sure, when it can run all the games windows can and when the gaming industry starts taking it seriously then maybe i'll look into linux

back to /g/ filthy trannoid
>inb4 instal gentoo
no

"Free and open source" doesn't really matter. I just like Linux because Windows has gotten so shitty. The entire Windows OS just feels like once gigantic advertisement.

I wish this is a thing people would actually do, how bad does microsoft even have to fuck up?

>sure, when it can run all the games windows can
It can though.

Does it run japanese porn games? I don't think so.

Attached: ubunchu.png (639x871, 376K)

and yet it can't
that's only games from steam too, not to mention the big programs like adobe's stuff (which i use as well as many others) that don't have official support on linux
it might be better than windows in a lot of ways but it lacks in many other ways as well, so i'm just going to keep waiting until linux seems like it's at least on par with windows gaming wise

Attached: nope.png (780x208, 41K)

I'm not setting up a VM just to play regular games.

install gentoo

no
I use archlinux already

I've been playing AA2 on it every day. Runs better than it does on Windows.

Already done. What is it about this godawful board that makes people not onyt condemn linux, but actually defend windows?

Windows is shit, but Yea Forums is superior to /g/ in every single way.

how so?

And how many of those games that don’t work do you actually play? Linux will never be on par with windows for gaming, but it’s getting damn close. Personally, I realized that only a couple of my favorite games wouldn’t work, and I decided to make the switch. Windows is a shitshow and I can’t imagine using it for any longer.

Is the gentoo copypasta still banned?

'Gold means it's perfect with a workaround needed

Silver means it requires workarounds and still has minor issues

Bronze means you can play it but there's issues

Anyone can submit these ratings and they're not always accurate, sometimes Wine gets updated and game goes from "borken" to "platinum", but it still has those "borken" ratings.

The red bar of this means "doesn't work".

So like 85% of games work on Linux.

what is dual booting?

People still stuck in 2012 where everything linux was shit. I was one of them too, until I actually decided to try it out 2 years ago.

Well for one, Yea Forums doesn't have literal r*ddit mods banning you for wrongthink. Careful about posting on /g/. They issue 30 day bans site-wide just for not liking their favorite meme programming language.

You choose windows or linux at start up.

>go to steam settings
>click “allow steam play”
>launch steam game

>Mazda is shit, but the Yankees are better than guacamole in every single way

I believe that appears to be a rhetorical question, at least it appears so to my untrained eye.

Your mom is shit, and my dick is going in your butthole in every single way

Retarded. Make the full switch or bust, the majority of games run fine on linux. The only excuse is if you have to use some proprietary software for your job or something.

Nigger liking rust is an insult on programming languages.
Fuck off back to site that gets filtered in this phrase site to talk about faggot rust users and evil /g/ mods that remove your shitposting that adds nothing to the board.
Also fuck all brave and apple shills.

I like video games, no thanks.

no, post away

wine isn't acceptable for anything current
passthrough to a VM is looking more promising but it's not there yet

>fuck brave and apple shills
I always assumed they were just shitposters. There aren’t actually people shilling for that garbage on /g/, right?

Oh no I made a /g/ toddler mad. What are you going to do, hack me?

I'll install Linux on my main pc in 2020. Just shut up and let me have this final year with Windows7 in peace.

Attached: linuxgaming.jpg (817x633, 94K)

I recently set up a dual-boot on my laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate and Ubuntu 18.04. I noticed that games were running like ass on both, and realized my nvidia card wasn't working properly. I switched from the open source driver to the official one in Ubuntu in about 30 seconds, and it worked fine after that. I spent literally 8 hours trying to accomplish the same thing in Windows, but the driver refused to update and Windows disabled the card every time I tried to use it. Fuck Windows now and forever.

it would work if I didn't get stutter every few seconds
hopefully, my next build later this year won't have this issue...

/g/ is also one of the few boards that actually enforces the "no racism outside of Yea Forums" rule. Exclusively racism against Indians, though. They don't care if you're racist against blacks or mexicans. But don't insult Indians!

>wine isn't acceptable for anything current

Resident Evil 2 Remake, DMC 5, Ace Combat 7, Monster Hunter World, Dragon Quest XI, Sekiro

All work on Linux, and came out in 2018/2019

Stfu retard

You don't even know what an IOMMU group is.

add a (((merchant))) to the side of the error message

That's because /g/ mods and jannies are literally pajeets

i have games on my backlog for example that wouldn't work because they're on other platforms, like uplay
maybe wine could make them work but rather than trying to find out i could also stick to what still works for these games
and even then, like i said i use programs on windows that don't have support on linux, so i don't really want to make the switch right now

There are literal Microsoft shills moderating /g/. They get scared every single time this is posted.

Attached: qd5s3v57kxoz.png (1904x1104, 1.07M)

Wine is acceptable for a lot of games but for a lot of others you still need to fuck around with configuration and wine has only just started implementing dotnet successfully and even then games using dotnet run stable half the time.

