break your tenpai
So this is the power the chinks have been keeping from me.
What is the pixiv tag for this?
Can you hear them yet, Yea Forums?
Ranked up to expert late night. Couldnt get much sleep. Have to go to work to work on crunch time software devving. Only think about getting back to playing some more mahdong. Should i quit and play as a pro
totally can
let's be real, people calling them "Experts" and playing on Silver south, then Riichi after I riichi THIS hand without ever throwing Sou should remove themselves from the game
Quit and play as a pro-neet, maybe
what hands should I pon and chiiiiiii for?
Remember to only play ranked from 11 am EST to 4 pm EST, those are peak western hours and games will be easier. Later or early than that and chinks will destroy you if you're a newbie.
>tfw the next match I fuck up hard and go 9000 into negative
Bros...
all of them
rule of thumb is only call if you can complete the hand calling twice max, anything else is either too obvious or too risky.
Wind tiles or honors are the one exception, one call for them won't hurt anything but your score, then again the chances of drawing them yourself are small enough to justify it.
anything else, you better wait for good waits or just bail, otherwise you sit there tanki and everybody more or less knows 5-10 tiles which are NOT it.

Why the fuck would he discard the 3pin instead of chicken?
Am I missing something here?
Pon if you either have a yakuhai for a guaranteed yaku or you're otherwise lining up for a toi toi or something
Chii if you're depending on nabbing some tile and it's seeming less and less likely you're gonna draw it yourself
Point is: only do it when you're sure of what you're aiming for
Never just randomly call on shit

Funny enough, I go for big dick bronson hands, when drunk.
Sober and hopped up on sweet coffee not so much.
I really wanted the 5s wait. Sanshoku iipeikou is aesthetic.
Is there a better pastebin or guide that teaches how to play? I really don't understand doras, akadoras, uradoras, tsumos, rons and everything else. I want to know why I'm winning/losing.
This shit makes me not want to play this anymore.

Shiny tiles (determined by the dora indicator at the top left of your screen) that are worth 1han each
>akadora
3 specially marked red 5 tiles (one of each suit) that are always dora, if the indicator is a 4 of their respective suit they are worth 2 han
>uradora
tiles underneath the dora indicator(s) that are flipped when a player wins after declaring riichi, they become new dora indicators for determining the value of a hand
>tsumo
winning by drawing your winning tile yourself
>ron
winning by calling on another player's discard

it's not the absolute basics but it's very good once you get them down
ok 83884
They motherfuckers are still playing. Why isn't there a concede button.
Dora: The tile indicated by the dora indicator (top left). The dora is one more in sequence from the indicator (1 in the case of 9, clockwise in the case of winds, and GRWG for dragons). Each dora in your hand is worth 1 han. An extra dora indicator is flipped when kan is called. You can easily tell dora in this client because they glisten.
Akadora: A 5 tile that's all red. There is 1 in every suit (3 in all). Worth 1 han.
Uradora: An extra dora indicator is flipped if you win by riichi and you get the extra dora if you happen to have any in your hand. Purely luck based.
Tsumo: Win by drawing your own winning tile. Points are taken from all other players
Ron: Win by having an opponent discard your winning tile. Points are taken from the player that dealt in.
Spread them checks I'm on a 5 game Yea Forumsin streak.

how about you stop chasing minimum value fast hands, only time that's shit's useful is if you're not dealer and in the lead.
Yeah, that was my bad I think. You got so far ahead I felt the only way to make a comeback was by chasing Yakuman

It's three turns in, he probably wanted to go for a single suit hand.
my yaku chart says riichi and double riichi are both 1 han, is that really the case?

