Unironically the best story based Mario game with a great soundtrack

It's good and charming, but CT is better in every aspect.

It's pretty good

idk but it has one of the best OST ever and it's not surprising since you know who was the composer for most of it

SMRPG is the best game to play as one's introduction to JRPGs.

Played it for the first time last year. It's a good game but holy fuck it's hard.

I have an eternal war raging inside my soul over which is better, this or TTYD.

Thousand year whore is much more fleshed out and easier on the eye.

It's honestly still my favorite game of all-time just in terms of nostalgia and sentimental value. I think everyone should play this game at least once.

fpbp

>hard

What the fuck? It's easy as shit.

Was it Yaridovich?
Nothing else in that game is even remotely challenging but he has a tendency to ruin your day if you're not using Geno.

>not using Geno

I was never able to find the casino

easy rpg in comparison to others in the genre but a true gem for its generation.
A real icon and trendsetter as a timing based rpg which was a good entry game into turn based combat for many SNES players at the time.

It's fucking boring no reason to play this in 2019

Mario RPG had more active combat that rewarded timing. CT was better than a lot out there, but Mario was more engaging imo.

I legit played through Mario RPG first and then later rented Chrono Trigger. I was convinced the timing mechanic was part of every turn based RPG and it was the reason I was able to get criticals constantly. Turns out the game I rented the game had new game plus unlocked so I started out with the Rainbow sword. Which if I recall crits 75% of the time. I was glad to see it returned in the Paper Mario games, but it felt like there was far less variety. Mario RPG was something special with all the different types of weapons.

It's good but I find that it's also really outdated, Paper Mario basically made it irrelevant.

Great game, but since I have an aversion to Square, I prefer PM64 and TTYD.

Fantastic game, and here's why. It functions equally well as an entry-level RPG and a traditional JRPG. For many people, it was their first RPG, and it sold them on the genre with its engaging setting, characters, story, and so on.

For veterans of the genre, it was a polished, active, playful game that emphasized "fun" as a proper Nintendo title, which helped break up the overly serious nature and slog that was FFIV-VI.

>tfw Paper Mario was originally going to be a direct sequel to SMRPG but then the Square Nintendo split happened

We hates it

It's good but it's easy and the dialogue feels weird.

Good proof of concept and interesting for fleshing out the Mario characters a bit but outside of that it's really eh.

>holy fuck it's hard.

Just because enemies don't die in three turns like Paper Mario doesn't make it hard. Only Yaridovich, the bonus boss and the final boss ares even remotely difficult.

One of the greatest games of all time. Literally timeless. You could boot it up now and it hasn't aged a day.

It's amazing to me that there are people who like the papershit games better. I know the world is filled with low IQ shitters, but damn. That is bad taste.

Ironic how Yea Forums praises this game but when Geno is brought up for Smash he gets shit on

I love Dunban in Xenoblade doesn't mean he's a good char choice.

That's not what I mean. People on this board say shit like no one has ever heard of/played this game, the game he's from is shit, etc, but then this thread pops up and suddenly that's flipped. I guess this is also the difference between Smashfags and people who actually play games.

From what I’ve heard it’s the closet to the original paper mario in terms of writing you will get.

I imagine most of the same people worked on it as well.

It was a good meme

>It's a good game but holy fuck it's hard.

Uh, how? Have you literally never played a JRPG before? I don't understand.
Peoples biggest complaint with SMRPG is that it lacks difficulty

Lack of difficulty doesn't mean it's bad tho. Castlevania SOTN was easy as shit but it was good

>he hasn't played the Armageddon version

Play this version is basically a sequel of the game

100% certain that only contrarians and Smashfags don't use him, he's way too broken to pass up.

>overly serious nature and slog that was FFIV-VI
V was neither of those but I agree on IV and VI

/thread

what the fuck are you talking about

I love Ken, but I am still mad that he got in Smash

SOTN is easier than shit with the shield rod

It's a "hardmode" romhack that he likes. It's not bad if you've been through the original at least once

Yeah problem is you wind up wanting more like SMRPG and none are quite like it

It's pretty good if you're 6 to 10 years old.
