Why is it so impossible to port? I dream of being able to play it on my Switch or PlayStation 4

Konami fucked it up the first time with the ps3 port and now they would have to win a lot of consumers as well, after all pachinko business. It can easily flop and porting it wouldn't be the easiest thing because of fog/draw distance and other issues that come about when a machine is way more powerful.
It seems to me that at this point a remake would be a better idea. start with 1, using that metal gear engine and do an extremely 1-1 remake of the first game, Resident Evil 2 style.

Just play it on your computer with all the fixes, it's 10/10, perfect experience.

There's legitimately some kind of weird deal where tge PS2 processes fog absolutely amazingly well and efficiently, meanwhile most modern consoles struggle with it. It's literally some kind of math and cpu architecture thing.

>1-1 remake of the first game, REmake style.
fixed

No source code.

That makes me wonder, how's the Xbox version of SH2?

Every remaster has problems. Even DMC HD trilogy and MGS Hd with the color changes and lack of shadows. SH2 was just a rare case where everything was an undeniable net negative and it somehow looks worse than PS2. Always best to play the original versions.

It's fine. The lighting isnt per pixel so it's a little "hard" but nothing else is different. Its listed as a 360 compatible title but I havent tried it.

I sincerely hope this never happens.

Ports aren't made from source code most of the time. They're reverse engineered from consumer copies of the game to make sure they're not using something incomplete. Konami losing the source code was pure buffoonery, but thinking they needed it for the HD collection was even dumber.

Konami doesn't give a shit and I believe the source code was lost. The "remaster" was built on a beta version that they had which is part of the reason it was such a disaster.

Hijinx stop.

Because Silent Hill is this ultra 400 IQ tier shit made by amazing people who cared about every single detail. Therefore, Silent Hill fans care about every single detail even more. If anything, literally anything, were wrong with a port, it would be an uproar.

The HD collection was genuinely so bad that it's hard to even be angry about. It's utter trash that shoud be disregarded by anyone and everyone. There's no debating "but at least it fixed X" like with a half-decent port. It fixed nothing and broke everything.

Konami has some kind of legal bullshit with the original VAs. Also the original sourcecode is lost so they have to use an early PC version and build on it.
Also this

Can you elaborate on the mgs hd stuff, this is the first time ive ever heard of this

Why? REmake is one of the best examples of how to do a remake faithful to the original

I don't get it, just go forward with the new VAs, they sounded significantly better than the originals

>they sounded significantly better than the originals

What does this even mean? Remakes are never faithful to the original, that's why they are remakes.

>Remakes are never faithful to the original
confirmed for never playing REmake

It's mainly autistic nitpicking but there are changes in coloring/shadows. I'm sure you can Google comparisons.

But some people like the new, some like the old, and it doesnt seem done intentionally. Whereas Silent Hill 2 there is no debate. Looks worse, runs worse, missing sounds, crashes (uhhh it doesnt crash anymor-- WRONG turning too fast in the sewers breaks it), retextured areas that dont even match.

I was trying to get across that point.

I played it, it's a different game. It's in my top 10 favorite games.

>it's a different game.
not really, and in any case it's a much better remake than what they did with the RE2 one

A game is either the same game or it isnt.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection contain the original games. Heavy Rain on PS4 is the same game as Heavy Rain on PS3. Blast Corps on Xbox One (of all things) is the same game as Blast Corps on N64.

Resident Evil 2002 is a brand new game. It contains no code of the original game. New level layout, completely original aesthetics and voices, it's a new game.
