Shields drain stamina like a bitch. If you survive long enough and don't let him recover you win. It's not hard to beat shieldfags, just time consuming

Not him but 7 maps, 5 gamemodes, a ton of customization options, lots of weapons that unfortunately mostly feel the same (at least in their respective category), horses and a very good combat system. I don't know if servers can be modded yet or if they'll ever be able to be modded but that's gonna be the deciding factor on the game's longevity for me

It's been great for me so far. And I never play multiplayer games, but I've sunk 38 hours into this one so far. I imagine it might get boring after a while, but they'll probably update it with new shit by then. Since it's got battles ranging from 1v1 dueling (on certain servers) to 64 player messes there's plenty to do before you get bored. Plus you can always just make a meme build and fuck around throwing smoke bombs into big melee fights and punching fully armored knights to death. And then getting killed by a shieldnigger with a rapier

Already covered this in another thread but no, blocking with a shield drains stamina at basically the same rate as parrying with a normal weapon. Kite and Heater shields have a drain negation of 12 and 11 respectively, meaning most weapons will only do 5-10 points of stamina damage per hit.

MHW did a good job, but only with the HBG with the shield mod, since you literally had to parry attacks with it like you were fencing

The other shields in that game though are fucked up for sure, especially the Lance. Just crouch behind your shield and you can block giant dragons burrowing directly underneath you, nuclear bomb lava blasts, nuclear bomb supernovas, and even giant gigaton punches that explode flak all over the place and rain down razor sharp hail upon you, but nope, 360 degree 4th dimensional blocking

Here are my complaints

>chambering isn't rewarding enough
>parrying is way to easy (would like it to be directional like mount and blade)
>swings a bit too slow
>weapon attacking range doesn't matter much, you can attack from any range with spear, and it still does same amount of damage

In mount and blade, when you attack w/ a spear while humping the other character, you do about 10% of normal damage. You must attack from close to max range to do 100% damage. This makes sense. Otherwise weapons like spear are OP.

Not really. Shields are shit in 1v1s and they will always run out of stamina first. In a gank, ripsoite them or there buddy and swing at the other mid swing, you have hyper armor after a ripsoite.

Believe it it not. Moving around while swinging or being chambered helps a lot. I've been sandwiched between two make users and they couldn't get a single hit on me while I was doing over swings and pokes. just slightly turning or 90 degree spin will get you out of the way.

They seriously need to nerf shields or at least make the kick more effective

Might help to turn up your FOV, try to keep overview of the situation and see if you're numerically superior in the ongoing skirmish; if not you start backing off until reinforcements arrive. Don't RUN backwards, keep an eye on the enemy.

Yes there is a speed modifier but I think it's only for the horseback riding and projectiles. I've poked people with the pole axe while they doing mach 5 on horse and it still does the base 35. But when throwing a short spear it'll instantly kill them if they charging at you.

I do think the swing speed is okay, if you made it faster but also made parry need a directional response, combat would be really hard, which is not exactly a complaint obviously.

The 'range' with spears and stuff is really pissing me off, and was something I loved about M&B. You even get the audio feedback on different armors, and it wasn't exclusive to really long stuff.

I really hate when I'm in a longspears face and he does a thrust that physically cannot possibly connect with my body because the point is still 2 feet behind me, but it does, but at least chambering thrust attacks is easy.

It seems like the maul is utterly useless against someone who has even the most basic grasp of the mechanics of the game. Feints and morphs are useless as a good player will just stab when you try something and it will always land first because the maul is (perhaps rightfully) slow as fuck.

Yeah. The supposed advantage of the maul is the ridiculously long wind-ups, which gives you some insanely late morphs or feints, but I guess the devs didn't realize that none of it matters when you can just stuff it all with a stab.

Depends purely on how well you are with the War Axe. The main issue is the War Axes crippling range, but if you can work around that it's damage is devastating. Two shot kill on T3 body ain't nothing to fuck with.

It applies in this game as much as it did it real life gents, guys in swagged out colorful armor are more intimidating, as long as you combine it with actual skill. Its an entire metagame to get in peoples heads. If a guy is wearing lame armor and is doing poorly you can roll right through them, same with guys who are swagged out but can't back it up with skill. But when you come across those high ranking guys who look badass and can back it up with skill, they get this menacing presence that fucks with people who aren't prepared for it, and it can help you make mistakes you wouldn't' make otherwise.

The key to these games are always the same. Just never attack first. It's rock paper scissors. Just wait for them to throw rock and you parry and win. It always boils down to this.

I managed to get around the defenses of a shield fag using the mordhau grip on the longsword and hitting him from my left, at the hand where he didn't have the shield equipped and it seemed to go through, but maybe i was somewhat behind him to begin with, which is why it worked.

to be fair I think the hitbox is how it should be but the model should be for a tower shield instead of a kite shield. Introduce a true kite shield hit box shield with reduced point cost since going for the legs would be easy but it still shits on archers going for legs on high armored targets.