it's 2 han, i assume they're counting them as separate yakus and adding them together
Is there some extensive wiki on how the cosmetics/currencies systems work, which is more informative than the general description on Arcturus? There are several questions I have, perhaps you can help me:
1. Am I understanding it correctly that the only way to get blue rings currency is by purchasing directly? The 'lucrative' one-time options for all purchase tiers also don't seem to recharge, as I understand it.
2. The wishing 'tickets' you can buy with dust - the limited stock will never restock, right? In other words, besides those 3 chances, you can't really get characters without paying money?
3. Am I right to assume that if you play a lot, there's no point giving the green-blue gifts to characters, and it's instead better to turn them to dust and fish for the purple gifts required to unlock the special model?
4. I've seen 'Bond gift' bar on some stream - apparently it appears after you've already hit Bond 5, but I didn't see what the streamer got from this gift. Does it contain spheres specific to your character's special model requirements? Or maybe it can even contain the purples required for it, too?
Double riichi is 2 han in all cases, your yaku sheet just treats it as 1+1=2 rather than as a separate thing worth 2 han on its own.
1 more
Just a stupid way of counting since riichi = 1han + double riichi = 1 han

gee gee
I really need to try and get more closed hand-plays. I only was getting more wins when ponning and feel like that was too cheap.
hi me
bruv you have these tools to restrain yourself.
just click C and enjoy sophisticated play
It's normal tho
the nyagger was just lucky my hands in the first round were shit, and we put her in her place come 2nd round didn't we
I want to kiss Meido on the lips.
need to start using those... i always reactively chii/pon even though my hand has some type of set with terminal(s) in it then i have to go and remake entire pairs or swap terminals out of straights
Is there any stats page like tenhou.net
feels good to unleash the fucking Teru on luckniggers
Because it's safe now, since you discarded it and they know they need to play safe since you declared riichi. It's not like they would have discarded the same tile if you hadn't already
>triple yakuman has the same cutin animation as a mangan hand
Two people needed
it's literally patience
big dick hands come to those who click that C and wait while observing other peoples discards
let's be real on silver and below nobody doesn't riichi when they're closed hand tenpai, so just be careful if there's 2-3 calls or a stick on the board, if you have enough material so you don't need that 4-5-6 throw it early so it doesn't bite you later, same for lonely doras which would disturb your hand
It's because you're not playing with the cat.
ONE MORE PLEASE
I dont read moonrunes, whats so big about this yakuman to be worth so much?
Isnt it only a Concealed All Triplets + All terminals?
Is a double yakuman worth that much?
It would have felt better if the winning hand didn't have two or three of what I wanted.
Also by that time many of the number tiles were played so it would have been better to keep the number tile instead of the bamboo
why so many chink players?
you also know that strategy is a long-term thing, right?
you only get to fuck with people's heads once you play the 6th hanchan in a row and you realize mahjong is really just big-scale rock paper scissors
>against AI
Slightly less impressive 2bh
That's how I did it in mine, I think because it's how EMA showed it on their sheet for FFXIV. Should I change it to riichi for one han, and then double riichi for 2 but then add that it doesn't stack with regular riichi?
see if you restrain yourself you can just call riichi on those and let the nyaggers do the rest for you by kanning like madmen on shit waits, no yaku and furiten and adding all the doras
To prey on the weaks
4 concealed pons with a pair wait is a double yakuman, so it's a triple yakuman combined
What's her deal? I only skim through Saki to see the metaphysical panty shots
I do. They're telling me to invest in land and housing in Japan.
that's Touka and she's a cute Ojou-sama
she also goes fucking ham on everything once she's in the zone, refer to the gasshoku chapters and the vita games
It's a triple yakuman. Waiting with only one tile instead of 2 pairs made the "all concealed triplets" to become a yakuman.
Double yakuman based on waits is bullshit.
Thanks for the game fellas. Whoever gave me the 4 instead of the 1 on for my 2 sided wait and denied my Twice Pure Straight is a cunt.
but yeah, that's kinda what saki is for besides some lesbian superpower bullshit mahjong which is always fun

Funny how the nopan shit is so associated with Saki yet i'm yet to see a doujin where this holds true
you're significantly less likely to finish the hand with a single tile wait than with the two-pair wait, and significantly less likely to get to that waiting situation in the first place
why the HELL did you add AI?

