I like shaderpacks without the shitty texturepacks, but shaderpacks don't work with mods so they're basically useless.

PBR textures and raytracing can only carry a game if the models are built around it. In minecraft, it looks wrong, especially on places like the gate and where the cobblestone turns into red carpet.
I'd rather just stick to the vanilla texture pack.

Forge is too powerful now, you can just install all the mods yourself with little to no effort. Then you can get some shaders working with your favourite mods.

I play one of the FTB kitchensink modpacks with some friends, so we just use the launcher for that. Trying to slap a shader on it basically hardcrashed the game.

It's funny, because I actually managed to add Optifine to it without any issue. It wasn't until I tried adding a shader and selecting it that the game froze up and jacked CPU usage up to 98%.

Most shaders are fucking stupid anyways because they fuck with how you perceive lighting in the game. You need to know exactly how much each block is lit so you know if shit can spawn there or not, but Shaders tend to let light be cast on a block that's not technically lit.

I don't give a fuck about the lighting. Give me small enough blocks to work with that I can actually have some fucking detail. I'm sick of this 'blocks as big as your character' meme in these games. Either give me a tileset small enough to actually sculpt something, or put some fucking decorative items in.
