people grew up

I feel really bad for you guys who have been into mechs for a while. I'm really new to mecha, so I've been having loads of fun playing all these mech games and watching shows I had no idea about

Not well liked by anyone outside of Japan. Even media that wants to appeal to the audience try to keep it at arms distance

Attached: titanfail.jpg (985x963, 335K)

That's wrong though since Mechs generally appeal to the older crowd.

>anyone

Attached: 15767532.jpg (400x345, 107K)

and that's the reason why it doesn't appeal to 99.99% of people

Armored Core 6 when?
I want consorts back.

I don't feel mech games have ever really been in vogue, although they usually get a few niche games each generation. I think that has stayed consistent, there's just no armored core.

Attached: file_1.png (636x773, 116K)

Piranha entertainment has a stranglehold on mechs in the west, since they own the rights to Mechwarrior, and are sitting on their half-assed Mechwarrior Online game as a way to milk cash out of nostalgic boomers (real boomers who played tabletop Battletech as teenagers, ages +50y/o).

It's a shitty mech game though.
Can't fully-customize your mech loadouts
Mechs can't fall over (they used to, but the boomers whined about it being not fun)
No environmental destruction of any kind, terrain, buildings, etc
Every game mode is literally just 12v12 with side-objectives on some modes, but every round is elimination.

There are other mech games around but, they'll all the zooming flying hyper weeb shit, and most players want something that feels more like a simulator.
The only hope I see for mech games is for somebody to make a title like Steel Battalion for the PC, and to not turn it into flying Gundam weebshit.

>Weebshit
>That spacing
>Boomers
Golly I wonder where you're from

Battletech/Mech Warrior franchise fucked up the genre five ways from Sunday.

Mechs aren't hip anymore.
Unless you're one of those people who keep an eye on smaller devs who like mecha games, you won't find much nowadays.

Attached: 2019-03-05-031225.jpg (960x544, 66K)

>Mechwarrior
>some shitty online pvp game
Hmm, reminds me of another old mech game. Oh right, they wanted to do the stupid pvp thing too. This is why the West can't have good mech games.

MAV looks cool

>anthem

"Flying Gundam Weebshit" is the goal. Walking boxes are retarded

The lack of Mech games comes from the same problem Dinosaur games have, No one can actually make a good game about them.
>mfw Battletech, Mechwarrior are dead
>mfw never get a remake or reboot of A.R.Ms
>Turok is dead as well and no sign of reviving

Mechwarrior 5 is coming out this year.

>tfw no mechs

why do thunderbolts keep changing their appearance?

>make mech game
>meta becomes about using spreadsheets to optimize dmg and defense
>nobody cares about handling and skill, because you can always one-shot people with homing missiles
>surprised when it doesn't sell well
>Nobody wants to spend >75% of the game tuning up shitty robots only to have it shot-down by min/maxers

How would YOU fix the mech genre?

Attached: floppysha.gif (260x320, 1.97M)

No multiplayer

That's why I really like Armored Core, with so many combinations there's no forced meta faggotry.

nobody gives a shit about them, the people who care want super autistic details and spreadsheets which scare away the actual crowd of people that will pay for the games development and profit margins basically

battletech was a huge pile of dogshit, id love a new armored core or even the older games to be ported and remastered for fun, but no

mech games are dead in the west, theres just no fucking demand for them

in its place you get shit like ANTHEM

and its much faster gameplay too

I love the Bushwacker!

Attached: Bushwacker1.gif (288x298, 36K)

The problem is the menu crawling with the customization. Your average casual just does not fucking care if those servo upgrades improve dodge speed by ~2%, and they certainly aren't going to spend the time optimizing their mech in a menu designed for people who do actually care. If we are to bring an actual good Mecha game about, it needs to give shitters an easy opt out of the more detailed tuning

I'm not really a battletech guy but from what I understand the mechwarrior games gave everyone the wrong idea on what a battlemech is 'supposed' to be like? Like in mechwarrior they're these boring, barely mobile hunks of metal when they're supposed to be closer to something like Patlabor or 08th MS team.

Approach it like VOTOMS. A mech is not something to be tweaked in a garage, it is a tool meant to be used up and discarded.

I'm so fucking mad about that game

Attached: 1524861097043.jpg (1440x1072, 270K)

Mechwarrior living legends already fixed it with player skill being the only thing that matters.

>recently
Mech vidya has always been niche and almost entirely mediocre.

It got killed by MWO but made a comeback last year. Population is very low but it's a fantastic game when people are playing. You get to fuck clanners up with vehicles and bushwackers.