Teru has some of the nastiest magic mahjong powers. She has a full scan to find enemy mahjong powers and a cascading dealer streak that always ramps up in value. So the 3 other players have to collaborate to break the dealer streak or someone's gonna get wiped.
If you mean why they are estranged sisters god knows why because the manga is slow.
So they have actual super powers going on in this series? 'Cause like... One of the few things i do remember about Saki was this one glasses chick playing in the first tournament and her specialty was like... Taking her glasses off, was that a fucking super power?
Why would you wait on that?
He could literally have gone for tanyao with his riichi tile

Yeah, it's one of the most blah ones too.
Try to pirate the PSP game if you have one kicking around (it emulates badly). Everyone has a dumb superpower.
No one else seemed like they wanted to join and I didn't want people to get bored and leave.
maybe to bait it in easier if you think people will try to throw out off-winds before number tiles
There are some.hyper normals but there's a lot of literal magic. That one is.one of the more normal ones, apparently she can recall similar matches through the blurry vision since her family owns a mahjong parlor and she's watched a lot of games.
#49704
Even number of han, so tanyao isn't going to bump his score up as it's already haneman at a minimum. Waiting on a guest wind is a fairly sane choice for 7 pairs.
winds are pretty nasty for pair waits because they're usually reasonably safe discards, and he had 6 han even without adding tanyao so it's already a pretty substantial hand
>TFW forever bronze
At least I'm having fun.
Non-round winds that aren't live are considered to be the first 'semi-safe' tiles when there's no 100% furiten-safe ones left, especially if they aren't live, especially when 2 are already gone.
Also, consider this: without ura-doras, it would've been a 6 han hand, and tanyao would've made it 7, which would still be haneman; same with ura-doras, 7 pair hands can only have either 0 or 2 uras, so even counting them, tanyao would've been an increase from 8 to 9, which also wouldn't really move it higher than baiman. Basically, there was absolutely no point in going for tanyao, since it would've not increased the cost.
But then again, even if it did, unless he was on last place and had to go for as many points as he could, waiting on wind with 7 pairs is a lot better than on a tanyao-enabling tile.
Is there any software to up the volume on various .mp3 files at once? For you see my Ace Combat 7 soundtrack is really low
havin rinshan once is just luck but invoking rishan and haitei on every fucking tenpai for your agari is just big dick lesbian power
Why is Toguro playing Mahjong?
Is "twice double pure straight" basically an upgraded 7 pairs?
It's a pretty high level power that's basically foresight
It also lets you stack other yaku unlike 7 pairs
I don't get it, why are some tenpai waits for more than two pieces? How is that possible?
I can imagine five possible types of waits:
>for a pair
wait of one piece, there may be up to 3 of them
>for a triplet
wait of one piece, there may be up to 2 of them, if you have two pairs in your hand it can become a wait of two pieces though
>terminal sequence
wait for one piece, there may be up to 4 of them
>closed sequence wait
wait for one piece, there may be up to 4 of them
>open sequence wait
two pieces, up to 4 of each
now how come some people can wait for three, four or even five types of pieces? unless it's some shady shit like 13 orphans I don't get how that works
It's not pairs, so no. It's an upgraded iipeikou (pure double straight).
Sorry for being retarded and slow.
gg boys, it was a hard fight.

nah, I'm still learning too my first hand wasn't worth shit.
combinations like this give you a lot of waits
The arrengment is different, but you cant get a Ryanpeikou without having 7 pairs in your hand. It just so happens that for score counting purposes, you go with the Ryanpeikou instead of 7 pairs.
Same suit with sequences and pairs overlapping leads to shenanigans
So how does this work? Is there a way to carry over our old points at the end of the hanchan to a new game?
Most basic is if you have a 5 tile straight 34567 wait on 258
I got ron twice and my only tsumo wasn't worth jack too. AHHHHHH. But it was fun. I need to practice more. When I kept starting it was a lot of information to process where my hand was and where it needed to go.

Wait, do you guys calculate your hand's value as the game progresses? I've already got my head full just trying to play the game.
Not the exact number of points but i do keep how many hans i'll get in my head