Give it a few more years

>Urgent appeal to use a windows emulator

Attached: 8768.png (586x645, 597K)

So how legitimate is this image? I was honestly thinking about installing linux, but this has got me spooked. What are the ACTUAL repercussions of this?

Attached: 1557213544405.png (1080x2965, 1.35M)

Repercussions? The same as with everything related to Epic, loud as fuck shilling but nothing happens in the end.

I was thinking of adding a "grow up" message to it.

I felt like putting that together preemptively because I know as we get closer and closer to 2020 people will start shitposting more and more on the idea of migrating to Linux and I'm certain people are going to laugh and act all smug if there's even a single game in 2020 that doesn't work perfectly on Linux/Wine.

>"HAHAHAHAHA *WHEEZE* LINUXKEKS CAN'T PLAY *NEW RELEASE OF FEBRUARY 2020*
>Just grow up and install Windows 10 already, you losers!

twitter.com/TeddyEAC/status/1125665801493798912
>To clarify, Easy Anti-Cheat still provides native Linux support and will continue to do so.

Not all games are even optimized well for windows, intentionally introducing more error is a stupid decision that should be made fun of.

Attached: g.png (2100x1500, 976K)

I will as soon as there's a proper desktop solution available.

Well I'm using Windows 7 right now and I got better compatibility for all games on this platform than you do on Windows 10

Attached: tumblr_lp5xiqjadb1qgqigd[1].gif (300x232, 485K)

The fuck you mean? Kubuntu, Pop!_OS, Manjaro (or Arch) are all proper solutions. Pop!_OS if you just want to focus on games, Kubuntu for really really easy install and setup, and Manjaro or Arch if you want to feel like a big boy and fine-tune your OS.

There are so many good options out there that it's dumb to act the way you're acting.

try Solus. It's the closest thing to the Windows 7 experience and the Software Center has a really good selection of software.

lol

>proper desktop solution
Dude what
There's plenty of good desktop environments that are miles better than the bloated pile of spaghetti-code that is Windows 10's

Those are all fine if all you do is shitposting and/or spend hours customizing it just so you can post a screenshot in a tranny-riddled thread on /g/ or worse, a discord server.
People who actually work with their computers would rather have their shit working as it should, right away, and 100% of the time.

I will give it a try, won't hold my breath though.

Nah.

Ah, it's the usual "I do serious work on my home PC" lie.

>Nah.
great argument

>People who actually work with their computers would rather have their shit working as it should, right away, and 100% of the time.
And most GNU/Linux desktops do all of those things.
From my experience Windows 10 works more like 60% of the time

what makes something "red hat"

IBM

>2019
>still no quick option to automount NTFS partitions without editing the fstab
>thumbnail options in major file browsers are still fucky
>major DEs like KDE and Cinnamon still act funky (poor file drag and drop, weird system tray behavior, etc.)
>installing 32-bit dependencies on 64-bit systems is still more of a hassle than it needs to be
>still have to use MPC via Wine because of how shit Linux video players are
>good music players like Foobar2000 require using that Snap shit
Why it gotta be like this

Attached: 1550874783807.jpg (1077x1053, 84K)

I actually do serious work on my "home" PC since it's also one of my "work" PC.
But let's say I don't, are you actually saying Linux is not useful for "serious stuff"?
Well I agree and disagree, the only thing it lacks is a proper desktop environment, most especially now with Valve support for game stuff.

>great argument
Working with what you gave me.

>And most GNU/Linux desktops do all of those things.
Barely, all desktops ever available on Linux have always been a sad mockery of the Windows or MacOS versions of their time: half the stuff doesn't work half of the time, the other half doesn't work as it should, and when they finally catch up, there's yet a new iteration of a proper desktop already available. And I'm not even going into the myriad of different "alternatives" to programs readily available on those other OS.
But yeah, those screenshots sure are kawaii!

user only support will end and you never needed it in the first place.
The real death occurs when companies stop giving software support for the OS

>What is it about this godawful board that makes people not onyt condemn linux, but actually defend windows?
/v(ideogames)

>major DEs
don't use major DEs
>still have to use MPC via Wine because of how shit Linux video players are
use mpv
>good music players like Foobar2000
use cmus

everything else is valid criticism

>half the stuff doesn't work half of the time, the other half doesn't work as it should
Which desktop environment did you use?

Linux users paranoia about using Windows is /x/ tier. Unless you can give me solid information that Windows is bad I will continue to believe your use of Linux is just a means to be a special snowflake.

>spoonfeed me
It literally asks you when you install it if it can collect data from you, but by purchasing the license you already give it legal permission to collect whatever data it wants since it's proprietary software. There's no way to tell if it actually collects data or not but with a company as big as Microsoft it probably does.

I got a day ban here for using the Indian P word. It's not just that board
