I hate GOT but even I'll admit season 1 is pretty good. There was an attention to dynastic politics you rarely see in anything medieval themed, the story moved a fast pace, betrayal seemed motivated by character and not a cheap gimmick to provoke the audience. The show coasted off that strong open until the wedding and the driving narrative force got murdered for pretty much no reason.

If we lived in a non-shitty universe, there'd be a show about the war of the roses like this, and because it's history they wouldn't be waiting on some fat hack to explain what happens next.