Han I usually start counting when my hand is near completion. Fu I get a general estimate of
Well that wouldn't help when i'm on the car but i'll take it, where do i go from here?
does that shit still count for pinfu or nah
i'd assume it does since you could count it as an edge wait either way but i'm not actually sure how that plays out ingame
Tsumo, gomenasai
damn you fuckers only know how to play open hands
Calculating fu is too tiresome. 1 han is 1k, 2 han is 2k, 3 han is 3900, 4 han is mangan. And multiply it for 1.5 if dealer. No more thought than that and you're good.
right click and replaygain
Literally the first thing I do when I hit any game is I turn on the R and the C. I only ever turn them off if I 100% know that I need to.
Damn you are right, I just got said wait. Still can't rationalize how that works but it's true.
>you can see other players history to know who is tilting and who is on a roll
Noice.
Wait, how do you see your waits when it's not your turn?
what else do you expect from a game with Yea Forums? their hands are open like 99% of times, these fuckers only keep it closed if they get a double riichi
A 3 would give you 345, 678
A 6 would give you 456, 678
A 9 would give you 456, 789
think of it as two separate edge waits, 45 and 78
if you draw a 3, you get 345 678
if you draw a 6, you get 456 678
if you draw a 9, you get 456 789

why akagi look like mac tonight lmfao???
For pinfu, yes, in most cases. The 3-sided wait you'll most commonly see, a sequence of 5 non-terminal tiles, is really just two 2-sided waits 1 apart from eachother with a tile in the middle.
If the wait, taken with two tiles from one side of it, would leave the remainder of your hand valid, it's valid for pinfu.
>have a chance to riichi
>decide not to do it and instead just go into tenpai
>game does not give me enough time to do that
>discard the tile that would otherwise put me into tenpai automatically
fuck this game
And the same thing happens consecutively.
5 seconds is not enough fucking time to decide between riiching or not.
Come and join the FUN Room 34168
Majsoul Friends Room 34168(4-Player South): mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
You get 25 seconds to think.
Also to add to this it would help if the game highlighted what you can discard to go into tenpai. That way I don't need to click riichi before doing it.
Why south? Isn't east what people usually play?
Are the rules different?
South goes longer so a round isn't decided by 1 lucky big hand with a few doras.
It does, you can just mouse over your tiles and it'll show you what waits they give.
Doing God's work
You also have alllllll that time when it's NOT your turn to think. It's not like you just think about the state of your hand when you draw, you should always be thinking about it.
How long? SWNE or just SE?
>1 han single tile wait someone
>they rq
Yes but sometimes you have complex sequences. The opportunity to riichi appears thus indicating that you may discard something, but it is unclear what exactly you need to discard. If you already spent your 20 seconds timebank you will be all sorts of fucked.

That said, complex sequences can be pretty taxing. If it's that bad, just click the riichi button to see your waits and cancel it once you're satisfied.
>arcturus.su
Is this worth doing?
hate icons aren't welcome here user
That's exactly what I tried to do twice but lost the opportunity to do so because 5 seconds is not enough. If I had just one or two more seconds, maybe it would be possible.
If you're having problems with complex waits, you should play this for a bit. I'll give you a warning though, this is probably the second most mentally exhausting thing I've ever done in my life.
gamedesign.jp
Almost bronze 3 stars. Please let me win once more. I am so shit at Mahjong.
holy fuck mr booze calm down
Idk if you're in that situation again, just click it and then click a wait that doesn't say furiten and deal with it. The game can't pick your riichi tile for you.
This is demonic, and also why it's really important to study your tiles as you build a full flush and not just autopilot it.
Those were pretty cool games i think 40k is excessive ima make it 35 next time.

