The information we have right now show that he's unlockable for "clearing" adventure mode. Whether that is any% or full clear is ambiguous.
Crunch, Zam, and Zem being unlocked in the same manner indicates that they'll also be for adventure mode progression, which actually fits snugly into a CNK adventure mode (which we've seen the Phenomina homeworld teased already) along with 1 other character unlock to accomodate CNK's 4 gem cups. I'll go out on a limb and guess that the purple CNK cup will be Penta Penguin because shoving Spyro in there seems too "hard" for casuals to unlock.

I may not have played CTR, but I loved CNK as a kid and I'm ecstatic if I get to see the first hub remade on modern hardware.

You are in for quite a treat. The big takeaway that you'll hear regarding the two games is that CNK didn't capture the same magic in its mechanics that CTR did but was still a competent kart racer.

Tire & Ice specifically is just textbook CTR track design. Tons of corners to powerslide, only long straight is the ski jump at the end (perfect spot for a super turbo pad).

Hey fuck you I liked Kra- er, N. Trance. Besides he's better at the hypnosis gimmick than Cortex and gets bonus points for being Tropy's friend.
CTR's strength in stage design isn't just from curves and turns, it's from bumps and ramps for you to gain hangtime boosts from so you are constantly on the lookout for good drifting lines as well as opportunities to get jump boosts. This is why CTTR would be painfully mediocre if they were to port into Nitro Fueled; way too many straightaways and not enough places to get any air aside from places where it's mandatory.
The game mechanics aren't even remotely similar so it's a bit of a lost cause to try to correlate them. CNK has way more going for it in terms of raw similarities, but I'd be more on board for CNK tracks than things from any of the Crash mobile kart games, CTTR, or even the scrapped CTR2010 simply because of those mechanics overlaps causing bleedover into the stage design.

You'd be surprised how many CTTR tracks just have ramps placed in the middle of straights for no reason. Like they were designed for a hangtime turbo system that was cut or something.

I would really like for Tawna to be in something besides the first game for a change. I think it's time to stop shying away from the challenge of writing her or representing a sexy female character in a series that already has trouble keeping female characters
Reserves are lost if you stop or slow down for any reason at all.
If you're driving fast, you can outpace basically everything except for a warp orb or n. tropy clock. Missiles lock directly onto you so you can easily lead them into a wall or a defensive item dropped behind you. Bombs have a distinct sound effect so you should be swerving if you hear one coming. And you shouldn't be driving predictably enough to get nailed in the head by a beaker thrown forward.

It could go either way at this point. So far we haven't seen that yet.
I want the motorcycle as a kart option for crash and his leather jacket and sunglasses as a costume.
Unfortunately the kart animations wouldn't work at all. They wouldn't give it it's own animations or they would've done it with oxide's kart.
The hitbox could be an issue too.
