>With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, we asked 'How could we reach not only fans of the Super Smash Bros. series, but also those who had never played it before?' If you look at the demographics of the consumers who purchased each of these titles, Iʼm not convinced weʼve completely overcome these challenges yet. So our aims are to keep working on them this year, to expand sales of these titles to new consumer demographics, and to keep selling these games for a long time, which is one of our strengths."
they're explicitly seeking other demographics who would potentially splash the cash on a Nintendo console if a character they like was added
not buying the season pass because i dont care that much about who makes or breaks it, but i will shell out cash for Porky individually
Luke Rogers
You guys do know at least two of those spots are reserved for a shillmon and 3 Houses rep. Right?
Blake Stewart
>Nintendo literally admits they'll be shill picks Apart from Joker, this shit is going to stink.
Angel Watson
GIVE ME THE GOOD HUNTER!
Dylan Carter
According to who? Because every source we have states the exact opposite.
Parker Ramirez
Reminder that Shadow is going to become playable.
Jason Sullivan
they already have the buy-in of Nintendo fanatics and all those are gonna do is piss people off
this is the time when shit like Chosen Undead/Dante/Ezio/Steve crop up
Dominic Garcia
So a 4th party character is in. You better cope that Goku is in now before you hurt your feelings
Leo White
Erdrick and Steve are next, it seems. Dragon Quest to catch the Japanese fans of DQ and Minecraft to try grabbing a few millions more players from the 80 millions a month who play it.
Ryder Jones
if they want to appeal to a different demographic then they'd use pic related
It still is a mystery as to what criteria will be considered when adding new characters. On one hand, I do not want any and everything that exists to be a possible inclusion. The best thing they can do right now is expand on the franchises already represented then go from there.
Pic related, Id love to see Red in smash. Would definitely fit in to boot. Could have trance alt outfit and Dahak FS.
>expand sales of these titles to new consumer demographics Erdrick, Doomguy, and Steve immediately came to mind when reading this. Joker must have been added to appeal to Playstation owners.
Jace Cox
>Doomguy It'll be Chief and you know it.
Liam Nelson
>Dante as Capcom rep >Crono as SquareEnix rep >Heihachi as Bamco rep >Banjo & Kazooie as M$ rep
I'd prefer Leon and Chosen Undead or Klonoa, but i wouldn't shake two shits at this pass.
David Jones
It's then pretty obvious that Nintendo will only make third party character as DLC. I think Master Chief, Crash, Steve, Dante or Heihachi are really more likely with this statement.
Or Undertale, but please no.
Blake Lee
>expand sales of these titles to new consumer demographics This basically deconfirms Banjo
We have the boomer army backing us, the game grumps crowd backing us, the Jontron base backing us, the Xbox horde backing us, and the old school squad backing us. What do DQfags have? A small country and the occasional western hipster weeb. Banjo simply has far more fans everywhere. DQ can't even compare.
Jason Parker
Makes sense why we would get characters from huge series with little Smash fanbase overlap such as Minecraft and Dragon Quest.
Bentley Nelson
>Crono Based
Juan Diaz
Pretty sure this is sarcasm, but it's honestly hard to tell. There probably are people who genuinely believe this.
Christian Myers
What if they add a Blizzard character just for the hell of it? Activision and Nintendo have had a friendly relationship and Diablo is on the Switch.
Daniel Bell
Down b counter
Tyler Cook
>if we get a Blizzard character it'll probably be Tracer >if we get a Bethesda character there's a chance it'll be Dovahkiin or some dumb Fallout shit
Erdrick and Steve are better suited to Mii Costumes than fully playable characters what are some other characters you think are better off as Mii Costumes?
Banjo appeals to the smash demographic so they all most likely already own the game. They want to branch out. Sorry but the bear and bird are on their last limbs.
Anthony Flores
>tfw just realizing that Nintendo might prefer Dragonborn to Doomguy just on account of Skyrim being one of the best selling games of all time JUST I am prepared to be disappointed.
Owen Moore
Heihachi Sora
Colton Stewart
>Sora Not in a million years
Jose Lewis
No one is less likely than Goku, samurai actively fucking hates the character
John Hall
>Get owned twice Do you mean they already did? Not a single insider saw Plant or Joker. Hell even if they saw Jack in the code they would have said it was Raiden or some shit
Alexander James
>Joker brings in the Playstation crowd. >Doomboy brings in the PC crowd. >Dark Saul brings in the "hard core" crowd. >Erdrick brings in a fuck ton of Japanese while also doubling as a shill character to promote DQ in the west. >Brown Brick brings everyone else in because it's huge.
That would be a great strategy and a great fighterpass too.
Justin Barnes
Someone like Banjo
Andrew Sullivan
>Banjo fans being as unlikable as possible, yet again No wonder Japan hates you
Dylan Foster
Sora is only wanted by smash fans. Unless sakurai breaks his own rule and includes non-vidya disney shit in smash then he's not likely at all given this statement.
Matthew Lopez
I've always preferred the Cheif so I hope so
Gavin Wood
Believing for a second they would pick Banjo over Steve You have no idea how big dragon questbis in Japan, shits terrifying
Carson Bell
I feel like most of those people either already own Smash or wouldn't buy a Switch just to play Smash
Michael Williams
Based and Spartanpilled
David Cook
>Autistic plant poster, every thread, every day I hope you keep this up after Erdrick or some other DQ rep is confirmed
Justin Jenkins
You are actually retarded holy shit
Sebastian Robinson
You can say any third party brings in any crowd. >SpongeBob brings in cartoon crowd >Hatsune Miku brings in Vocaloid crowd >Bayonetta, but wearing a silly hat brings in the "hardcore" crowd >Goku brings in anime crowd
Cooper Hill
This has gotta be sarcasm, or a falseflag
Angel Kelly
B A S E D
Jonathan Young
Would love a warcraft rep but itll be tracer, Kerrigan if were lucky
That's what people said about guns A tales of rep A fallout or elder scrolls rep An assassins creed rep
Andrew Price
I know several people that still only play minecraft to this day, given sakurai likes to take time and design movesets to accommodate the game series people would want to play steve in smash. Same with dark souls, people have never owned nintendo or smash but have told me "Damn if dark souls was in smash I'd buy it"
Doomguy has been in smash discussion for awhile but its still a different demographic more mature and the shooter genre is huge, plus attracting a western audience (even though master chief would do this better) and erdrick has never even been discussed till he was leaked to be character that means they were expecting him to be a surprise like joker was and attract the many DQ fans that grew up playing DQ3 especially.
Jeremiah Edwards
Maybe if they got a game sometime this decade their chances wouldn't be so awful
Sebastian Murphy
Do you know what an NDA is?
Camden Miller
The one restriction they have is that it must be a video game character. From there it seems they're picking popular characters from that aren't exactly popular with Smash players.
Michael King
>Spongebob >Hate miku >Goku >3rd parties lol
Brandon Flores
I'm an industry insider. I don't want to reveal too much, since i don't want to lose my job, but I can tell you I work with Nintendo of America very frequently, and so I've gotten to see some behind the scenes shit for smash. Based on what I've seen (it's still in development), but it looks like the next character to be revealed for the ballot (or possibly the third one, I don't know what order they're releasing them in) is going to be Motley Crue.
Julian Cook
Probably the best case scenario, both in terms of reaching new demographics as well as being an interesting set of new comers with a wide variety of weapons and powers to bring into smash
Owen Perez
