Redpill me on emulators, Yea Forums.
I want a dedicated emulation machine to leave connected to my 55 incher and play while my vidya/work computer is rendering important shit.
>What kind of NASA CPU do I need to emulate everything from Nintendo up to the Wii and maybe PS2 in 4K at 60 fugs ber segond?
>How stable is everything I just mentioned in current year? Resolution and fps is meaningless if I'm looking at a graphical glitchfest
>Is a GPU needed as well? Since everything related to emulation is mostly CPU-centered can I get away with something shitty like a 2GB GT1030 just so it doesn't shit itself in the future thanks to the iGPU?
I just want to take advantage of my TV at its native resolution since I don't really watch movies.

if you're gonna make a dedicated emulation machine it needs to be connected to an actual CRT, anything else is just half-assing it and at that point you might as well not even bother.

Might as well do that, but I gotta admit the idea of UHD Mario Sunshine is very attractive.

This is purist thinking. Older consoles make sense, and I still have them (and my old crts), but I also think that some of the GCN games look fantastic on PC.

For that feel, definitely CRT, but sometimes that crystal clear graphics and effects are noice.

Emulation on N64 up, minus Gamecube/Wii thanks to their simple architecture, is spotty at best. PS2 can work but nobody seems to maintain PCSX2 much anymore.

Otherwise, just buy a raspberry pi. Does everything PS1 and down. N64 is a complete mess no matter how powerful your machine.

I'm mostly interested in 4K Gamecube, but I'd love to play Jak&Daxter/II/3 and Sly Cooper in HD as well.

>N64 is a complete mess no matter how powerful your machine
Why does everyone keep saying this? The first time I played Ocarina of Time I emulated it on a shitty Centrino Duo 1gb Ram laptop and everything was smooth as fuck.

A ryzen 5 2400g is enough for most emuation at 1080p without a gpu. A 1060 is enough for 4k with dips below 60. A 1070 is perfect for everything.

So you DO need a GPU?

You CRT fags crack me up.

If you wanna do 4k then yeah.

>N64 is a complete mess no matter how powerful your machine.
I've emulated OoT, Mario, Shadowgate 64 and Perfect Dark on my shitty $120 phone without any trouble, so what the hell are you saying?
Smash and Mario Kart did lag, though.

A few of the essential N64 titles run great but most others are horribly janky.

I'm not sure why this is the case, but I can play modern console games on a cheapo 50+inch tv just fine, but as soon as I try playing emulated classics on a cheap tv then the display lag becomes clear as day to me and the game becomes utterly unplayable.

t. played through MGSV on a big screen, but when I tried playing MGS1 on PS3 on the same tv I noticed that the display lag was so bad that I'd release moving and Snake would stop moving after a noticeable delay on screen.

stop using dynarec and get an LLE video plugin if that's happening

PS1 games on PS3 are laggy. It's not your TV's fault.

I've got an old clunker I5 6400 and geforce 730, and I can run everything up to Ps2 and gamecube with no problems. Consider that your minimum if you want to emulate. As for emulators, these are my choices:

>SNes9x
>epsxe
>PSXC2
>dolphin

Takes care of 99% of my needs. I'm sure you can replace epsxe since people say it's complete garbo compared to other emulators. It's on you if you want to learn a more complex one, like retroarch.

ps3 emulation needs like an i7 8700k

>>What kind of NASA CPU do I need to emulate everything from Nintendo up to the Wii and maybe PS2 in 4K at 60 fugs ber segond?
i5 or ryzen 5 is enough
>>How stable is everything I just mentioned in current year? Resolution and fps is meaningless if I'm looking at a graphical glitchfest
The latest emulators like RPCS3 is still unstable, but stuff like Dolphin is almost perfect
>>Is a GPU needed as well? Since everything related to emulation is mostly CPU-centered can I get away with something shitty like a 2GB GT1030 just so it doesn't shit itself in the future thanks to the iGPU?
Absolutely, especially for everything after 5th gen

epsxe is outdated. Use mednafen or PCSX-R-PGXP instead

nah, I plugged my PS3 into my crt tv with component cables and it was fine.

>OoT, Mario
Congratulations. You emulated the few games that don’t have many problems because the emu devs only care about first party Nintendo. Now try Diddy Kong Racing where New Game+ doesn’t work, or Snowboard Kids with its massive slowdown, or Iggy’s Reckin Balls where you can’t get past like the second level before everything locks up. Everyone who makes N64 emulators only gives a shit about the games that Nintendo has already released themselves multiple times.

I'll redpill you on people who say redpill: literally every single one of them is an angry virgin

this is true but why do you ignore the fact that there are more basement dwelling virgins in the left than in the edgy frogtwitter crowd? literally every single tranny is a social outcast virgin

N64 runs fine, Perfect Dark 64 and Zelda Oot,MM run perfectly. Goldeneye you're missing the sky texture, big deal. Starfox and Mario run fine.

You dont have the Star wars games, but Rogue Squadron and Shadows are on the PC already. What is else there?

I'd say calling N64 emulation a complete mess is an overstatement, though.
>emu devs only care about 1st party games
Of course, remember that once they manage to run their favorite games they're only doing it for the Patreon dosh.
And I don't wanna be that faggot, but I can't really count more than 20 worthwhile N64 games, unlike the GBA or the GC where I can at least think of 50 games for each.
But don't make me do it, I should be working.

Do it.

No way nerd, I'm pretty sure someone here already has an image that lists some worthwhile games, at least for the GC.
