one apartment I was in once had a bunch of net issues with no apparent cause, so I eventually got the ISP's maintenance guys out and it turned out their cables running to the building were completely filled with water somehow so they just had to run new lines.

I don't play the game much, but I have been lurking here a couple nights and watching tourney footage lately out of interest. It seems like everyone is scared of some guy named clearlamp who plays byakuya, so I thought that character must be the best. I dont see anyone playing phonon or seth, so I dont know how those characters could be good. I'm open to learning why thats the case though, cause obviously I dont understand much right now.

clearlamp is just a legacy player who has learned and understands the game on a deep mechanical level so you're not getting past him unless you have at least as much knowledge as him, regardless of who you play or how bad the matchup is

I dont know who those other guys you mentioned are, I come from SFV. In that game most top players end up playing one of a few good characters. I'm trying to understand what's going on here, is UNISTs balance just so good that a player like clearlamp can dominate with a character who isnt the standout best? What makes a character strong in this game, and if people seem to know whos strong, why are there so many who arent playing them? I guess I just cant believe the balance is that tight.

Your assumptions based on such a limited scope is wrong, as you must have already figured out. ClearLamp is a Japanese player who's been winning UNI nationals for two years straight so his Byakuya is on another level

Aside from Clim, I don't think there's another Top level player who plays Phonon that wins stuff frequently. I have no idea which tourneys you've been watching but I assume you watch the NA scene. If my guess was correct then there's a reason why you don't see Seth and that's because no one in NA except Brett really competes at the highest level with him.
And even then, Brett is nothing compared to the likes of Sero, Tsushima, and Oshu who are, once again, Japanese

Yes, it's relatively balanced outside of really skewed match-ups for the less advantageous characters. I think the tourney scene in 2018 had 18 out of the 20 characters in Top 8 at some point are another.

The balance is quite good. A tournament in Japan just recently had Gordeau vs Nanase finals, and both are considered low mid-tier.

She's got some static hitstun that makes getting getting her off annoying but it's not like just anyone can make use of her kit as well as redblade does.
I hate to constantly bring him up but when you fight him enough it really brings to light how poor your average Wagner fights.

This is good advice. During my match against Beatie earlier, I was getting DP punished quite easily due to AA spam and even lost a round to it.

Grind out the lobbies enough and you'll get there, I guarantee it!

I parry randomly, mostly under stress. Most of the time I never know if it's going to work, unless it's Wagners 4b(?) That's super easy to parry since every Wag does it as their combo for the first week.

Yes, wags who use that in her blockstring will almost always get parried by Yuzu. Go test it yourself it yourself.

I think once you start ironing out the little things that could push you to even greater heights like building up your defensive game and learning how to tick throw (what I was doing to you a few rounds before wrapping up when I just hit 5a > grab) and teching said tick throws you'll be well on your way to playing a much better game.

Also glad you were able to face GonD in the end. Hope you managed to learn a few things from him since he definitely has picked up some new stuff since the last time I fought him.