What makes you think those Minecraft and Dark Souls fans will actually own up to those words and actually buy a Switch and Smash, instead of just saying "oh cool" and then never touching it? Especially since a large portion of those demographics are poorfags
Juan Peterson
Cringe
Cameron Smith
I mean he straight up said he’d love the character in, but Nintendo never approached him and Sakurai wouldn’t want him. That’s less about NDA and more just that he’s fucked
Chosen Undead and Solaire Doomguy Erdrick and someone that isn't shit but I suppose I would take a shit one if I got a good Souls rep and Doomguy
Josiah Robinson
So why go after people who might not even buy what you're selling, instead of someone whose interests are more likely to align with Smash as a whole
Tyler Fisher
Thats proper marketing though, its not that they know it will bring in these fans, but that they're trying to. And those 4 demographics are the most likely to sway one way or another.
as a DaS fan and a Smash fan a Souls rep is the only character that would make me give a shit about the fighter pass, aside from characters like Doomguy and Banjo who have even less of a chance. There's a lot you could do for stage ideas, spirits, music, etc plus it'd be nice to have an actual knight in Smash that used his fucking shield for once
>And those 4 demographics are the most likely to sway one way or another. Based on what professional research
Jaxson Cox
They already bought the fighter pass, why would you target them. Go after the untapped markets to not only sell more passes, but more copies of the game and maybe even more consoles.
>IGN: SEGA has put Sonic, Bayonetta and Joker in Super Smash Bros. Any chance Kiryu will make an appearance? Majima would make a great echo fighter. >Nagoshi: I don't think (Smash Bros director Masahiro) Sakurai is interested, haha. If he asked I’d say yes, but I don't think he wants them!
>IGN: He has characters like Snake in there – it’s not so dissimilar, right? >Nagoshi: Nah, that’s different. Even if they’re both killers, they’re pretty different. >Sato: I think it would be very interesting (to put Kiryu in Smash Bros). He could pick up a bicycle out of nowhere to whack opponents with, haha. There are so many strong characters in Smash Brothers, I wonder whether Kazuma Kiryu could defeat them!
That's not a definitive No.
Jayden Hernandez
>people are back on the Dante train because of the port I'm annoyed, mostly because it's DMC1 and not DMC3 but also because Joker is Dante enough with royal guard, gunslinger and DT
Luis Gonzalez
Joker is the stinkiest shill pick on the roster you filthy weeb.
David Peterson
not everyone who owns or likes Smash has bought the fighter pass already. Going after "untapped markets" still needs to consider whether or not those markets will care when all is said and done
Nathan Kelly
>Unless sakurai breaks his own rule and includes non-vidya disney shit in smash But Sora is from video games
Logan Reyes
>but also those who had never played it before?' >new consumer demographics I know about one profitable demographic that has geographical advantage, a reason to own a switch but no reason to own smash yet.
bruh sit your ass down If we're getting a Valve rep it will be Gordon instead.
Leo Nelson
Popular/well known franchises with a poor nintendo history who's parent company just recently or will soon put an unexpected or oddball release/releases on the switch.
Isn't TF2 less popular than Overwatch at the moment? I know it's older but how are the player numbers doing?
Grayson Cook
Think about it like this. Let's say they added a popular requested character like Banjo. Those people already play Smash based on market resesrch like the ballot. Many people will have already bought the pass to have all the characters, and many could be tipped over the edge based on just a couple characters. The best they can hope for is a few extra sales. Now lets say they add a character like Erdrick. Clearly there is little overlap between Smash fans and DQ fans. Putting him in could be the tipping point to sell more copies of the game and passes. Additionally, Smash fans may be inclined to look into the DQ series, increasing those sales as well.
Jeremiah Reed
>adults >playing smaah
Easton Wright
Gordon is fucking irrelevant, and nobody cares about him anymore. Heavy is practically Valve's and Steam's mascot for all intents and purposes.
Jonathan Hall
>Clearly there is little overlap between Smash fans and DQ fans based on
Owen Morris
see this guy gets it, there are no actual adults playing smash bros the perfect demographic to give their money to nintendo
Ayden Cook
Can’t wait till plantfags get BTFO.
Evan Howard
Guess I heard it wrong then, not gonna get my hopes up though
Leon/Jill/Chris Brings more mature fans and Resident Evil fans to Smash The Knight Brings the indie crowd to Smash Banjo & Kazooie Brings old school N64 era Rare fans who have since given up on Smash to the series Sora Brings Disney fans to Smash
Actual, genuine not-fake DQ fans has gone on record on Yea Forums to state that they and the rest of the DQ fans don't want Erdrick in Smash, ever. It's telling that everyone hates the idea of Erdrick in Smash Bros.
Logan Clark
Adults not playing video games is more of a cultural thing. In Japan, it is less uncommon for adults to play games, whereas in the west it is more tied to the idea of video games being for children. Old school characters like Mr Game & Watch and Pacman are already pandering to older folks. Another problem is that adults tend to have less time to spend with playing video games, a "free" mobile skinner box will be more appealing than spending so much on a console just to play bing bing wahoo fighters for 10 minutes.
Samuel Hill
The Japanese fans that are so fiercely loyal to the brand that there are national laws stating new releases can only occur on Fridays due to all the people that were skipping school and work?
Matthew Morris
Boy I said sit your fucking ass down. Team Fortress is a Half Life mod and you better have some respect to the originator.
Carson Wood
Book Character
Jaxson Thomas
so you're saying companies should purposefully choose characters at the bottom of their polls because there's a secretly a silent majority who would only buy the game if that character got in, but for some reason couldn't bother voting on said poll if DQ fans wanted Erdrick in, they would've voted for him more. If they voted for him, then there'd be overlap. If there's no overlap, then why would those hardcore JRPG fans buy a game that's decidedly not a hardcore JRPG just because one character they recognize is in it?
John Davis
Sora and banjo are the most circlejerked characters in smahs speculation. Every fan of them already owns the game. Unless they incorporate actual Disney shit in soras moveset, Disney fans could give less of a shit about him.
Carson Williams
Howso?
Austin Rodriguez
I'd argue in the west at least a lot of adults do play video games however they're also the same people that argue bing bing wahoo is for children only they're also poorfags most of the time
Charles Howard
that's quite literally a myth, try again
Nathaniel Williams
>next 2 characters are him and 2B >because Bamco worked out some sort of deal for them in SC and Smash hate it
Ethan Williams
Are you really going to take the word of anonymous posters at face value? There's a damn good chance most of those are falseflaggers. Erdrick is the most popular character of the 3rd biggest RPG franchise in the world. He's the obvious choice.
Cameron Hughes
I love Geralt, Witcher 3 is the best game of all time. He never appeared on a Nintendo console, though so unfortunately not happening
It's more because the generation that grew up with playing games is now on their 30s to 40s. In the context of smash, I think we should think outside of the box. What characters are popular but already frequently brought up by rosterfags? Those will be the ones outside of the "smash" demographic that Nintendo is looking for.
And thar small country buys more Dragon Quest more than the whole world buys Banjo you Bearnigger
Jack Bailey
A myth to you, Yankee Doodle
Kayden Ward
I meant characters who aren't frequently brought up.
Nathan Smith
He's also a book character
Aiden Reed