looks to be part of an open tanyao hand, or maybe yakuhai with a wind/dragon
this is posted on Yea Forums, what do you think? fucking open tanya
Depends on the open meld. If its a dragon or a scoring wind then that is the yaku.
Considering part of his hand is open, likely tanyao. If he got a 456 of the bamboo though, he might have a chance of 3 Colored Runs.
>accidentally get into furiten
>dribble them tiles into a single tile wait
SWEATING
Is it a monumental task to roll for waifus being f2p?
I'm struggling to learn but I'm having fun hitting pon-nya
yes, it's a good thing that best girl is free tho
Can someone explain how dora works? The dora shown on the dora screen is removed from the game? It can never been drawn?
moonman moonman can't you see
spics and niggers are claiming your rons
When you play irl, the last 14 tiles of the wall are set aside as the dead wall, and all 14 are out of the game. The dora indicators are ten of those 14 tiles, with the other 4 being the replacement tiles you draw after a kan.
>accidentally get into furiten
>well, I was behind anyway, I should have folded several draws ago and now I at least have safe discards
>immediately deal in
>had a hand with 22 and EE, needed just one more pon to win
>needed the EE though for the yaku, planned on using the 22 as a pair
>someone plays a 22
>skip the pon
>go into furiten
who invented this shit? I'm using it as a pair fuck you!!!!!!!
The dora-indicator is part of something called the Dead Wall. Out of all 136 tiles in the game, the last 14 tiles are NEVER drawn, except when you kan, but then the last tile of the live wall then becomes dead. The dora-indicator is flipped from the dead wall.
Not with that wait pattern he wouldn't, I don't think.
3 would give: 345, 44, 567
5 would give: 444, 55, 567
6 would give: 456, 44, 567
8 would give: 444, 55, 678
If you try and take 456 out of that hand, you're left with 44557, which isn't tenpai.
Classic east-only hand.
You should be happy that you didnt draw the 2 tho.
>6 would give: 456, 44, 567
. . .yeah, then he would have 456man, 456pin, and if the offscreen call was 456sou, it would be 3 Colored Straight.
I've been reading UmaiKeiki's guide and found something that really surprised me. I never really read any theory and played naturally, my highest results were ~R1900 4D on Tenhou and 6D on JRM. But throughout these years, apparently I've done a very important thing... wrong? according to this bit I read.
The example gives us having 47man, and then two possible scenarios - getting 3 or 5 man. The guide claims that '457' is a great wait that will be kept almost all the way to tempai, while in case of '347', 7 would've been discarded almost immediately. This whole example is used as an explanation for Senki-suji.
But I've always seen those two examples completely the other way around. Why would I keep 7 if I already have a ryanmen of 45? I could use that extra tile spot in my hand for some potential safe tile I'll discard closer to tempai, and I don't see how keeping this 7 would help me for anything other than Sanshoku, which doesn't really happen that often.
On the other hand, in case of 347, I'm inclined to keep that 7, especially if I have any retarded penchans. Any stray 7 is better than a penchan in my book, so I'm definitely keeping it unless I'm pretty much already near tempai (and it's not the case in this example, since it's used to explain senki-suji and the logic behind determining which suji is more dangerous).
What am I missing?
too add to this, the dead wall consist of 2 layers of tiles. If you win the hand off of a Riichi, you also reveal the tile under the currently revealed dora indicators and can use them as extra dora for scoring your hand. This is called the Ura Dora.

I got this earlier. The person opposite me was going for 13 orphans and had the rest of my tiles though.
all it does is discard your drawn tile