When I say killed I don't mean MWO was better. It was murdered like prey 2.

Bros...

I want a mech game where you have to fight even bigger Kaiju.
The sense of scale being very important if not the most important factor, maybe I can get out of the mech for certain missions, but ultimately destruction and detail in the environment should be a must.
Good mech and Kaiju design is a given of course.
I want to feel powerful when fighting against regular troops and other mechs, but vulnerable against the gigantic Kaiju.

Simfags ruined it for everyone.

EDF

I just want Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries...

Steel Battalion 3 never ever

>played the alpha demo around 3 years ago
>thought it would be out in maybe another year or two

>Mechs in Tabletop Battletech
>Full articulation of arms and legs
>Able to punch, grapple, crouch, prone, much like we can
>Mechs in Mechwarrior
>Stiff walking tanks that can't do anything
The Battletech game came closer than other games at least.

Attached: -.jpg (1920x1080, 232K)

Does anywhere play the Battletech tabletop? In my game shop it only seems to be 40K

I bought into the beta fir heavy gear but when i played it i only got one other person in game

Attached: Portal_2.jpg (379x720, 15K)

I bought the 120$ tier alpha access. It was great. Then the company promptly fucked itself.

>When you are shit and slow dev
I legit want to make a mech game, or something related to mechs, as least /agdg/ have a make game.

Attached: 1556314519785.png (760x839, 760K)

Not in real life, your best bet is Mektek and/or checking the General in /tg/.

I'd be pretty happy with a single player only mech game. Multiplayer ruins everything in time.

From are stuck making souls clones for at least a decade.

I just want the P&P RPG of Heavy Gear, either Heavy Gear does it, or Titanfall. Preferably Titanfall since it has combat with infantry.

A tactics front mission would be nice.

Mechwarrior 5 is out in September, Mechwarrior Online is still alive and well, and Battletech came out last year. What more do you need? That's the only franchise that has ever done mechs right, weeb cancer need not apply.

>have to hop out of your mech to find a gyro to keep your mech stable while in enemy territory
>find a really good and cute mechanic who can get the parts, but wants to get smuggled out of the country
>finally get back to base, and get paid your mercenary contract, can finally R&R, and now with a cute girl

Battletech runs like shit and MWO is P2W.

I still miss it's multiplayer, there was nothing like it then.

Are Armored Core 4 and 5 worth playing?

Don't play Verdict day it sucks.

Play Strike Suit Zero Director's Cut!

youtube.com/watch?v=BLIAS3HjfoA

There's a game called MAV that's supposed to be a clone of this, I haven't played either
For the life of me I can't find a torrent for this

I love mechs but I can't stand mechs that carry the gun in their "hands" that part always seemed more autistic than the rest of it to me.

What's the best order to play armored core games in?

I'm sad Hawken failed miserably. The cockpits and movement were so immersive. Fun game died too soon.

Any other decent mech games around? Considering trying the Battletech game.

please do not encourage people into playing a shittier version of a great game

I have that game! Though it mostly collects dust in my closet and I only play it once a year maybe. Still fun, wish there was more missions.

How is it worse?

numereological

PS1 trilogy
2,skip Another Age
3 then Silent Line
Nexus then Last Raven
If you want to start at the best point I'd start at 3

>playing chromehounds
>i suck for hours and hours
>start to get gud
>have my own clan because I always make clans to solo games alone
>people start requesting to join I guess because xbox live is new and people are new to this shit
>after two days I have a dozen people in my lobby all with mics, and no one is being a fuckin faggot.
>I'm actually good at a team based video game that isn't a strict FPS
I got more erections from that multiplayer than I do from other big games like COD or Overwatch or something. It was an amazing time.

unfinished, buggy and the devs abandoned it shortly after release
original is far more polished than this

Because Mechs are possibly the most boring fucking thing on the planet.

Mechwarrior was about the storylines. There is a reason why Mechwarrior 2 was the peak of the series. Even though the games graphically look better and mechanically are deeper than the MW2 trio they are inferior games because the story is shit. MW3 was close but it has its own flaws.

fuck it, I'm going to keep reminiscing
>mechs are built in such away that specializing is actually fun ie. you unironically need a few fast scouts to take radar points so you can get any sort of accurate bead on where the enemy is
>lots of people for some reason neglected to even capture more than one or two points so they didn't know what the fuck was going on
>snipers could actually snipe almost across the map, but the terrain was so fucked that you needed to move and shoot constantly of your position would be quickly attacked from a blind corner
>rockets and missiles felt satisfying as FUCK to launch and hit, you could feel it when your whole burst hit someone full on and not "just so"
>that fuckin rush you would get when your team is down but you're still alive because your mech is so fucking optimized to your own play style that you know your limits and you play within them resulting in being JUST better enough than the two other guys alive to win the game.
piss on Apex legends.