The point is there isn't an overlap. Why would they vote in a poll for a game they don't own? The point is to bring those people in. Tons of people would become interested if they got a character they like in.
Ethan Flores
>DOOM promotion on Switch >Sakurai acknowledges John Carmack as the father of FPS
True, but he's different enough from the novels. Also if you want to be pedantic there are already book characters in the game. The Creature from Castlevania is clearly Frankenstein's monster, and of course Dracula. Sorry to destroy you so hard online man. No one will know if you click the X icon on the top right of your browser
Joshua Davis
>I care enough that I would only buy this game if a character I like is in it >but not enough to voice my desire to have said character in the game when given the chance to officially do so
Evan Bailey
Would they bother shilling Starcraft? It’s already in a mostly f2p state. Maybe diablo to get the insect population that blizzard is shilling at. I would unironically enjoy something like Sylvannus if they go Warcraft.
Christian Lopez
If "insiders" end up being the real deal, Erdrick and Steve would indeed bring new players to the game. DQ is huge in Japan, and Erdrick was voted as the most popular MC in the same country. In the same vein than Joker "bringing" Sony fans and/or Persona fans, Erdrick could sparkle interest into the many DQ fans in Japan who don't play Smash Bros., or don't have a Switch since the last main game didn't appear on it yet. Steve from Minecraft... It has almost a hundred million players monthly. If you have 1% of those people who buy everything Minecraft related, that would still bring a million more. Which would leave us with two fanbases that Nintendo is interested in. Two that they believe do not own yet Smash but definitely will buy the game if their franchise appears in it... Which ones? Undertale maybe? Or Soul Calibur? Devil May Cry? So many choices.
Caleb Miller
Do you want the Gokufags to be given ammo? Besides, the Castlevania stuff is public domain
Jacob Jenkins
>People keep trying to find any roster pattern with any and all statements
You guys have to stop, it never fucking works
Adam Russell
>they're both killers >Kiryu killing anyone
IGN guy has a good point that you could make him work if Snake did, outside of the main plot the Yakuza games tend to be goofy as hell.
Don't forget Hines implied Bethesda and Nintendo talked about Smash
Lincoln Gutierrez
>New characters would bring new players No shit, what third party character WOULDN'T bring in players?
Caleb Diaz
Oh are you continuing? Alright. No. I don't want Goku or Spongebob in Smash, but if you're going to say Geralt can't get in because he's from a book that's just factually incorrect
Elijah Hall
In America, the only people that argue that Nintendo is for kids is edgy teenagers, NEETs that never developed past that phase, and the “bro”ish demographic. Most adults in my age range either don’t care about games or are otherwise positive towards Nintendo.
Doomguy would hit that audience though.
Luis Anderson
This. The game is not even on a nintendo console, it does not get more shilly than this.
Angel Johnson
I just want Hayabusa or Dante, man.
Owen Garcia
They probably weren't even following news about the game and didn't know about the ballot. If they saw their character at an award show or expo though, they might know.
Henry Sanders
Marty McFly from the Super Famicom Back to the Future game is fairly different from the movie version Should he be viable?
>factually incorrect When has Sakurai ever stated there was an exception
Blake Cooper
literally the only time Yea Forums has ever been right about Smash DLC is when it was explicitly, irrefutably datamined like with Ryu and Roy >was wrong about Mewtwo being the only DLC character for Smash 4 >was wrong about Cloud, thought either Terra, WoL, or Black Mage were guaranteed >didn't even consider Corrin because they were too busy seething about Fire Emblem as it was >was wrong about Bayonetta, too obscure or too sexy >was wrong about Joker, either because of Jack Frost fags or because of insiders saying it would be a Square Enix character Yea Forums is always wrong
Jaxon Ross
Come on man. You said something dumb online. No one knows it's you, you can back out now and pretend this never happened. Dracula is the exception, public domain or not he originated from a book. As different as he is from his novel counterpart it still makes the statement "a character cannot get into Smash" factually incorrect because there already is one.
Caleb Myers
Third-party character from franchises no longer going. I doubt Prince of Persia would bring a lot of players, for example.
Chase Bennett
Dont forget that Yea Forums are the main idiots that fell for the Grinch Leak
Jose Phillips
Would a Candy Crush character bring in more players than would make leave?
Samuel Butler
>People are STILL using the Relevancy argument with this statement
King K Rool
>nb4 people mangle the argument to change from Irrelevant character to irrelevant series
Daniel Taylor
if they're not hardcore then they're not gonna buy DLC for a game they don't even own or care about why does this entire argument hinge on this hypothetical fringe demographic that is hardcore "this way" but casual "this other way?"
Bentley Perry
K Rool is in due to the ballot, hopefully that means that this DLC will have at least 1 fan favorite character in addition to all the shill ones we're going to get
Landon Russell
People keep thinking there is a mentality of characters getting in. There fucking isn’t, they do whatever they want. Smash 4 already proved that: Mewtwo Lucas Roy Ryu Cloud Corrin Bayonets
There is no fucking theme here
Brandon Phillips
Best case scenario is that we get fan favorites that they can also shill at the same time. Leon comes with a RE 2 Remake port to the Switch, Banjo & Kazooie get a remaster of the series ported to Switch, etc.
Carson Phillips
Nintendo chose the DLC
Andrew Robinson
Smash 4 had no statement such as ops so cope
Cooper Hill
I meant more in the fact that they'd be both wrong on erdrick and on the fact that a SE rep would get in
Benjamin Jenkins
If Reimu gets in Smash I will confess to my high school crush. If revealed before Autumn, I'll take in /r9k/'s input
Jack Phillips
Not him, but it all boils down to public perception of a character. When Castlevania material is added, do they think of Bram Stoker’s Dracula? Hardly. The content is quite removed from it for gamers. The Witcher game series has pretty much come into its own, and if Geralt were added not only would the vast majority of people would think of the games, but his representation would be pulled from the games themselves, not as a new adaptation of the book character.
For this same reason, Goku is first and foremost associated with the anime, and everything about him culturally stems from that.
Also K. Rool clearly won the ballot, there is no "if". docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Th4pdsrzs-6X303PPpw5m-b4JHJ0_cGRKU15KYlTe1E/edit#gid=729442469 Now Banjo clearly scored high, no doubt about it, but so did Geno, Waluigi, Toad and Paper Mario, and despite all that, with three of them having no copyright issue, Sakurai still chose the Plant over them. They are probably not going to take the ballot into account for DLC. However if Banjo gets a new game anounced this E3, then he has a chance. I think everyone can agree that it's his final occasion for Ultimate.
Henry Hernandez
They gave Sakurai a list to pick from. We can only hope it included some options that fall into both categories
Owen Brooks
Pepsiman is in
Evan Perry
>mentioning Jontron good job outing yourself falseflagger
Fan favorites that can also “bring new players” exist
Jason White
Based
Luke Robinson
>It’s okay to complain that Corrin and Bayonetta was a shill pick
>NOOOOOO DONT TALK ABOUT RYU AND CLOUD THERE IS NO OPS
Do you know how fucking stupid you sound?
Blake Lewis
Neither is Banjo, dude. Just cafe it now and let the pain sink in and leave by E3, then you'll just feel numb.
Asher Jackson
They're gonna poach characters from recent critically and commercially successful 3rd party games (or series). The fact that they're not on or associated with a Nintendo console will ironically be all the more reason for Nintendo to ask for the character. The only difference is to squeeze out one last bit of Dragon Quest shilling