What a great game.
Well played guys.
isn't it just easier to get melds if you go 45 7
>falling asleep the entire game
Fuck, I didn't notice it's 3 am. Thanks for the games today.
I don't think I've ever read anything about senki-suji in any digital books. If anything, it's likely just some old myth like aidayonken that's been proven to be misleading.
Yea Forums's first Washizu Mahjong is over! No one died, but almost everyone came really close to at some point! Good game everyone!
That was a very long game.
I personally would not keep that 7 either way but it all depends on the dora. 45(6)7 gives you more possible dora, while in 347 the 7 is basically useless since you cant connect it to an already existing 34 you have.
>Forgot to black out the names in the background
gg. I'll take 2nd
As much as I hate waiting for Man tiles, Having a quad wait isn't a bad trade-off.
Why is 457 a great wait?
Can you please suggest something to read? I feel like even though I have enjoyed this game for like 10 years now, I really need to learn new stuff. I can keep my 1st place ratio above 30% after hundreds of games, but my 2nd and 3rd are usually below 4ths, which sucks hard and I really need to work on my defensive game.
if only I had the money and visa
>west 4
probably because if you get a 4 or 7 and a 6 you have a run and your pair
>forgot to censor background names
As expected of cat
The game was built so it would only end when someone went into negative score (aka died). But it will forcibly end at the end of West 4.
>as expected of cat
Look at the image again.
Noob here but depending on the hand I'd prefer the 457 to because if you still need a pair get the 6 you can wait on both a 4 and 7.
Probably not the reason but that's how I'd make sense of it.
>As much as I hate waiting for Man tiles
why would it be any different from any other suit?
>Missed the "Myself" being on the only one not a cat
As expected of cat
Just started playing this. Where’s the fucken fold button
Ctrl+W
3 player mode bias?
Lmao
Ah, that makes more sense than everyone being unable to go over 30k that long.
From my perspective, Man tiles seems to be the least to be discarded due to the Auto Sort, so you can guarantee your opponents have a bunch of pairs, sequences, and triples, if they are scarce in the pile. You would have better luck waiting for Pin or Sol tiles.
Throw your safe tiles then hit the D on the left.
>Why would you wait on the tile that no one wants
Geez I wonder. Unless someone has a concealed pon of north wind or uses them as pair, worst case is that you're locking them out of tenpai.
And even if that hand wouldn't be worth that much and tanyao would change the value of the hand. Winning a slightly less valuable hand is usually better than not winning at all.
Big data books like 科学する麻雀 are the thing right now. ASAPIN's books have good reviews too so you can check those.
Everyone starts with 20k so it is indeed strange that no one could go over 30k by the end of West 4 actually. Everyone got really close to negative at some point but managed to recover.
I pair wait on live honors all the time. I'll change my wait from a ryanmen to a tanki if I think someone's waiting to pon the dragon I just drew. I know it's not "efficient" or whatever but neither is giving the guy one of the two remaining tiles in the game that can give him a yaku.
It's just very flexible. The 3-8 tiles just improve your hand.
4, 5 and 7 dupes are a pair make while still retaining a wait.
3 and 6 finish sets. 8 is a worse 3 but still overall useful.
What makes it real good is it's likely you'll get a 3 or an 8 waiting for the 6 and once you get the 6 you can setup a 4 tile wait tenpai. Even if you don't get a 6 it's still usable.
>Played 5 matches and never got a hand
T-this happens right?
learn tile efficiency
In five matches? You're probably doing it wrong.
just a bad day
tile efficiency is cool but it won't help you 100% of the time when the other people just get luckier or some idiot throws to them.
you need to chii pon more
Yeah, but five matches in a row means it's more than just varience.
I just don't know how to put myself into a better position than this
Urasuji (and its extension, aidayonken) have been statistically shown in 科学する麻雀 to be practically meaningless. Senji suji is something I've never seen mentioned in any other defense guide, article, or book, even in Japanese strategy materials, and it's surely rubbish. Regular suji is important, and you should at least know the concept of matagi suji to understand why sobaten is dangerous, but other than those two you should instead refer to the defense articles on justanotherjapanesemahjongblog.blogspot.com, the defense section in Daina Chiba's Riichi Book 1, and the defense articles on mahjong.guide. The theories in all these resources were taken from modern, reputable, stat-backed Japanese strategy books, and they should be your go-to.
What's up with that?
Y'all cowards don't even pon craks.
should have gone for 7 pairs
Open your hand with a kan then win by rinshan kaihou is the way.
>Had an opportunity to ron three coloured triplets
>Greed takes the better of me and decide to wait to draw a 9 to add chanta
It never works out yet I keep passing on wins.
>6man in hand but 5man as first discard
Why don't you post the whole game log?
too late I did ron.
>ToiToi with multiple seat tiles
One is enough. You should've discarded those and maybe the Dragon tiles to have a chance.
Don't think of it that way, that is the way of the defeat. They don't have your tiles, you have their tiles. Deny victory unless they surrender it to you! Its your Jong, not their jong!

Do you love backfires?
If your hand started to look like 7 pairs before the two 9m discards, you fucked up. Otherwise it's just bad luck.
this game stopped being fun once I realized optimal play is to fold on like 75% of rounds
Consecutive discarded draws.
>all those middle discards
>all those pairs over sequences
I would need 2 posts for complete review, but you have to learn how tile efficiency works, and call only when you have to. Those yakuless hands were so painful, and the fact that all 4 players had them didn't help at all.
not true in east only.
>all those riichis
this game is too fast
>not true in [not the actual game]
>was in riichi for chiitoitsu twice
Ohh boy
>optimal play
laughingcats.jpg
that was the point I was trying to make, east only is fast and a lot of people think one can just never get a hand and get discouraged and fold, but that's where tile efficiency improving comes in, making your hand before others is important too, not just defending against others risk taking is the whole point of the game, that's why in books they always give you multiple conditions one should consider on both sides (either to push or fold) to actually decide, but one shouldn't be slave to them.
but that folding focus on defense is important in e+s, because of general big games so firm players who manage to get big hands rake in a lot of points and they also get a lot of rounds to continue playing and raking in points ending up reducing other people's chances of comebacks. but in east round people don't get lot of scores for obvious reasons so comebacks are always possible. but now that I am seeing I am contradicting myself.
retard here

