Director(s): Shigeki Morimoto

Nothing, it’s repeated the same mistakes as the original even after a decade of experience to work with. GF is THAT incompetent.

Their approach and love to their craft, something that's sorely missing since.

>Find Heart Gold for cheap at EB Games
>Most fun I've had with a game in ages

two areas with qol changes

Been trying to play through SS and I'll be honest Yea Forums, the early game in Pokemon is fucking atrocious and any competent developer would have fixed it by now. It's slow as fuck until you get running shoes, you can't even catch new mons until you activate a cutscene, the dialogue boxes are the slowest thing imaginable and oh yeah you can literally only use tackle, pound or scratch or whatever shitty low-tier normal move you start with. Combat for the first half hour is literally just mashing A to get through your tackling faster.

I've played a good amount of Pokemon so the openings are starting to grate.

Early game for these games, particularly Soul Silver, are absolutely garbage. The Pokemon selection is horrid.

Has best girl and best mon.

Attached: 1556422828180.png (1300x1424, 1.26M)

yeah, I don't think I'd be able to play a pokemon game not on an emulator again. being able to fast forward through all the shitty slow transitions is a godsend

Desu.

Attached: 1496943948847.png (1920x3824, 2.54M)

Ha, that's hilarious. here.
I do not want to even continue to play because it's so bad. I believe I'm at the 2nd gym and they give you the absolute worst selection of pokemon to counter bug-type. I believe the only option for a fire-type is Vulpix and Vulpix is utter garbage.

>Early game
It stays that way until midgame and even then it’s a hassle to level up your favorite mons because wild encounters are low leveled.

Threadly reminder to play drayano's hacks instead because the balance and pokemon distribution on those games is the worst.

Attached: 1533037086832.png (921x521, 68K)

What mistakes?

Attached: totoko heh.jpg (788x1080, 113K)

>polished
>Platinum on the same tier as HGSS
Nah, put that shit on Kino for actually fixing its region.

But there's plenty of birds and rocks you can get before the second gym
Gen 2's early game is fine, it's the second half that gets wonky

who making pokemon on switch?

They came out when you were between the ages of 12 and 19

That's it.

Level curve that made the game way easier then it should be and less fulfilling thanks to Kanto, Pokemon distribution rates are still garbage thanks to Kanto, and the Johto region is pretty boring once TR plot wraps up. Also axed the based Vs. Seeker in favor of the phone gimmick.

I'm playing through heart gold for the first time now at 25 and I'm enjoying it a lot. obviously not on the level that I enjoyed silver and crystal back when I was 7/8, but more than I ever expected to enjoy a pokemon game again

Nothing more relaxing then listening to ecurteak city music while thinking of this game.
Man, so sad pokemon peaked here and they'll never go back cause it isnt innovated or whatever.
Man i miss gen 4/5 sprite graphics.

Attached: Pokemon-SoulSilver.png (1069x722, 631K)

I just realized they haven't revealed any new Pokemon for Sword and Shield yet. What the fuck is going on? Are they just going to dump a bunch of them at E3?

Ohmori

>All but a few of the early 'mons you get are shit
>You get Surf way too quickly
>Trainer and Wild battle 'mons have a very low level, even at the lategame
>A lot of the good Gen 2 pokemon are either postgame only or extremely rare
These problems were somewhat fixed in HGSS, but are far more prominent in GSC.

Platinum shoulda let you walk with your pokemon the whole time. Not just in that little park. Also gen 5 shoulda kept the pokewalking sprites.

FR and LG did have post game content though

100%, yes.

Some people complain about level curve or whatever. If dismiss them as baiters or contrarians. But now that i think about it i remeber grinding at victory road. Oh well at least it had some challenge which i now miss

They don't do E3 if it's not Pokeball Plus

>New trailer at E3, if not just a reminder that SS will be a thing
>More details over the course of the year, delta episode spoilers and all
It's how they've done it since XY, if i'm not mistaken.

>dismiss them as baiters or contrarians.
You know it’s fucked when just about every fanmod sets out to correct that shit.

>optional sidegame is more fun than the full game itself

Attached: Voltorb_Flip_LVL_8.png (258x390, 13K)

this is an atrocious addition but the real fucking nigger in the wood pile is fact you can't just buy coins to bypass playing this

They usually start revealing Pokemon via Corocoro and stuff by now, right?

Its too hard

nothing just a shit remake of worst gen

My only issue with this game is that they didn't fix the retarded level curve around the Kanto section of the game. Otherwise, HG/SS are some of my favorite games of all time.

here's my champion team by the way. back when I was a kid I'd grind to overcome challenges, so it was nice to beat them legitimately. took multiple hyper potions, a max revive, and a healthy amount of thunder waves and confuse rays to beat lance though

Attached: champions.png (639x957, 75K)

Unlike the other games they have heart and soul

>can use original ost
>battle frontier
>crystal element

You're in denial if you don't acknowledge that there is an issue with the levels in the game are completely fucked up when the highest levels a wild Pokemon is available is 52/53 on Mt Silver, an area you can only access after 16 badges with Red waiting at the top with a team with levels ranging from 77-81/80-88 depending on the version. This is without mentioning the pathetic levels of trainer and wild Pokemon on every area between Morty and Clair.

