The Garo collab ending reminded me of pvp's existence and I tried it for the first time yesterday, played a few more rounds of frontlines today. Still seems chaotic as fuck but I might humor it enough to get some of that gear and maybe titles, the weapons are pretty cool for the most part at least. Also messed around with crafters for the first time in a long while, at the moment I only have Alchemist at 31 and Culinarian at 20.

When I first started ARR at launch I tried to be 100% self sustaining. I tried to only wear items and use weapons that I personally crafted and not use any vendors. I only made it to level 40 before the grind was too much to bear and I just bought everything for the rest of time. Now I have all crafters maxed and all gatherers maxed and I only buy equipment. I wont even use equipment from dungeons anymore just market board equipment for me.

Is "hardcore" raiding in FFXIV as time consuming as it is/was in WoW?

Yeah, even with Ixal and other tribe quests it feels like such a slog to get anywhere. Add in you're not only gathering/crafting for your crafters but you need gear to do it competently so working on it early on isn't easy.
Really if you didn't need to be a whole other job to make some shoes I'd be more enthused about crafting.

Game could have been legit WoW killer with better combat and quest design. I wouldn't care if it were more like ESO and WoW with FF elements. The problem is everything is just shit in FFXIV. The Devs themselves have stated (multiple times already, in fact) that the reason they struggle so much bringing the healers into line is because SCH's fairy exists as an MP free, GCD free, always active healer-bot that pumps out a fuckload of free healing at virtually no negative or cost.

If your argument is that healer should be balanced around some of the easiest content in the game, I'm not sure how to argue that with you, because it obviously shouldn't be. Even with Embrace, SCH being as massively OP as it is with all of its other 'hit once to win' buttons would delete any difficulty presented. Especially in dungeons.
