I thought this at first too but looking back it makes sense.
Blades ALWAYS will come back from their crystals, that much we can agree on. As for why they still had their memories, recall that whenever blades get sent to their cores they lose their memories only because they're sent to the Aegises for "processing" or whatever. In that way I guess it makes sense that the Aegis herself would still retain memories.
Either way, ending would have been 10x better if it just ended with a shot of the core lighting up in Rex's hand.

The worst thing that could've happened to Pyra and Mythra would be their current personality 'dying' via memory loss and being replaced by something new when Rex re-resonated with their core crystal (because he isn't their original Driver, and could potentially add in some kind of new influence that changed them a lot), which would be shitty, sure, but it isn't really the kind of death that scene implied.

It gets a lot of shit, but I think it has one of the best battle systems in the Xeno franchise desu. Can't just mindlessly spam moves, which was literally the bread and butter of the two games before it. Easily better than XS1 and XG for that very reason.

I went through most of the game expecting that there'd be some kind of reveal where Malos was just manipulating Jin and the other members of Torna the whole time, and they'd become good guys while he was the final boss.

I know. I was expecting Malos to ultimately turn out to be the dark aegis counterpart to Pyra. And while to an extent he is played as that for some of the plot, when it comes down to it they're meant to be equal and neutral, simply serving their masters/drivers. Also consider the fact that at the end, the triad of Alvis/Zanza/Meyneth is shattered by the true monado. How could Alvis be part of that triad while ALSO being the true monado?

I think the most sensible conclusion is that Shulk was given that Monado as Alvis' driver. He's no longer borrowing Zanza's. Alvis made this one specifically for Shulk.
I'm pretty sure it's never called the 'true monado' either. It's no truer than Zanza or Meyneth's. It's just a third unique Monado.

He’s the one who granted Shulk the power to wield the OTM because he IS Monado. That’s why he asks Shulk how he chooses to proceed after beating Zanza, because Shulk is the sole Monado wielder left, and as the Monado, Alvis takes orders from him just as he did with Zanza and Meyneth through their Monados but is also testing him to see if he will make the same mistakes they did. That’s why he also has the power to strip Zanza of them after his “defeat”, because Alvis no longer deemed Zanza as a worthy wielder.

As for the beams of light, I saw that more as the team giving Shulk the confidence to fully utilize Alvis’s power and manifest the OTM in the first place, just like how their simulations give him guidance when he’s being questioned by Alvis. But I think that particular scene is a little bit on the subjective side.

Agreed. I think the game did a pretty good job of making him a counterpart to Pyra/Mythra through some of the similarities in their character arcs, too. XB2's main villains weren't perfect or anything, but they really surpassed my first impressions of them, which were all pretty weak.

They didn’t shatter though. They combined and Alvis used his full power to put pause on the universe, ask Shulk, his “driver”, what was the next step, then proceeded to use that power to create a new universe. Shulk really just gave a single order, while Alvis did a lot of the metaphysical heavy lifting. How would he be able to do that if he wasn’t Monado?

I always have a lot of fun using Elma. Or really, any blade with a dodge move is fun. Agility tanking in this game is a good time.
And she isn't ideal or anything, but I like using Finch for her lines and that one skill that recharges her arts.

And if Alvis is supposedly the underlying admin directly responsible for all three monados, why does he even appear beside Zanza and Meyneth's monados? Also consider the fact that Alvis seemed genuinely surprised/intrigued by Shulk's visions/powers. Shulk obviously possesses some power which is not entirely within Alvis's control or understanding.

For what it's worth, I don't really think Alvis has ANY power whatsoever(in other words, he's not the power behind even Zanza or Meyneth's monados). He's more of a channel or conduit than a power source in his own right. Basically I think it's the opposite of how you're characterizing it -- wills, i.e. Shulk/Zanza/Meyneth provide the raw power, whereas Alvis channels and structures that raw power into something meaningful.

Kora bc you can constantly spam potions. Not the best blade for healing and usually considered pretty mediocre I believe, but even while slightly underlevelled, her potion buffs (like making them stay out way longer) were really fun to me.
Nia was also super fun to use. Really OP and satisfying.
I dunno if this makes me a massive faghag but healing blades were some of the most fun imo. There's something really great about spamming healing moves over and over and never dying, switching to offensive blades and mindlessly dealing damage/comboing, then switching right back to the healer, rinse and repeat. It was such dumb fun.

