Hand holding tutorials, cutscenes, linear paths mean no exploration, wolf segments, boring NPCs, boring dungeons aside from one, mediocre music, brown and grey design loses its appeal real quick, items are useless outside their dungeon, endless block/memory puzzles to fill time, more cutscenes.

I think user means that a sequel that reintroduced the twilight realm and midna was undercut the ending of TP where the tragedy was the realms had to be separated to protect them both. The problem here being no one actually likes that ending so it wouldn't really matter. Closing off the Twilight Realm never really felt like the culmination of the story, just something that these stories typically have to do at their ending.

Frankly this isn't so much a Zelda cycle as "any long running franchise cycle and even more generally how we view history as a whole." In the moment, negatives tend to matter more because we view them as immediate problems. Sicknesses or intrinsic deficiencies that are holding back the series and must be addressed. But once a few more releases have come out and things move on, we look at them differently. They're no longer immediate, and usually our worst fears weren't realized. So we highlight new immediate problems and tend to focus on how people actually overlooked the good stuff in the older versions.

Take a look at Star Wars and the rise in Prequel Trilogy defenders. I still think they're terrible movies, but without the immediacy of their immense problems as movies, it's easier to think back on how at least they tried to do their own thing. That they didn't pointlessly undercut the OT by retreading everything that happened in them and weren't being propped up by people who had other concerns than just making a big epic scfi fantasy movie. The problems the PT had aren't the problems the ST has no nor the problems the SW franchise as a whole has to grapple with any more.

OoT and TP don't really have much in common, other than TP happening several centuries after OoT which leads to a couple references. I believe the problem with TP is that up to that point Nintendo was too focused on turning OoT into the main event of the whole franchise, every single game had to be related to it one way or another and I believe that's what made TP and SS suffer in quality and storytelling.

Personally and in retrospective, I find the story of Twilight Princess incredibly charming and wholesome, but the horrible artstyle made it hard to get attached to characters like the kids or Ilia and you can totally see how rushed it felt at the end with the Twilight Realm being one single short dungeon and Zelda somehow being captive by Ganondorf without any explanation, even when she had supposedly sacrificed/fused herself with Midna.

Well to be fair he was shown after beating Arbiter's Grounds so at least halfway through the game we already knew he was the one actually responsible for all the stuff happening. Well there's Skyward Sword with the floating island inside the stormhead, that was taken directly from Laputa Castle in the Sky.