>persona 5 right out of the gate >minecraft >overwatch >the witcher 3 >tekken 7 >nier automata >assassin's creed >doom
I already promised a dick pick if Sakurai shows up in Reitasai.
Landon Fisher
*face, not cafe guess I'm dyslexic
Jackson Cook
I completely agree with you. I'm Dracula is so dissociated from the novel that user forgot he was even originally from a novel. Which is why I was refuting that Geralt (who as you mentioned is quite different from his counterpart in the novel), couldn't get in because he's from a book. His inclusion would actually be very jarring considering he'd be the first Smash character to never appear on a Nintendo console.
Benjamin Martin
>HURR THEY CANT USE THE BALLOT FOR DLC
says who
>HURR BANJO CAN GET IN WITH A NEW GAME
Imaginary rules that don’t exist
Adrian Miller
He's in, he fits all the criteria that we know so far for the fighter's pass >b-but he's from a porn gam- Sakurai says Smash is a celebration of ALL video game genres.
this is like "we want the CoD audience" all over again
fucking idiots. I don't even really care anymore at this point, as long as they stop adding characters with counters, this is so fucking annoying
Liam James
>picture of banjo holding erdrick It's a falseflag. We have already conceited a long time ago. Microsoft would sooner go for Battletoads than Banjo. Refusteves are just arguing with themselves and their own falseflags at this point. I aint waiting another 20 years for an ip microsoft has no interest in. And if they don't, then Nintendo doesn't either.
Kayden Wright
Phoenix will eventually get in and definitely have a counter evidence
Colton Lopez
At this point Geralt being added would be no more jarring for me than seeing Snake and Cloud. He and 2B have already been added to SC6 though, and Smash is the only real place for more cartoony characters to get representation, so I hope they move more in that direction as doubtful as it is
Nicholas Harris
steve will never be in smash.
Carter Jackson
By what logic? You don't really think they only just start working on the next character AFTER Joker is released, do you?
>Japs >putting a Korean character in their games Pick one and only one.
Oliver Baker
Damn. With the exception of mineycrafta and maybe doomguy, that selection looks fucking boring and awful. Hope they expect the new demographics to buy the new console, game and pass for them. I don't know who the fuck is desperate enough for that but hey, more power to them.
James Anderson
>people STILL don't realize the steveposters are banjo falseflaggers
You sure about that? Steve isn't that bad of a choice. Considering everything else is an anime looking boring piece of shit with no personality. Steve, being a fucking texture, has more personality than witcher man and slutty robot cunt.
Jaxson Gutierrez
No argument? Insults? Classic. Explain why they chose Piranha Plant over Geno, Waluigi, Paper Mario and Toad. There was no reason for Sakurai to add it before any of those fan favorites, he even mentioned Geno being one of his own preferences, and he couldn't add him. Explain why they chose Joker when no Persona character appears in poll, and it's instead a SMT character (Jack Frost) who scored less then 0.6%. I'm not even against Banjo but the reactions really make me feel like his fanbase is just delusional people who really think he is a huge gaming when, reality is, it had a good game, followed by a game that sold half of it and is considered worse, and then a third opus that everyone wants to forget. It's one thing to want a character, it's another to ignore reality and modify facts.
Lincoln Sanchez
Either Steve or something from Minecraft is in Someone from League of Legends to appeal to appeal to e-sports, my bet is Ryze Someone from Dark Souls to appeal to "hardcore gamerz" Phoenix Wright to appeal to more fujos, though Link probably already covers that spot
Carter King
No one believes you. Stop bringing up Banjo you obsessed child. Christ.
This is an example of a falseflagger and should be ignored. There is literally zero reason for Banjofags and Erdrickfags to be at odds with one another since one getting in does not mean the other will not. This is just a shitposter trying to start shit.
Austin Smith
Banjo kazooie will never get a new game And thats a good thing.
Benjamin Morris
>This is just a shitposter trying to start shit. you mean this entire thread
Eli Hughes
fair enough.
Jayden Wood
Why do people want heihachi? we already have ryu and ken.
Ethan Price
>Bayoen's a character slot Nothin personell, steveshitters
I can’t find it at the moment but I remember reading something of the sort, possibly in a Famitsu article? Either way, even that initial tweet about the DLC Sakurai stayed he had final say about whether a character would be feasible or not, which implies that they may have given him more than 5 options, or had backups for any that he was doubtful about. >This time the selection was made entirely by Nintendo. I decide if we can create a fighter based on their selection, then come up with the plan.
Andrew Russell
NO NO FIGHT, I TELL YOU BONJO > STEEVE FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU
Whenever Banjo is mentioned, shit starts. He is the new face of shitposting.
Kayden Brooks
i had at least played Persona before, but i literally didn't know who the fuck Erdrick was before muh leaks
Julian White
Anime swordsmen > cartoon cereal mascots There I said it
Ryder Butler
Dragon Quest is famous, it's the inspiration for all those Isekai mangas. People who never heard about it are rare (or don't play videogames)
Nathaniel Bennett
most boring fucking pass ever. can't wait for NONE of the gay ass picks discussed in this thread are chosen. Also, 2B is deconfirmed.
Adrian Adams
This except replace tekken 7 for dark souls no other fighting games are irrelevant, and delete nier automata as it was flavor of the month.
Connor Lee
They’re likely going to announce 2 characters at E3, given the timing and how many eyes will be watching it (a lot more than usual), with one of them being available soon after.
Also, if a DQ rep is coming, that’s a good time to do it because the west doesn’t care about DQ, and pairing it with another fighter would alleviate that
Hudson Myers
>anything from Resident Evil that isnt Nemesis Booooring. Shoot man with occasional round house kick. Next. Give us nemesis or a fuckin regenerator instead.
Parker Lee
Sakurai changes his mind everytime He's gonna make Steve work
Eli Hall
Obviously not, but if E3 only brings the second announcement, then it's clear it won't be on track. They'll either have to announce more than one at E3, announce and drop the character at E3, or have the last 3 come out in quick succession.
Alexander Bailey
Nemesis is the perfect fit
fuck, you can practically 1:1 adapt the MvC moveset
Nathaniel Cruz
>Sora 2B Main demographic already in smash just admit it will be erdrick >Monster Hunter Rathalosed >Indie characters Doubt it but possible
Jeremiah Reyes
>AHEM
>JANNIES ARE BARNACLE HEADS DAIAHAHAHA
Jaxon Parker
He didn't about Heihachi, and he won't about Steve (who I didn't speak about) cope. Someone like Heihachi is just a fuckin normal human, and he didn't feel like putting the work to make him playable. Steve is literally like 4 blocks. He'll never be in Smash.
Chase Ortiz
Yeah, 2 at E3 is a big possibility. Bookending the Direct with them would be the best way to drum up hype.
Jeremiah Anderson
This absolutely. I think everyone deep down expects a Dragon Quest character. If not Erdrick then Luminary. If not Luminary then Slime. It's really obvious. At least it isn't another fire emblem character.
Jonathan Wood
Steve would make for a better AT. That alone is against his chances.
Ryder Sanders
Joker is from shovelware trash. The worst choice possible.
Alexander Hernandez
And what makes you think they wouldn't announce and drop at E3 like they literally did in Smash 4's DLC season?
they're not gonna take a gamble on revealing a character who might not get people hyped at the biggest hype show of the year they're gonna pick someone who will make headlines the second they appear on screen