Kept 3m and thrown W
Pon East is ok
On Turn 10 you should have kept the 9p and started getting rid of those two 6m and made it a possible chanta honitsu
How do I read this? Am I missing these tiles when this pops up? I noticed it pops up when hovering over some tiles.
AAAAAAAHHHH
>ron'd on riichi tile
get rekt
Literally only did that kan so someone gets fucked.
Those are your winning tiles but you have no yaku so you can't form a real hand.
they could complete your hand but your hand is worthless because no yaku
That's to say, they would be your winning tiles IF you had a yaku and discarded the tile you're hovering over.
community that's been lowkey building up for like 10 years + new client that lowers the barrier to entry to the point you can dive in even if you don't know shit about mahjong + anime grilles = festival
You aren't missing them. It's specifically stating those tiles are preventing your hand for having a closed Yaku. You must've brute forced Pon and Chi going for ToiToi and fucked up your hand.
Because I'm retarded and wan't to know if I'm correct. I needed those to win but I would have to work my current hand around a yaku that would work with those? Sorry for being retarded still new and trying to figure this game out, it's so fucking addicting.
Obviously I fucked up, but is there anything I could have done here to somehow get third
you should build your hand around a yaku
not deal in
Since you opened your hand with a call (pon or chii) you can't simply win by forming a complete hand, you need specific win conditions, like 3 dragon tiles, prevalent wind, seat wind or no terminals/honors to name some simple yakus, otherwise you get no points and can't win.
thanks for killing me guys
Amazing
It means your hand is technically complete but worthless so you can't win with it. You could try to change it so you have a yaku, but that will also most likely change the tiles you're waiting on also. So you don't actually change your hand to match those tiles because when you change your hand, you are usually not waiting on the same thing anymore.
It was a complete draw
sometimes you lose a lot, and sometimes you absolutely destroy everyone
thanks for the 2 dora kan in that earlier hand
Yaku is your "licence to win", you need at least one yaku.
You don't have any.
Fun fact, you can't simply win if you keep your hand closed either. Unless you call riichi, then you can.
Does this game have a good tutorial?
If not, what's a good resource/game to learn it?
Ah ok makes sense now, I did do an early Pon-nya. Thanks for the info Anons, I'll keep at it and try to get better! I think I got confused with the no terminals, didn't realize they were 1 and 9 tiles.
Everything you need to know is in this gif.
So on the summon screen are the two girls there are on rate up right?
The basics are simple.
1. Learn the tiles, 1-9 of 3 suits, 7 honors
2. Learn the calls, pon, kan, chi, riichi, ron, tsumo (double riichi)
3. Learn about yaku
That's literally all you need to know, the rest comes with practice, don't bother learning all the yaku at once. It's like learning kanji as you learn Japanese, just learn the ones you use first and learn the others as you come across them. Common yaku are things like tanyao and riichi.
End results of 44702,
94577
Novice to intermediate.
The end hand was salt overdose.
The tutorials are as basic as any other Mahjong client. You should be used to it within a week.
Ah it's your average triplets game...
I'm glad I finally got into mahjong.
It's really fun and I can play it anywhere.
>you can't simply win if you keep your hand closed either

