What a horrible night for a Castlevania thread

I just want the damn battle of 99 Castlevania. Knowing Konami they're just going to do a pre symphony of the night style game instead of finishing the canon.

Ready to emulate Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin boys, what am I in for. How does it compare to the other metroidvanias (Have played Aria, Dawn and SotN)

Doesn't have any touch screen bullshit and I kinda like the partner system. It's my favorite of the DS games, but it was also my first Castlevania, so there's that.

Yeah, the final two DS "metroidvanias" barely qualify as metroidvanias.
OoE goes on to remove the time between paintings entirely and just make a level select instead of an interconnected world. It only has one big, open map at the very end, but even that plays out linearly.

Man I just want Julius to have his own game. It's really dumb that it's never happened.

Soft disagree with that. 1999 is too hyped up by the sheer fact that Julius is the Belmont that actually kicked Drac's shit so hard that he reincarnated as a dorky white haired bishounen. I'd rather leave it as an event that should be left to the imagination of the player rather than have it spoiled by what might be a game that may not live up to the hype.

People who want Castlevania 1999 are the same people who think an Elf Wars Megaman X game would be a good idea. A big dramatic flashy event in another game's backstory that would inevitably be a stock-standard entry with a little extra flavour text if it were made into an actual game. In a 1999 game Julius would fight through a completely normal castle and have a completely normal fight with Dracula that would end in some text boxes explaining how he's extra dead this time. Same way an Elf Wars game would be go fight eight mavericks with a couple of short cutscenes in the intro and final boss castle.

Shit guys ain't about hype and I never wanted or needed an elf wars game. I just straight up wanted more Castlevania goodness. Plus Julius seems like a cool guy.

Some good shit, I love it honestly. Partner system is fun as fuck (and I honestly wish it returned in OoE with Shanoa+Albus near the end, but that's a story for another day), all the special weapons/spells you get are pretty fun and some of them have secret uses, etc. Paintings are great and offer more diverse locales than what's been typical for Castlevania. If you enjoyed the other metroidvanias you'll enjoy PoR for sure.

All three of the DS games have their merits and drawbacks and whenever Castlevania gets discussed people sometimes bring up the DS entries. You should try them out. Pretty neat games.

We know what happens already, and it's unlikely that a 1999 game would be markedly different with its game design. is 100% right. The only thing interesting about Julius is that he kills Dracula for real and has facial hair. He's nothing special.
