Do you want to play some SMOD CSS Sci-Fi? I recently made a video and included the installation instructions in the video description, but now I've zipped up all the necessary files and configs into one simple folder! Place the folder anywhere - no installation required, no HL2 or CSS required.
Well, this is the third time I attempt to make this thread. Guess you guys just aren't interested.
Tyler Ramirez
I don't see the point of playing CSS maps in single player. A well done SMOD repack (including all the extra plugins and shit) with standalone HL2 would be a different story since it's a pain in the ass nowadays to get it working since Valve fucked it up with updates.
Luke Price
It's not CSS - it just uses the maps. It's singleplayer missions. Some are hostage rescue, some are destroy target, etc.
>A well done SMOD repack (including all the extra plugins and shit) with standalone HL2 would be a different story This repack includes vanilla SMOD40aq and is directly compatible with the latest version of SMOD Redux Final. Just download it and put it in the 'mods' folder.
Joseph Gomez
Hey, this isn't my thing, but I guarantee you it's definitely somebody's dream come true. post it at least once a month for a long while.
Dylan Adams
finally, SMOD's always been broken for me
John Morgan
>Hey, this isn't my thing, but I guarantee you it's definitely somebody's dream come true Aw, yeah, I get it. I was just really hyped to finally get it working again. I relaly missed it.
>post it at least once a month for a long while Maybe I'll try posting it now and then, but that kind of seems to be a sure way to get people to fucking hate me for "shilling".
I installed CSS Csi Fi a couple months ago. It's not as good as I remember. Would rather play doom wads.
Cameron Miller
Doom wads are fun too. I like both, though I prefer Quake and Arcane Dimensions.
Christopher Gray
im not particular fan of this but i have nothing else to do tonight, will try it then thank you for your efforts
Michael White
Fuck son I used to play the shit out of this. I'm glad you can still play it. I also really miss SMOD Tactical
Robert Adams
>This repack includes vanilla SMOD40aq and is directly compatible with the latest version of SMOD Redux Final. Just download it and put it in the 'mods' folder. I mean a self contained pack with absolute zero dependencies since we don't know if valve will fuck around with HL2 at some point again and break it.
Aaron Jones
No problem - Hope you have fun. Do report back regardless, if the thread is still up. I still haven't had anyone confirm that it works properly. Just tested it on my own computer.
That's exactly what this is, user. You don't need CSS or HL2, or even Steam, to run this.
Christopher King
Underage post-election refugees have never heard of SMOD
Jaxon Russell
looks fun OP ill give it a shot
Bentley Anderson
So you can you play though the entire HL2 campaign with it? Ok that's neat I misunderstood then.
Jonathan Williams
Oh fuck, I thought this didn't work anymore, based
Alexander Ross
Are you that guy who keeps posting SMOD webms and helping people install the mod?
Theres a bunch of people including mei hope who never got that fucking mod to work, so there's definitely an audience, don't get discouraged in 5 minutes man
Andrew Edwards
Having said that, holy fuck this website you are hosting is caner, put it on mega.nz or google drive, it'll take me two hours to download this shit
Nicholas Carter
This is good OP, but like said, re-upload to mega at least.
Oh fuck, I just tested the standalone version I made and apparently it doesn't load maps in the normal SMOD 40aq version. So unless you have HL2 installed you probably won't be able to play through this. (It works perfectly when placed in the \Steam\steamapps\sourcemods folder with HL2 installed though) Might also need 2006 SDK through Steam, but I don't think that's necessary.
Have fun! Please report back on how it works
That sounds like me, yeah. Alright, that's great!
Sorry, I just took the first site that google offered. I don't want to register anywere since I'm uploading pirated parts of HL2 and CSS.
Wyatt Jackson
>it doesn't load maps in the normal SMOD 40aq version Do you plan to fix it at some point? It would be really nice to have a version that will be playable forever.
Nathan Bell
Perhaps. I'm no techie, so I'm not sure I'll be able to do anything about it if the code requires it to be in that specific folder structure, but I can give it a go. CSS works fine standalone, at least.
Adam Collins
Also, HL2 is 4GB now, so that would more than double the file size if I included the whole game fodler. I'll see if I can find a way around it.
Ryan Lee
Next time explain in the OP, after reading the thread I'm still not sure what I'm looking at. So these are CS:Source maps. Populated by bots for single player... but it uses vanilla HL2 weapons? And its like a linear mission instead of several rounds of games like CS?
Julian Barnes
I'll keep an eye out for your threads, godspeed dude.
Cameron Brown
Can you make one without bundling the css and hl2 assets? aka sourcemods and gameinfo edit shit, some people just want more convenience by throwing that shit in sourcemods folder and play
Joseph Gonzalez
Hm, I'm pretty sure all the necessary HL2 files are copied to the SMOD standalone package, but the code is written so that it checks if you have HL2 in the normal Steam folder, to make it a "legal" mod. If we could circumvent that check it should work all on its own.
SMOD is a legendary HL2 mod that was released by some unknown japanese guy in 2006. It's a mod that adds a lot of strange weapons, bullet time effects (like in FEAR) and much more gore and gibbing. Since then, a lot of people have made mods for SMOD, one of which is CSS Sci Fi. In CSS Sci Fi, you play a variety of missions on CSS map, some of which are quite creative. However, SMOD and all the mods that relied on it broke when Valve released HL2:Ep2, and their new version of Source Engine, which was a forced update. Now, with SMOD Standalone, CSS Sci Fi has become playable again. I also added a lot of my own configs to make the game more fun. Such as superkicks and superjumps, and more gore and vfx that was turned off by default.
Brayden Richardson
The HL2 assets are required. This is a standalone rebuild of SMOD, so it doesn't fetch files from the Steam folder (just verifies that they are present for legality). The CSS folders you can just delete, if you're not going to play CSS Sci Fi.
It requires HL2 and Source SDK 2006 to be installed and run at least once.
Chase Nelson
Have you thought about hosting the download on google docs or dropbox or something?
Jack Cooper
As I mentioned, I don't want to host it with an account that can be directly connected to me. Feel free to host it elsewhere if you like. I don't take any credit and mirrors are always good.
Colton Smith
bump for videogames
Juan Martinez
Thanks for the bump. I'm still looking throught the scripts to see if I can find the code snippet that does the check for the HL2 installation, but I can't seem to find it. It seems only SMOD 40aq is blocked by this check though, so I'll attempt making a standalone folder with Redux instead, and see if that works.
Jeremiah Garcia
oh shit I had totally forgotten about smod Did it break at some point?
Colton Parker
It turns out Redux is also blocked with the check - but only if you launch a map from the "Start new game" button! If you load a map from the console (just type "map " and then scroll down to whatever suggestion you want) the map will load just fine!
Carson Allen
It broke with HL2:Ep2 and the new source engine update that came with it.
Aiden Anderson
Hm, nevermind, that only gives a small selection of maps. The starting map isn't there, for some reason.
Austin Parker
what about SMOD Tactical?
Luke Rivera
You're doing God's work user. This is fantastic.
Samuel Stewart
Pretty sure there's a standalone version of Redux OP, try checking that out.