You can't win with ron, but you can win with tsumo, right?
>richii
>drawing ends
>only me and other guy have tenpai
>i end up 3rd place
?? bros wtf
That's not simple.
>10 han ron
I have never seen anything so brutal happen
>I was literally about to play the same tile the other guy did
Jesus christ.
how are u having a ready hand? you only have pairs no sequence or triplet
What's simpler than drawing your winning tile?
2 more please respond
Taking it from the other players discard which is 3x more likely to be the case.
7 pairs is one of 2 valid hands that violate the 4 sets and pair setup.
He was going for Iipeikou &
Chiitoitsu. you only need 2 identical sequences for Iipeikou and Chiitoitsu is 7 pairs.that's 3 Hans total.
beginner room?
thanks
you can't be both iipeikou/ryanpeikou and chitoitsu
Need some more, get in here.
It physically hurts to watch so I couldn't get past second round, but here's two tips:
1. Toitoi, or all triplets, is statistically a shit hand. You are unlikely to get it and it's only 2 han open by itself, so dismantling stuff like 667 and complete sequences at the start of the game to go for toitoi is a dumb move. Riichi tanyao pinfu is 3 han by itself, and it's mangan with menzen tsumo or ippatsu. Meanwhile, by going for toitoi you are increasing your chances to deal in since you have less tiles to discard, all for meager 2 han. I, personally, go for toitoi when I'm aiming for seven pairs and draw a triplet early. I regret it more often than I don't.
2. You should think a little before opening your hand. A good reason to open your hand is going for open tanyao with dora or red fives. Yakuhai is cool when you have a fast hand, but if it's full of closed waits you should probably reconsider, unless you have dora. By the way, I'm pretty sure toitoi is one of the slowest hands in the game. So when you're going for it and somebody wins with 1k points, you've got nobody but yourself to blame.
You can win with ron damaten if you have yaku
You can go damaten with a fucking pinfu if you're already way ahead
Alright, the game sometimes goes on but the display fucks up, is there a way to solve this without closing and opening a new tab?
Get a yakuman.

Thank you. I'm sorry my playing was that bad, but i'll learn from this.

yeah but only me and theother guy have tenpai meaning others aren't close they shouldn't have that much points
1: Not doing this earlier. Both three bamboos were dead. When you weren't going to finish your hand before exhaust.
You probably saved my life though. Thank you. I got greedy trying to just finish.
2: Not playing with a person that tosses two open kans like that.
god i wish i wasnt such a brainlet and too lazy to really learn the game lads
yeah actually it should be you on starting, other guy +1000, other 2 -1000
FUCK RON
Sorry I read it wrong, thought you and the other guy had the same amount of points at the end of the game
Hobikob, stop dropping 5s so easily, they're the riskiest tiles.
me retard me open tanyao in 4th place nya
If you want to learn more you should read this book: dainachiba.github.io
It assumes that you already know how to play the game in general though
The two 3 bamboos were going to be my pair or something. Maybe. The green dragon looked far more dangerous and felt like instant death to deal, while the 7 man was kind of less risky to deal? I have the bad habit of assuming people aren't in tenpai if there hasn't been 3 calls yet
Fuck off if I'm dealer and get a shitty hand I'll open tanyao, keep crying.
ENOUGH WITH THE NYAGGERS
>chink got an early baiman so things look grim
>suddenly FLOW
>get RON call after RON call, get a baiman then a tsumo win after that
>end with 60k points, coming from 4th place
Sweet merciful jesus flow is actually real
That's fine. But once you get to that point in the game. Your pair is better served to cuck two dangerous tiles from the other players. It lets you play towards winning while dealing with tiles you don't want to drop.
Try to just assume call count only matters for pons. With chi looking hands they can only grab tiles from their left. But ron is everybody. If their left isn't tossing useful tiles they're readying it them self.
Forgot my pic in my excitement

Beginner strats:
Keep hand closed(don't pon/chi). Only open hand if you can get Yakuhai(see chart). Discard in the following priority: Get rid of single honor tiles, get rid of single/non-adjacent 9/1, get rid of single/non-adjacent 8/2. Don't ron with single waits.
In reality it's a lot more complicated than that but this is way to start and win some hands.
>try to make money by selling avatars
>give people the best avatar for free nya
Jesus fucking christ, it took me a solid 3 minutes or so at staring at this hand to figure it out how does it make a complete hand.

He said beginner strats. At beginner stage, you are struggling with the rules, recognizing hands, keeping it all together. It's very solid advice on that level. You can start worrying about not being predictable once you are confident with playing the game, but while you are not there this is solid advice for practicing.
