It also didn't help that on top of it it was exclusive to the microsoft store for a while before it came to steam.

The game is great, best fighter from this gen easily. Problem was that microsoft was retarded and didn't invest on SFV. The FGC always latches on whatever console runs the games better, so when the biggest name in the entire community is an exclusive to a console that is already everyone's darling, you basically lose by default. Game is fantastic but without the support of the FGC it might as well be dead. It's last years were amazing tho.

No f2p on steam, if you've got W10 you can use the free characters, I think Jago and you get Sabrewulf after doing the story mode or something?
If you just mean how easy is it to get into, then it's pretty forgiving with the fancy combo system it has, you can do basic combos with just button special button special etc, and that's easily enough to enjoy the singleplayer stuff
Not much, actually. Best fighter this gen, one of the best made. Netcode is only just being surpassed 6 years after releasing. Great music. Only negatives were xbox exclusive/taking forever to be ported and the community. I think even NRS has less crybabbies than KI did.
Hopefully we get a sequel next gen.

KI was by far one of the most fun games to spectate. Had the madcap gimmickry of ASW games, but the universal systems were strong enough to follow what the hell was going on even if you weren't all that familiar with the game.

I remember the aria theme being kind of basic too, but then it got a revamp.
Besides the name, it failed at its only job: To actually appeal to people who liked Killer Instinct. It has none of the charm, the oomph, nor the kick (no pun intended) that KI and KI2/Gold had. Character design is overly busy and edgy, music is overdone/overremixed and overall is just a mess. If you still played any of the previous games by 2010 at least yearly, then this game felt nothing like something that would be designed with you in mind. It got slightly better over time, but imho it was doomed from the start.

I never wrote it's a bad fighting game, so claiming "muh nostalgia" is pointless when your main, primary, selling point is that this is a game part of franchise... yet feels nothing like it. If you change the title, put whatever music you want instead of the remixes that undeniably alluded to the previous games, and change some of the characters names, no one would even suspect this had any relation to Killer Instinct.

Never cared much for Orchid. For KI I usually played Glacius or Fulgore at the arcades, and Jago or Sabrewulf in SNES. For KI2 and Gold I stuck with Glacius and Tusk mostly, but I enjoyed Spinal as well.