Slime would be my pick, as I think it’s much more iconic (even my wife who only plays Mario recognizes the slime as being from “some Japanese game”), but given Smash’s track record for DLC fighters my hopes aren’t high.
I would like to see a Toriyama-designed character in smash though so there’s that. Chrono would be cool but never ever
Luis Gonzalez
>Palutena and Mii fighters in the actual e3 direct for smash 4 >Roy and Ryu not even announced at e3 announced a few days before. Wrong

>show Palutena and Miis to the masses at E3 >show FUCKING PAC-MAN behind closed doors at that same E3 I don't know, user.
but what they're saying is if they show Slime or whoever at the beginning of the presentation, and then let's say please god don't let this happen Steve at the end of the direct that would make people get hyped more than if it were just one or the other

I don't care what you faggots think. Nintendo has been pushing for the otaku market with the Switch ever since Snoy decided to go the progressive route. You see this Nintendo's direction wity Waifu Emblem, their lax regulations on censoring, and allowing for games like Strip Mahjong to be released on Switch. What better character to draw in the otaku market than one from one of the oldest, iconic, and consistently popular doujin franchises? Like it or not, Touhou has had a strong presence in Comiket for 2 decade, and continuesnto do so to this day. It's also one of the few big names of Comiket that came from a video game franchise that's strongly rooted in gameplay. Out of her competitors, Reimu would simply be the best fit for a video game crossover. Reimu's DLC would sell like hotcakes, not to mention her amiibo in particular will attract every 2hu figurine enthusiast in Japan.
I'd imagine that negotiations would be simple and cheap for Nintendo, since the franchise is only owned by a single person, unlike corporate owned characters, who would otherwise demand enormous amounts of money in royalties just to use them. I trust that Nintendo isn't dumb enough to miss this opportunity.
>Mewtwo's the only DLC character >No Cloud, not on a Nintendo console. It'll be Chocobo if anything >Why Joker? It's obviously gonna be Jack Frost, he's the mascot >Sakurai said no fighting game characters >He said no guns, too >Bayonetta too revealing, M-rated, no way she'd be added >Ridley's too big, K Rool's irrelevant >Isabelle is a side character who hates confrontation >all Little Mac does is punch!
Ever thought that maybe you're wasting your fucking time?
Simon might genuinely be the only time you were correct about anything
Dragon Quest character will be shown and made available immediately, and next character also gets revealed for later release and it'll be Resident Evil. Sounds good to me.
I would like to see hakurei in the game too but get a grip you dork.
Andrew Lee
>Why Joker? It's obviously gonna be Jack Frost, he's the mascot Anyone who thought this was a fool and a fanboy. Jack Frost’s visibility as Atlus’ mascot is so negligible, and Persona has quickly outpaced SMT
Oliver Cox
even disregarding leaks, people felt he was a natural conclusion after the original "classic game" trio of pac, mega man and sonic. That will be their one single prediction victory, since everyone on Earth new Inkling was inevitable
Jason Morris
I agree but remember that there are other indies they could go for too. When it comes to raw potential, she is definitively up there, but even them there is still a lot of competition and she could easily not make it.
Whatever happens there is always the next game, it's not like she is a fotm who will disappear in a few years.

