I think Rocksteady has a pretty loose leash on what they choose to make.

1. After Arkham City they went straight into development of a next-gen title. Moving to next-gen as early as 2011 is something most publishers wouldn't have allowed considering how large the PS3/360 install base was and how the narrative at the time fomr "experts" was "nobody is buying consoles anymore; the future is mobile".

2. WB forced Montreal to include shitty multiplayer in Origins just for the sake of having that bulletpoint on the back of the box. They didn't make Rocksteady do the same thing

3. They got to make Arkham VR with the "main team" (not outsourced to a satellite studio). Again that is a move most publishers wouldn't have allowed given the small install base for VR headsets.

The only major meddling I see WB doing with Rocksteady is making all the alternative costumes exclusives to various retailers and pre-order bonuses. Whatver Rocksteady is working on now, I'm sure it's something they wanted to do. That said, I'll be majorly depressed if it doesn't involve Supes.

My biggest gripe with the game is that there was no mind blowing Easter Eggs like the last two games (Asylum being the best). Sure, it has lots of secrets of course. I mean something that was near impossible to find and when it was, it told us what was next in Rocksteady's future.

Even the strange Calendar Man easter eggs from the last two games just ended up with him briefly being seen outside Wayne Manor as it explodes.

Arkham Knight deviated from the working formula too much compared to previous titles. It was simple, Fight/Stealth/Story, repeat. Then it became Cinematic/Fly/Cinematic/Fight/Cinematic/Fly/Fight/Cinematic/Batmobile/Cinematic/BatTank/Cinematic/Batmobile/Cinematic/Walk/Cinematic/Take two fucking steps/Cinematic/ etc. Like we get it, Rocksteady, the game looks pretty, but half this game is cutscene and the other half is batmobile.

I love Arkham City overall, but as a story even it was starting to show signs of wear and trouble by the last act. The more the trilogy diverged from status quo typical Batman stuff the worse it got. I have no doubt this was in large part the reflection of Rocksteady's increasing involvement with the story. Arkham Asylum's story might be basic but that's why it works: the setting itself is the real star of the show.

It's not surprising to me that Arkham Knight's story was such a mess, but it was surprising how hard they managed to bungle so much of the rest of it. Some of the visuals are really gorgeous though; I love how the Cloudburst gas looks.

The graphics and amount of effort they put into the city and batmobile is something else.

Arkham City has the weakest story of all 4 games. The game has a great premise with Protocol 10, but then diverts into an equally interesting Joker plot. But then Protocol 10 is pushed to the background and the Joker subplot is just a constant goose chase that allows them to throw in a bunch of the rogues gallery.
Knight has some sloppy elements, but Arkham Knight is a good character that doesn't really waste time introducing himself and showing up a lot. His failure also ties in really well to Batmans struggle with Barabara and the overall theme of the game.
The Joker blood subplot is a easily the worse part of the story, but personally I can suspend my disbelief enough to like what it did overall in connecting once again with Batman's struggles and the themes overall

In one part of the game you are told to electrocute guys in water.
Im pretty sure that would kill them.
Also using the lethal shells takes out guys near the blast.

The Knight may be a lackluster villain but his militia is 10/10. The Batmobile is decent when you turn battle mode toggle on, though some of the mission types are questionable.

What you are looking for is they need to do something fresh with the joker, leave him out or push a new villian.
If anything Hamila joker peaked with the cartoon and why people like Heath's joker since it was revolutionary.

If you liked the others, then definitely. It has some clunky things, like counters sometimes not registering, but that doesn't happen too often. It also lacks the voice actors from the other games, but the replacements do a fine enough job. It's also clear that it's more of an expanded Arkham City, not a proper sequel. Give it a go
