If you go to the map South of Veins there are a lot of them there that you can mob. I would take my assassin there, round up a bunch, then grimtooth them to death. Drop off the loot in a kafra then have your overprice merchant sell them off to a tool dealer

Also forgot to mention, save the White herbs and rough oridecon since they obviously sell for more to other players

For like 3 days before I fucked off to Payon, then Alberta, and then Morroc before finally settling down in Lutie. I only went to Prontera for shopping and I hated every minute I spent on that beggar town.

Honest answer, no. The magic is gone, I'm not even talking about the game itself, but RO was the first MMO for a lot of impressionable teens in their prime weeb years. It had a sense of community that is long gone from online gaming in general with bustling towns and all kinds of people being part of its community and actively engaging in it.

You can play the game as it is on any server if you want to check it out purely as a game, but you won't have the same experience most of us had and you'll likely find that the game has aged poorly and is kind of a chore to play and will be left wondering why we all make a big deal about this mediocre thing.

x5 to x15 seems low. I was thinking 20x so that old jaded gamers won't give up, maybe they can try a few classes they never got to in the past. It's still low enough that you need to spend a few days in each of the areas.

I don't plan on balance or change content in any way. The idea is to make it vanilla and run it with only a single admin. With no GMs, there's no drama and no chance of corruption.

No resets. No Warper. Maybe a healer but not free(costs the same as the Inn, maybe?). No autoloot either. Party EXP bonus have always been in the game, I think it's 10% per player.

Autovendor might be alright, leaving the game running overnight sucks.

This might seems a bit extreme but I'll try to make up for the lack of convenience in other ways.

I say Yea Forums server but we'd probably get visitors from other boards such as /vg/, /jp/, Yea Forums and others.

yes. the touhou shit was so broken in the early stages of that game. you get hit 1 by of the bullets and your character freezes but things are still happening on screen and 5 minutes later you find out you're dead along with the entire map

To expand on this:

You want the EXP rates sort of low to stretch out the partying experience because that's the actually enjoyable and social part of the game.

You want the Drop rates to be a bit higher because that's shortens the annoying part of the game, which was solo farming cards until your hands and eyes bled.

The only caveat would be that custom drop rates might be more preferable. I was actually alright with most drop rates, I just didn't enjoy farming for anything rarer than 1/1000. It was aids.

It's fine, we can take things at our own pace. There's enough people on Yea Forums to play a server and, believe it or not, lots of people flock in to new servers even if they have no idea how they came to be.

This is what people think until they actually play the game and realize that it really was exactly just as brutal as they remember. We aren't 12 anymore, we don't have all the time in the world even if we wanted.

I've run servers within that population range. It's a nice sweet spot because you don't have any lag and it's still comfy and home-y enough to not feel like a sea of strangers.

I need to pounder on item drop rates yet but I'm thinking of starting off small and maybe increasing it over time.

This is something I wish more modern MMO's had. RO had a mythos, every character, every NPC was were they were according to the game Mythos, they all had their place in the world.

Gate of the world had a lot of ambition and I liked the systems they had for weapons and character growth. While a lot of people were angry it wasn't just 3D RO, in a an era where every MMO was just trying to be a re-skinned WoW, Gate of the World was trying to carve its own path while keeping the charm and spirit of the original RO.

The fact that it was scrapped in favor of Legend of the Second was a goddamn travesty.

You'd be surprised. That's the whole reason Eve Online has the player base and community it does. You can freely scam, steal and cheat as much as you like in it plus it's a very unforgiving game with slow, boring gameplay 95% of the time and shitting your heart out of your chest the other 5% of the time. Shit that nearly all other MMOs dont do. All the WoW clones give you instant warps everywhere and bing bing wahhoo here's your reward gameplay that not everyone wants.

Yes I know, EVE Online is my MMO holy grail even if I can't stand the game itself. Making an RO server with mixed-in EVE mechanics is one of my future projects.

just make a PVP low-rate server with no warpers/healer/reset girl, make towns safe zones and allow people to scam each other and rip each other off.
I missed playing on low rate PVP servers because you often had to rack your brain thinking of alternative places to exp that gankers and other people wouldnt think to go and you couldnt trust anyone.
The number of fucking times a sinx decloaking and 1shotting some noobie thief would turn into a 40v40 PVP war in some random fucking zone.

plus everyone carrying a Priest alt with them because they cant play without AGI up, Bless, Angelus, Kyrie Elesion and Magnificat buffed on them 24/7

I attempted to build a server with some coder from the Philippines, but gave up because I know nothing about coding and didn't know if I could trust the guy. It was going to have superquest items like in TalonRO, and they would have way more customization options than on Talon. If I could do seasons it would be even better. And I would make it as little pay2win as I could stomach, perhaps some QoL buffs for a sub fee or something. Or cosmetic items or whatever. I'm still interested in reviving the project but have no idea how to do it really, besides asking that coder guy which I'm hesitant to do now.

Is it possible to do an RO server in a style where you go through the updates to the game, so you start with the vanilla server and then move on your way through each update?

quite a lot of them do this, but you have to get in on the server right near when it first starts or it feels like you've just joined a normal RO server

How do they gauge when to update? Time or playerbase achievements?

I asked my friend who's also an RO server dev, he'll let me borrow his home server box. I should be able to get it done by the end of the weekend.