I can bring it lower than 2015. >B-B-B-But no DQ fan wanted Erdrick! All Smash threads on Dragon Den have always been Slime or Erdrick. The fake fans are the ones using the only DQ character they know to bash the pick that would make the actual fans happy.
I hope he uses more than just Astora straight sword, crest shield, and miracles. Every attack should be a different weapon from Dark Souls, like the moonlight greatsword. His parry should be assigned to the grab button, with grabs working normally but successfully grabbing during an attack results in a powerful riposte that can KO. Grabbing from behind also allows for a backstab with effects similar to ridley’s tail stab. >up b: anor londo imp flight >down b: wrath of the gods (deflects projectiles, area of effect weakens with frequent use) >side b: sunlight spear (chargable) >neutral b: dragonslayer greatbow (slowly angles upward at full draw, momentum from a single arrow can carry and pin fighters to the wall/floor, like Corrins side b turned into a projectile)
>He believes Frank O’ Conner after he lied about Halo 5 >He thinks you need to have a game on Nintendo consoles to get in even after Sakurai said you didn’t.
After seeing jokers moveset I wouldn't be too optimistic. Side B will probably be lightning spear, up b some generic marth up b or a teleport lol, down b maybe magic enchantment and neutral b would be estus healing.
Love these picks. I’d prefer an old school school FF character who can change jobs midfight like Pokémon Trainer, with one of those jobs being black mage. Nobody wants to play as Buttz though.
I played Halo 1 & 2 at a friend's house back in the day. I do want Halo on the Switch and I think Captain King would fit in Smash Bros just fine. It would be absolutely bonkers, but I also know when to fold 'em. Chief isn't happening in this wave.

