It's a good game, and you can get it for a couple of bucks on the PS3/Vita/PSP, or get it and another game on the PS4 under Requiem.
How cheap do you need to be in order to try and get redpilled on a game that costs like 3 bucks?

Very good music, Alucard is a cool character, it started the trend of rpg'esque platformers with xp and items, and the gameplay is stiffl relevant.

That's the stuff that ruined Castlevania.
Classicvania is more enjoyable by far.
Circle of the Moon has a good balance just because you have a whip and the cards but Rondo is the last of the ideal games.

It's not actually that good. The level design is the big issue, it kinda sucks, which is a really bad thing for a metroidvania.
that said it is a classic, it's a lot of fun to explore, the graphics and music are both 10/10 and there's a lot of longevity and replayability

Super Metroid is definitely better than SotN. Super Mario World is a completely different genre though.

I liked it a lot when I first played it, but less when I replayed it after having played both more classicvania and more metroid.

This. I feel like lots of people who rank it highly haven't played it, at least bot for a couple decades. I prefer some classicvania and the DS games over SOTN.

You got a large ass game with a ton of vampire abilities and magic and weapons. Leveling up you find can do some combos that gives you broken magic spells.