That's what buying multiple bows is for. Each one has its own ammo counter, so carrying three recurve bows will give you 150 arrows to play with; if you can make them count you shouldn't run out even when basically soloing wave 10/11 because at most the enemies only have level 2 helmets and I'd say about half of the enemies have either no helmet or only level 1.

Played most of day, never played before. Was fun, though like most games, average idiot ignores objectives and just acts like pure kill count all matters.

Still I had lots of fun playing with crossbow main and rapier backup.

I started out trying the large servers, but I only got about 1300 gold per entire match finished and it still took a long time thanks to the final waves being full of massive damage sponges -especially the final guy with ridiculously high HP and Bloodlust so it keeps resetting every time he casually oneshots someone. In contrast getting to wave 10 is easy and quick even on a small server, and if you rack up a ton of kills by bow cheesing then you can earn up to 1k per match. Most of the reward of the big server in much less time.

I'm not referring to this game mechanically but at least in the animations I think For Honor as the most accurate depictions of how shields were actually used in combat in ways besides just holding it up in front of you. The attack animations with characters like warlord and conqerer show them shielding themselves appropriately while attacking, rather than them using the shield like a counterweight with every swing, exposing themselves to an attack.

I purposely attack teammates who use lute, bow, rapier or spear and I walk away from them if they're getting attacked.

Shield users have to be susceptible to mind games. As a superior player, I have to have a way to fake them out and kill them in two seconds just like everybody else. Simply taking a 3 cost shield should not immunize you to dying to vastly superior players. Until this gets fixed, shields will be a huge fucking problem that ruin team based modes.

Its not like shields were much better in chivalry. If you were a high level player who could read kicks, nobody would ever get your shield down and you generally were better at managing your stamina from experience. Heater shield in chivalry flat out sped up some weapon animations too like the morning star thrust. I remember my heater and morning star combo being unbeatable even against rank 60 players in that dumb game.

Sorry, but you're wrong. I'm a top player with hundreds of hours in the game and it's confirmed that shields are broken and need to be fixed. The fact that you can negate all of a good player's attack options like morphs, feints, drags and delayed attacks while sacrificing none of your own is busted as shit. Chambering their attack doesn't stop them from just blocking or re-chambering it your way, and kicking takes forever and has pathetic range. Surviving long enough also isn't the issue here. We're not talking about 1v1 fights, since most shield shitters are so bad they just get destroyed 1 on 1. The problem is that you just don't have time to focus on a shield user on the battlefield, and if you try you'll for sure get hit in the back. This takes no effort on the shield user's part. They're immune to any high level mind games and tricks you can pull, because they don't have to think about their defense at all. There needs to be a way to outplay shieldcucks in a timely manner. As it is, it just takes too long and it ruins the flow of the game.

Smoke bomb is underrated, it's great for cockblocking enemy archers so they can't shoot/aim properly and also good for cockblocking your own archers so they change classes to something less faggy.

NO ONE is arguing shield is hard in a 1v1, they are a free 1v1 kill. The problem is it takes significantly longer to deal with them than someone using any other weapon regardless of how many players team up to fight him. A shield can just hold a chokepoint for like 30 seconds of 5 players constantly attacking him and his stamina will literally never run out, it feels like there's 0 stamina penalty for getting your shield whacked 15 times in a row. It ruins the entire flow of the battlefield because people aren't thinking "this shield guy is destroying us in 1v1s!" they're thinking "guess we gotta waste 30 seconds killing this guy who's literally just holding right click while his team is poking us"

Dodge is objectively one of the best skills since aside from halberdiers and executioner swords you can just dodge out of range while people swing and walk toward you and then just cleave their heads off. You can also sidestep stabs.

Top of the scoreboard isn't even very hard, you can achieve it just by vaguely playing objective and farming kills with catapults or horses, zero skill required.

I use it all the time. Honestly its best feature is its weird and janky rising attack. Put it in axe mode, swing like a madman into a melee and cleave apart all the idiots with no leg armour, which is most of them.

Shortswords are backup weapons. The rapier draws slower and has a worse throw, plus is cruciall four times as fucking much.

regarding sweet and sourspots, from a dev:

You can do some cheesy accels. Combined with a riposte, you can basically turn your whole body and kill someone almost instantly by hitting them when they’re not even in your field of view by turning way into it. Yes, it’s retarded.

play on duel servers, you get acclimated to feints and morphs real fast. in my experience everyone there is really friendly too and is just there to improve. the key is translating that duel server experience into frontline public games. I always get used to fighting m1 spam retards and then 1 in 10 guys will feint and morph and i fall for every single one.

stamina takes literally less than a second to start recharging, if you see yourself getting low just back off for a second. his will recharge too but it's better than your weapon getting knocked out of your hands.