I don't think this should be taken as full gospel for the entire DLC for a couple reasons. >the DLC roster was already finalized almost half a year before this >the Smash DLC wasn't at all mentioned in the article; the comparison of Smash to Pokémon Let's GO (suspiciously omitted from the OP, check pic related for the full paragraph) seemed to allude to more about the core game's marketing and branding >Nintendo's investors are notoriously gaming-illiterate dipshits and they have to constantly be reassured that Nintendo is "trying" to branch out to outsider demographics, because referring to outsider audiences is the only language game investors are capable of grasping Now, I'm not at all doubting that this philosophy will play a role in the motivation for some of the DLC picks (Joker in particular reeks of a misguided attempt at this). I just don't think they'll all be as corporate focused as a lot of people are fearing.
Tifa would be based, not sure how her moveset would work though
Josiah King
NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR SHITTY FANPOLLS
Kayden White
so basically this shit is going to suck wake me up if we get more indie DLC a la plant and then we'll talk seriously, how does nintendo not expect backlash over literally telling the fans to fuck themselves? they need to cater to multiple audiences including their core, not just shills

Jackson Morales
People seem to be rationalizing how this will work in DQ's favor, but as a fan of the series I see this as a huge mark against it getting in considering it's only popular in one part of the world and Nintendo executives are more likely to go with characters with broader appeal.
Asher Hernandez
>Popular/well known franchises with a poor nintendo history who's parent company just recently or will soon put an unexpected or oddball release/releases on the switch. >Thats the criteria. Dragon Quest is literally the opposite of that, born on Nintendo and all mainline games and literally 90%+ of the spin-offs are on Nintendo.
Josiah Bell
I wish.
Brayden Moore
As a DQ fan I'd rather have a Slime or a party member like Ragnar or Jessica but honestly I'd take Erdrick over a non DQ character any day of the week
Jeremiah Cook
Compromise and make the estus flask a recovery item like fairy bottle that can be thrown, held, and used up to three times. The greatbow would represent the Anor Londo archers moment well and make fighting ChoUnd less forgiving for zoners. Up B could also be a leap followed by a plunging attack.
Landon Long
One part of the world which happens to be where this game is made. And popular to the point the games outsell series with 'broader' appeal like Persona. Japan has been calling Smash too gaijin and DQ is the perfect way to appease them, make cash and continue Nintendo's policy of trying to make DQ work in the west.

GOOD MOOOOOOOORNING Yea Forums! Just wanted to remind you that we’re another day closer to Steve (yes, THE Steve from Minecraft) getting confirmed in Smash Ultimate! Make sure to save your tears for the upcoming Fighter Pass when Steve walks into the spotlight!
>H-HAH! VIRGINBEN SAID THE TOPDOWN WASN’T LINK’S AWAKENING! HE WAS FINALLY WRONG! STEVE ISN’T IN SMASH!!!!! “No!”
Yikes! That’s a large assumption. How can one “questionable” prediction instantly invalidate a history of success? Unlike your “Grinch leak” Banjocucks, Steve has a lot more distribution among other leakers. Ever heard of Hitagi, 7chan, and 5channel? And while you’re busy obsessing over Vergeben, care to explain how the topdown remake Vergeben predicted was exactly the title he said wouldn’t be featured? Seems a bit suspicious if you ask me, but feel free to continue your denial. Your tears of disappointment will be all the more sweeter!
>b-but Banjo has a good history with Nintendo! He’s gotta be in! “No!”
Sorry Banjo fags, but the Microsoft rep is taken by yours truly! Why would Nintendo choose a dead character over the marketing potential of the highest grossing game of the 21st century? The DLC characters have also been confirmed to be “surprising” according to the developers, so I’m afraid your years of crying for Banjo are going to be subverted once again with the reveal of our favorite underdog! But feel free to continue your denial. Your tears of disappointment will be all the more sweeter!
GOOD MOOOOOOOORNING Yea Forums! Just wanted to remind you that we’re another day closer to Banjo (yes, THE Banjo from Banjo-Kazooie) getting confirmed in Smash Ultimate! Make sure to save your tears for the upcoming Fighter Pass when Banjo & Kazooie walks into the spotlight!
>b-but Microsoft has a good relationship with Nintendo rn! He’s gotta be in! “No!”
Sorry Stevefags, but the Microsoft rep is taken by yours truly!, Just because Nintendo & Microsoft are making Minecraft stuff on Nintendo's consoles & handheld's doesn't mean Steve is in, & Why would Nintendo choose a terribly animated character over a character that has been requested ever since Melee & Phil Spencer acknowledged Banjo & Kazooie being in Smash instead of Steve? Sakurai went way out of his way to talk up Persona 5 before Joker's reveal, guess what other game he's talked up? That's right it's Banjo & Kazooie back then. Don't forget that the Minecraft dev team De-confirmed that blockhead, also, the Smash Ultimate Joker showcase that came out on April, it was a green witch, hinting Banjobros & Kazooiebros are coming in Ultimate. The DLC characters have also been confirmed to be “surprising” according to the developers, so I’m afraid your years of crying for Steve are going to be subverted just like Erdrickfags, Dongorongfagget, BillyBo10k, & Virginbitch with the reveal of our favorite underdog! But feel free to continue your denial. Your tears of disappointment will be all the more sweeter & bitter!
Banjo Kazooie newcomer with Steve and Master Chief Mii outfits would fill that just fine both in giving fans what they want and tickling the XBox fans. No idea why you even have 2B on there though. Doomguy would be great.
Sylvania, Arthus, Illidan or Thrall would all be cool as shit. Kerrigan used to be Blizz's most well known character but now a days its probably Tracer

Nintendo literally doesn't care about Banjo > Best Nintendo games chosen by Nintendo of America themselves > 17. Metroid Prime (GameCube) > 16. Super Mario Bros. (NES) > 15. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GameCube) > 8. Super Metroid (SNES) > 7. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) > 6. Mega Man 2 (NES) > 5. Super Mario World (SNES) > 4. Final Fantasy VI (SNES) > 3. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) > 2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) > 1. You realize that doujinshi is it's entirely own market and subculture in Japan? Games like Minecraft and Undertale are popular in the general gaming sphere, but neither have the reach into the otaku market that Touhou has. These are different niches that Steve and Reimu attract, so they can both be characters.
Jayden Brooks

