What is your experience with Linux compared to Windows 10?

pc runs faster, better software, more control, less games.

I'd just like to interject for a moment.

completely useless regarding gaming and normal homeuse
GOAT tier for servers and administration

Linux is a great OS, but as a desktop it sucks dicks no matter what Linux trannies say.
We can only hope it gets a bit of proper attention in that department with that shit Valve released recently but I wouldn't hold my breath, been doing so for decades now.

I'm a huge fan of Linux for a bunch of small reasons, but I use Windows 10 because all Linuxfags will tell you that WINE and Steam are enough Linux games, but WINE is fucky as shit and doesn't work more often than it works, and the linux library of games isn't as big as they'd like you to think.

Couldn't get the right drivers for my Graphics card so it is severely underpowered in linux. As much as I like Linux, it isn't made for games.

>better software
LOL!

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't used Linux Mint in about 5 years. I heard that the Windows games in Steam were no different on Linux Mint.

If you use Linux you’re a coward and support Trump.

It's okay, worth duel booting non Yea Forumsirgins can afford another 40$ and have Linux and Windows 10, the day Linux becomes better for gaming will be the day I use it primarily but I think I'll always be using windows for Microsoft Office

I use gentoo

It's fine for a secondary PC that isn't your main driver. For example, I have a HTPC in my living room that is running Arch Linux. Proton is good enough where a bunch of the games I play are supported, and the ones that aren't I can use in-home streaming for.

Give it 5 or 10 more years. Microsoft will do something retarded again, eventually

Games crash a lot more on Linux. I just don't get the point. Use dual boot if you want to play games.

I thought Linux was Socialist. Supporters of Bernie and AOC use Linux.

I hope my Representative Queen AOC uses linux

Linux users are highly libertarian. The hole point of linux is to not be censored and freedoms. Linux is used by a shitload of trannies and SJW as well. (Thats why BSD is better)

She is verrrry cute!

>Trying to get current driver's for gpus on Linux
This, my friends, is why I know hell is a real place and we are in it

Why is nvidia such a pain in the ass in regards to linux? Why can't they just be normal?

why is it so hard, just download the ones Nvidia puts out what the advantage of the open source ones when most games are programmed for the closed source Nvidia ones? If you have an amd card then I don't know

>Linux is a great OS, but as a desktop it sucks dicks no matter what Linux trannies say.
this.

>nothing works
>can't install graphics drivers because manufacturer instructions are out of date
>have to use shit browsers instead of chrome
>have 3% of my game library available
>nothing works

no thank you

Surprisingly AMD's OpenGL linux drivers are stable and better than on Windows.

>Saying the same thing twice doesn't make it true if you put effort in
>Go to the website and download their new drivers
>Download waterfox or ungoogled cromium
>Doesn't enable proton which makes a better chunk of games playable on linux from overwatch to gta 5
50% of all games run on linux now with more being added down the line.
Just check what games you want to run first:

Linux is a meme.
Despite what some YTB and other says, and despite how interested I am in the OS (some distros), it's bad at doing what 90% of the population does:
- Desktop
- Gaming
And sadly, unlike Apple, they don't have the mindshare to evn have decent numbers.
Stadia might change that since most games will be on Vulkan running Linux but I don't hope for too much.
Windows sells not because it's the best overall, but because it does what we want and need mostly.

I installed Manjaro and everything just worked. Steam was even preinstalled. If you want Chrome download it lmao.

No thank you wage slave I like adbock

>pc runs faster, better software
is this really what /g/tards believe?

> Tfw using Edge and now it'll be just another Chrome shit
It's not fair.

PC is indeed snappier.
If you say otherwise you're retarded and I'm using Win10 as the main OS with Nvme SSD.
And Linux is 15- 40 % faster on some tasks without the crashes

Why dont game devs just start packing games in containers that dont need to be adapted to Linux fuckery?

>Linux is 15- 40 % faster on some tasks without the crashes
You have to be retarded to have Windows 10 crash on you or run worse than Linux.

linux doesn't even have working wifi drivers half the time, you have to connect to ethernet and download them
nice "software"

It all depends on the tasks.
I'm also talking about software crashes, not Windows 10 crashes.
Windows 10 despite all the shit it gets is imo the best Windows OS released.
Linux is less bloated, more customizable and more stable.
Will I switch to Linux ? No, because some programs I used aren't supported and also the fact it's shit at gaming and desktop like said above.
Is it better than Windows on those things I stated before ? Yes. It's just not worth all the other drawbacks

This is what happens when you let trannies be in charge of the code for your OS.

if u use anything other than windows just kys

No point of having linux if you're a dev since windows store is getting a terminal this year

>keep yourself safe
thanks

>Linux userbase
>10% actual devs
>90% who just want to hacker type on a terminal with UbuntuMono

Wine / Proton aren't perfect and some native ports of games are also shitty or don't run at all, so it's worse for gaming. Had some driver issues when I got an RX480 on launch, but no problems since then. OS itself is lighter and updates are much less of a pain than on windows.

but user, most people ARE retarded

Aka unfair competition

It's getting better, I've switched fully to Linux on my desktop and aside from some mild jank and a few DRM/anticheat heavy games not working it's pretty great.

Naturally Linux still has it's weak points, but I'm quite positive that it'll grow among gamers and enthusiasts over the next few years. Optimistic projection - 5-10% of steam uses will be using Linux in a couple of years.

It's better in some aspects but shit or nearly non-existent in others.
Gaming experience is much worse, obviously.

>What is your experience with Linux
network motherboard drivers didn't exist, wireless drivers didn't exist, couldn't connect to the internet. Fucking around in a terminal emulator for way longer than I'd want to just for what I was trying to get working not working, not being able to play many games, resorting to emulators but only really simple ones that didn't have a hefty hardware footprint because gpu drivers didn't provide the acceleration I got under windows. Eventually decided I prefer real hardware over emulation and linux suddenly got even less games.

> Windows 10
annoys me with its updates, getting stuck on updates until hard rebooting and being a little slow once in a while. Prefer 7.

If you want to play every game just use GPU passthrough.

it's difficult for someone coming from Windows because they don't know you're not-supposed to download the binary from nvidia's website, and the ones who do might have trouble enabling non-free repos in their distros package manager

i mean, at the end of the day it's just editing a line in a config file, but literally any issue that could crop up with someones first experience with something theyre not used to will leave a bad taste, even if that issue is easily fixable.