>Skip another Age
>doesn't skip Nexus

Zone of the Enders is pinnacle mecha

>ITT mech and mecha being used interchangeably
They are two totally different ends of the genre line and play nothing alike.

From software is still busy sucking the Demon's Souls engine dry

Is Steel Battalion worth $500? It looks so fucking cool...

no

Spoken like someone that's never played seriously. Each generation had a meta.

Cause no game has yet to market a mech game like a car game to appease western audiences so most companies don't invest in them.
The view that due make mech games realize that the audience is niche and cater to said audience, thereby isolating it from any mass market appeal. The only way mechs work in games is if they are a sub mechanic to the core gameplay, think Titanfall or any of the fighting games recently with giant robots.

Damn... alright.

Attached: 1545967659971.gif (222x379, 2.87M)

>A car is not something to be tweaked in a garage, it is a tool meant to be used up and discarded.
What a fucking moron.

as an user who has it, nah, not worth that price. it's a fun novelty game but it's got some technical limitations like draw distance, slowdown during heavy combat and just mostly bland visuals that keep it from being a 10/10. To me it's a 6 or 7/10 game that really banks on the controller and some heavy mech or vertical tank combat but doesn't offer much else.

I wish I could say yes user but no. you can play a demo of it on xbox live, at least on 360. it plays like garbage.

Tweaking a mech/car is one of the most fun aspects of the genre. Putting it into action is also the most fun.

>on 360. it plays like garbage.
That's probably Heavy Armor, which uses the kinect for controls and was made by FromSoft rather than Capcom/Nudemaker who made the original and uses the controller.

I still play Titanfall 2. 3 is going to come any time now.

What's wrong with Nexus?

Its a solid mech game, actually, you fucking faggot. Why do people play like 1 hour of a game and then decide they're experts on it?

Only notable for all the remixes of missions from older games and fucking up the heat mechanics. All of its original content sucks.

>i want to play a mechwarrior game like its call of duty!

mechwarrior 5 comes out in September

Mech Warrior fucked it up and mechs in the Battletech setting are totally supposed to be capable of melee and be way more mobile than depicted.

Games where you play as a mech are fun, but are there any games that are about designing them? Maybe it's just the strategy player in me, but I've always wanted a war industrialist game where you design and produce weapons/mechs to sell to corporations or governments. My ideal version of this game:
>make it set in a sci fi universe cause why not
>start as a very minor designer, maybe you were a high level designer for a different company but left for whatever reason
>game could start by taking out a loan to produce a prototype and sell it to big corporations to gather capital
>progression is based on how well your designs sell, eventually you are a magnate controlling huge amounts of money and influence, designing, producing and selling weapons all over the galaxy or some shit

I can always dream I guess.

Limitations of technology. They're still good games if you aren't an autist.

some of the coolest people ive ever know i met on xbox live back in the days of crimson skies and splinter cell

Let's not forget the fact that the PGI guys are massive assholes and bait and switched people into doing their founders packs then went and tried to create some hex based abortion after spending years shitting on their playerbase.

There's people who were there from beta forward who have given it a chance several times and it's still luke warm garbage. Now it's not quite as bad as it used to be but it's still pretty bad. The IP rights need to be sold again and hopefully to not such a bunch of incompetent cock suckers.

There haven't been a lot of great mecha anime or mange lately to drive hype around mecha itself, which has always been pretty niche.

i honestly dont even have any hope for MW5 since PG are making it

The sad part is I would probably buy it if it had elementals in it because I have been jonesing to pilot one in a modern game for so long. I want a small laser and srm 2 to my name and impossible odds.

Because it's impossible to win.
Even the people who like mechs, like me have specific preferences, I HATE fast moving mechs with no punch or weight, so that's 50% of mech games that I'll never play right there.
Even if I pretend to myself that mechwarrior 5 will revitalize the community somehow, I know that this is a dead genre in the long run.

seriously
a good expansive battletech game doesnt sound very hard but it doesnt sound like were going to get one for a long time

mech games are FPS for people who suck at stuff like quake prove me wrong

I can accept that excuse for the earlier Mechwarrior games but modern Mechwarrior games have no excuse.

Clan lights with C-ATM's are broken at least the last time I played which was around the arena launch. Just wait for a fight to start and melt anything you can get a clean shot on. Was regularly doing more damage than assaults.

One thing has nothing to do with the other