I wouldn't be surprised if Scorpion/Subzero was one of the characters. Sure no blood or gore but you could still be brutal. If Scorpion, flaming skull attack that does big damage and a dot if they survive. If Sub freeze the opponent and uppercut. Hell Joker already has a grapple hook to base GET OVER HERE on.
Eli Taylor
First of all, Minecraft hasn't been indie in years. Second, Undertale is a contender because it is still a novelty in Japan and, unlike 2hu, it has a safe global appeal. Sure, Reimu would bring in a lot of Japs, but there is no guarantee that she would sell as much as an Undertale character in the long run. 2hu has history but Undertale is a safe pick, both are possible if there is ever an indie rep.
On the bright side, Shovel Knight got trophied even though it had the same upsides Undertale has, so maybe 2hu being older and ongoing will set it apart from the franchises that struck gold recently and historic shit like Cave Story.
Dylan Wood
MK doesn't come out in Japan

Seemed like he could be talking about franchises like Metroid that are beloved but don't sell like crazy like Mario does. A big highly requested space dragon making it on the roster may make people take a look at the games. Same logic they use with FE only they really fucking push FE hard.

Not him, but the souls series reimagined the whole dungeon crawler genre. There's a reason why some people talk about "souls-like", it's literally the "doom-like" of our time. It's a bit too fresh for now, but it will be considered as impactful as a Doom or FF6 in a few years.

Okay so who is gonna make the new Banjo game then? Playtonic? The team that did Hat in Time?
Yeah I don't think so.

Smash’s main selling point for me is playing as a bunch of non-fighting game characters in a debatably fighting game. I don’t get the hype for Heihachi and Terry for this reason. I think Ryu scratched all those itches already.

I can't see Nintendo putting Crash in Smash, outside of Crash team racing (which I can't really judge) the crash series was always underwhelming in term of pure platformers (something Nintendo birthed). Yes they could have a dragalia lost character, but they know it will never bring as much money as FE heroes did/does. They've already included Minaba's artworks as spirits, I'm pretty sure they have some plans with Grandblue considering how popular it is.

I genuinely feel like a Souls rep is more likely than Tekken or SC, if only because Ryu and Ken already have the "plays like a fighting game character" gimmick Heihachi would have, and because SC is sort of limited in terms of character moveset options. A Souls rep could have a poise/hyper armor gimmick incorporated alongside a stamina meter or something along those lines, whereas SC would just be another sword fighter. You could also do a lot more with Souls' characters and bosses for spirits than you'd be able to do with the others
It's probably terrible game design for a game like Smash, but imagine >the chosen undead >dies >leaves his souls behind >can be retrieved by the player on a second stock for a heal Wouldn't work on single stock matches or sudden deaths, but yeah.
>sora They already got the sony/nintendo demographic with snake and joker. What demographic would sora get ahold of? The autistic one? Even that is covered by sonic and the entire game itself.

Not that guy but I'm not against the idea of Doomguy, though I also don't know why he's constantly brought up when Doom hasn't been a big deal for years now. Even the new Doom game went kinda under the radar
The Rabids debuted in a Rayman game, user. And the fact that Ubisoft didn't even include a cameo of the guy says something to me at least
Daniel Adams
A Souls character wouldn't be as hard to implement as Doom or RE but otherwise you're right. If they do use a new M-rated rep, especially from the west, Dovahkiin has a great shot.
Cooper Wood
I could see a chosen undead as there are enough moves to make a character, but it's the up+B recovery move that would be farfetched. a proper parry move with the signature sound, a magic ray, the signature mid roll, all of this would work pretty well, but aerial moves would be pure fanfiction though.
Luke Morales

I like Goomba guess it should be next character in Smash.
Lincoln Barnes
3. Goemon. I think he's only had a trophy once in Melee. He has no sticker he's not an assistrophy and he was wildly popular in Japan. People will say he's "too japanese" but Sakurai satesfied western fans by inserting King K Rool which the Japs really didn't care about. I think its time they got a character that they can enjoy too. He's got a pipe as a weapon he throws coins as a projectile and for his Final Smash he can jump into his Impact Mech and shoot a laser beam. He's almost too perfect.
Yeah, it does. Ubisoft has been sleeping on Rayman since 2015. Im willing to speculate that he has SOMETHING coming this E3. Not Smash or anything like that, but something.
Teleports and warps would be fine, hell in DS3's DLC one of the bosses warps using something similar to the summon sign the player has
Brandon Garcia

>Crash was one of the first early platformers, innovated the way PlayStation games were developed, and stood up to the likes of Mario and Sonic during the time >Not in “Notable Genre Innovator” but Jack Frost is Oh ok
Doujinshi is a pretty big market over at Japan that has little overlap with Nintendo's regular demographic. I'm honestly expecting an otaku-pandering rep, whether it be Saber, Reimu, Katalina or Miku.
DOOM didn't invent its genre either, it was actually Wolfenstein. It popularized it, the same way Minecraft popularized the sandbox genre and still has millions of players each month.

There was nothing third party in Melee. And plenty of Japanese fans like the DK Country trilogy + 64, even if K. Rool is *more* aimed at the west.
Gavin Carter
if you are going to claim what the first FPS was at least get it correct
Tyler Phillips
WHY is a cameo of him really necessary in the Mario + Rabbids game? To have him be a guest on a game that's primarily focused on Rabbids feels like even more of a kick in the nads for Rayman than any sort of bad treatment he may have gotten in the past.
I say let him really shine in a title of his own, not water him down with mere cameos while no future titles are to be seen, especially on a game where the Rabbids shine best alongside Mario, something even Rayman didn't get and would only have a match if he were to blast Rabbids right next to Mario, which might probably never happen.
Kevin Lopez