This was what I liked as well. Healer blades were comfy and had a nice leeway when I sucked to help me through fights.
When I got to late game and got gud healer blades became obsolete for me which kind of sucked. Everyone could just use the heal x% of crit damage accessory and heal to full every hit, feels bad.

Just because he isn’t a blade with a core crystal and all that other nonsense doesn’t mean that he didn’t manifest two identical weapons for two individuals so they could use his abilities, have his power divided between the two of them, and needed a third user to step in, help Alvis manifest a third weapon, defeat the remaining user, and use his full power now that he was “whole” to create a new universe. Alvis functions incredibly similarly to a blade even he isn’t one. Also, stop changing goal posts. The argument was whether or not Alvis was Monado, which he is, not whether or not he’s a blade, which he is not, even if he is blade-like in some regards.

Are you switching to and from Shulk, or between other blades? And I think both Nia and Pyra/Mythra need to be active at least once in the fight for it to count.

I think Dahlia belongs on Zeke because they both speak with the same dialect, the quest is in Tantal, and he gets a few jokes in as well.

KOS-MOS should also be on Zeke since her quest involves Zeke's niece.

Some Blade quests can also be started with or without certain characters.

The only things that ruin his development a bit are the fact that Zanza was possessing him for so long, and was apparently the cause of his anger outbursts or something. Having an external force be behind his previous flaws seems cheap to me.

Also, even if Ontos were outfitted as part of the blade system before disappearing, early blades didn't actually manifest weapons. It was only after the collective will of the people demanded them that they started manifesting, and it was a gradual transition. The fact that Ontos also produced weapons could be argued as a form of convergent evolution, but at that point, the important takeaway becomes the thematic implications of the weapons manifesting themselves, rather than the connectedness of the universes.

Blades may not have been created with weapon capabilities but, the similarities to Alvis and Monados nevertheless persist. Ontos is still probably Alvis. Ontos was part of a triad with Logos and Pneuma, a pair that later functions as blades. There may be inconsistencies but the connection seems to be pretty heavily implied regardless.

According to the Siren Model Kit, the Trinity Processor was made with a function being to create weapons relating to the conduit, so it wouldn't be too far fetched that a "Monado" is just one of many weapon blueprints patented by the Trinity Processor, so If Alvis = Ontos, then I see no problem with him handing out Monados to Zanza, Meyneth for whatever reason.

Ontos part of that, and Alvis (Ontos) does just that by creating Monados. Just as Aegises create Aegis Blades, which sometimes look identical to Monados (Malos fight on the cliffs of Morytha).

It makes more sense to think that each individual core was a "monado" maybe that was the name of their program and pneuma and logos stopped being "monado" to become "blade" while ontos, which disappeared before the cores were repurposed, remained as a monado. The trinity processor creates the artifices to defend the conduit because it was created to control and protect it.

This is supposed to be the general takeaway from XBC, but there are a few scenes that imply that Alvis does have free will but he is intentionally limiting his own decisions. For example, he teaches Shulk how to properly use the Monado early in the game without having any real reason to do so, and seems to prefer Shulk to the other Monado wielders that he has spent more time around, going back and forth between tailoring challenges for him and giving him preferential treatment during the final part of the game. Either he seems to think Shulk is actually a better option than Zanza or Mayneth, or he got bored of the other two and finds Shulk more interesting.

If you're talking about the part in Makna Forest, I wouldn't really say he didn't have a reason there. Alvis is working for Zanza at that point, so it'd make sense that he'd help make sure his vessel makes it to Prison Island.
The dream Shulk has in Tephra cave where Alvis tells Shulk that the future "is yours" if he can find the true Monado is pretty blatant favoritism, though.

Alvis does think that Shulk would be better than Zanza as a god, he even says that their current world is stagnant, he is intelligent but he follows orders. Also he told him how to use the Monado because Zanza needed him to do that, every vision Shulk got before the Egil fight was doctored by Zanza just so they could get to that point, they say so in the game, it was all the path Shulk needed to take for Zanza to return.
