used in battle, etc. It's not meant to be 100% realistic and the devs outright said so from the beginning, it prioritizes fun

they both do decent damage to poorly armored sections and open enemies up to being attacked by your mates. rapier slashes and short grip spear swipes do good headshot damage even vs level 3 armor. you can also feint slashes into kicks which give up a poke. poking weapons do about as much damage with slashes as the executioner sword does with pokes, but theyre a lot faster and usable with a shield. if you map left and right poke to different buttons you can stab around shields and guards by turning and moving in the correct way too.

the real issue with poking weapons is that they do really poor damage in terms of group fights where youre outnumbered. even if you play perfectly youre eventually gonna get banged down by someone with a big weapon. zweihanders and executioner swords etc are much easier to win with when outnumbered as it only takes one good chamber to guarantee you remove someone's head with a slash. might not even be the guy you chambered, but someone is getting it.

Because it is a good game that allows me the freedom to be a creative dickass that i do this.
