She's a spider that isn't burdened with the whole "great power great responsibility" thing like Kaine started out as. With her everything she'd done was to get her closer to finding out where her family has gone to. In spite of that though, she still went out there and did good. I like it, it's not this overbearing altruism that no one can ever hope to live up to (like superman). It's just "Do the thing, and it'd be nice if you did good things on the way to doing it".

She has her pros, depends on who writes her character.

I think that's the literal problem. Ketch is like the cool reinvention of the character, but Blaze will always be more famous, old comics fans will look to him as a default in their mind, new ones just know the movies or Robbie so default to those. Maybe in a few years Ketch will be the nostalgic default.

Blame Ike Perlmutter who wanted an X-Men killer franchise, that when Marvel Studios booted him, he rushed out an Inhumans show in less than a year. To give you an idea how rushed the production was, they gave Mark Brooks only TWO DAYS to create the costume designs. This is all he could come up with and they just went for even lazier costumes than this.

Also hilarious, the Inhumans owned slaves in the show and Maximus lead the slave revolt, yet the Inhumans were the heroes and Maximus was the villain.

Most of Marvel's editors were let go around the 2010's/2012's. If you go back and read comics around that time, you might notice a weird finality to a lot of books yet they kept going. With most of Marvel's editors gone, the writers just sort of shot the shit. Bendis was outright contradicting other people's work, and they had to adjust to it. Like, it's gotten really bad that you can easily predict how the next Marvel trend will go when they introduce a new character and their book is just a parade of the same team ups.

See the left page? That's called Bendis speak. Almost all his dialogue reads like this. You might think it's fun at first, but it gets really tedious really fast. It's also how he pads out issues. He can have issues wasted with shitty conversations (an issue of Ultimate Spider-Man is "Is it worse to be black or fat") with very little payoff.
This guy constantly have issues where nothing happens but a last page hook, that when you get to the climax, it's over in an instant. They have a story arc, running two books, where Norman Osborn creates a new Dark Avengers, unites AIM, Hydra and the Hand as one army, and the Avengers just beat the Dark Avengers, and Norman Osborn is defeated by TOUCHING! Like, the heroes all line up to touch him when he has the super adaptoid and he just melts. Nothing climatic.
Bendis constantly shits on characters he doesn't know to prop up ones he likes. His Avengers run starts with him killing Ant-Man, Hawkeye, and Vision, and having She-Hulk shamed into leaving, and all that just to put Wolverine and Spider-Man on the team, and Luke Cage and Spider-Woman cause they were his 70's crushes. Most of His Avengers run is just Luke Cage and Jessica Jones gushing over each other.
He has other characters killed so unceremoniously. Like, he killed Alpha Flight off panel, which coined the phrase "They've been Alpha Flighted!" He had the Hood pretty much assault Tigra in her own house, and it's up to his Avengers to get revenge. Nothing about Tigra.
Hell, he turned Hawkeye into a Ninja because "archers are lame"
Almost all his Avengers just sit around and eat food all the time when they aren't actually doing superhero stuff. Like, endless feasting pages.

I know some of this sounds petty, and there's a lot more, but trust me, if you read his big body of work, then see how other writers have to write around him, you'll see that he's just a shitty writer.

Rereading stuff really made me reconsider my favorites back in the day. I always through Cyclops was that square no fun leader who just poo pooed on the fun. I think one of the most tedious things in comics is that writers are fucking retarded with how freely they would kill characters with potential and they never come back, and yet they keep resurrecting the same popular ones over and over and just do the same shit with them. There are so many characters that were just gaining momentum until some asshat kills them off, and they always start over with another character. Shit is beyond tedious.

I'd say Spider-Man is generally better, but my standards have also been kinda browbeaten. Spencer's run has felt a lot like damage control so far rather than a particularly engaging story, but it's alright enough. Otherwise Marvel is more or less the same as it's always been, there's a few solid books and a bunch of trash.
