I never thought of that, I normally start with the head and move downwards so everything can line up right. That sounds less time taxing thinking about it.
The torso dictates the overall position of the body in 3D space much more than the head does. It's also much easier to sight-size off of torso landmarks than it is with heads.

It has for me at a worse level, though to be fair, i didnt nearly practice as much as i have been lately, and i feel like ive been making some amount of progress because of forcing myself out of comfort zones. There's also much worse things an artist can be though, like pic related.
My sketches do feel kind of unrecognizable sometimes. I have to do a lot of thinking about form and line placement that could probably be resolved in the sketch phase if I was neater and more decisive.

That happens to everyone. Hell, having sketches being looser means you think more when lining, instead of blindly following your sketch only to realize that it's wrong when you zoom out.
Can't argue with the results. I can see how the method could be misleading if were say in a commission dynamic but it does show some planning to get a feel for the form and things don't look wooden or symbol drawn at least.

I'll might allow it as a specific learning step, but it's better to try and 1:1 copy from the reference by hand. And if you can't do that even then you need to practice it more before trying to finish whatever you're making.

You still need a few fundamentals to draw fun stuff but those are all skills you can pick up in ~6 months. The only way to get really proficient at drawing what you want is to draw what you want a lot.