Attached: 1539481908802.png (3168x2336, 877K)

platinum = ????

Attached: hgss.png (2908x1947, 715K)

Red team was better in gsc

Shit's just comfy, nigga.

Attached: tumblr_mb6ju10oY21qh0ocho1_500.gif (500x375, 699K)

>tfw never played Platinum because Diamond was so fucking bad that I never wanted to go back to Sinnoh
It's a shame because there's a good amount of Gen 4 bros.

Attached: Gastrodon.jpg (236x196, 11K)

R.I.P

literally figuratively me

If only for not having half of all his Pokemon weak to Electric.

It is time to remake gen IV

voltorbflip(dot)com

the post game stuff never really bothered me
> the pathetic levels of trainer and wild Pokemon on every area between Morty and Clair.
it's this that makes me fume that they never tried to fix. every playthough for me becomes a slog for those 4-5 gyms because all the trainers and wild pokemon are 15-20 levels lower than the pokemon found within the gym

I miss weathers

Attached: autumnchange[1].png (256x192, 31K)

What's a list of shit Gamefreak has dropped over the years? Off the top of my head
>Seasons
>Dexnav
>Battle Frontier
>Walking with Pokemon

Vs Seeker and PSS, which piss me off the most along with the DexNav.
I guess following trainers, Like Cheryl which stick around you triggering double battles in an area.

Attached: 1383797951930.jpg (1000x1000, 836K)

fwiw, walking with your mons is back with LGPE, but it's considered a spinoff by the fans

>fwiw, walking with your mons is back with LGPE, but it's considered a spinoff by the fans

do we know if walking with pokemon will be back in sword and shield?

it didn't look like it in the trailers, but there will be more info or leaks eventually

Vs seeker
Union room

>Day/Night cycles, at least during Gen 3
>Dark Green Grass
>Hordes
>Likely SOS battles
>HMs
>Diving
>Contests, Milotic is a trade evo since BW
>VS Seeker
>Casinos

>vs seeker
its so frustrating that the later games go out of their way to stop you from letting you rebattle trainers

>BW and BW2 only allows you to re battle trainers in the big/small courts which are both once per day and have specific time frames where you can't fight them because a "game" is going on. gym leader rematches only in BW2 and only in the post game battle facility
>XY only allows you to re battle trainers inside the battle chateau which iirc requires you to pay a fuckton of money, gym leader rematches dont exist in the traditional sense
>ORAS only had them because the originals did, though gym leader rematches are nowhere to be found
>SM/USUM do not allow you to re fight any trainers nor can you re fight the captains

>post game
>still nfe pokemon
lmao, the only somewhat challenging ones there are Sabrina, because of her Alakazam and Red because of his high levels

HMs being removed was a quality of life improvement with both an in-game replacement justification and as a feature, is something nobody clamors for like the rest of the stuff on these lists.

DP were flawed, but post game was hardly an issue at all in those games.

too bad they replaced them with ride the pokemon with the stupid farm music

Everything

Attached: 5CH on the current STATE of Pokemon full vers.jpg (1662x2083, 2.27M)

you got a problem with farm music?

Attached: e27.png (300x300, 87K)

>The bigger fan you are the more you love Pokemon, and the more you hate Game Freak.
I would do anything to switch mainline Pokemon to Atlus' or another competent developer's hands.

Attached: 1526523422080.png (600x337, 209K)

>FRLG
>DP
>No postgame
Come on, man.

I'm almost dreading what annoying shit will be put on SS after the Rotomdex.

>Atlus
Enjoy waiting years for your next mainline entry with minimal updates in between :^)

/thread

X&Y was where Pokemon went to shit.
Far as I care, the series ended with Black 2 and White 2.

The Cafe on the postgame island.
Barry is still the highest level opponent you can face in any Pokemon game outside a battle facility.

>Morimoto.

Holy fuck get his ass back on the series.

boo hoo

Good, maybe they'll actually work on it instead of churning them out.

Why are you crying?

Right: Soul
Left: Soulless

Attached: 1544242449328.jpg (1024x1383, 259K)

Shame a Gen4 games are nearly unplayable due to their speed. Fuck everything moving with the speed of a glacier

Attached: Blissey Gen 4.webm (208x50, 75K)

They aren't that damn bad unless your attention span is awful. I've gotten immersed in Platinum again recently and had a good ass time.

Not sure why people liked this remake so much. It fucking butchered the pacing of the story so bad. Half the music is also shit.

>Butchered the pacing
There's hardly and plot in this game to begin with, and most of the story events are downright the same. I don't see your point.
>Half the music is bad
Not really?

the teams of the gym leaders really annoy me, they really needed a revamp

not entirely removed but Megas and soon to be Z-moves
boy can't wait for the next one gen gimmick, armor evolutions or whatever they add instead

Go back and play them again then. HG and SS have some of the worst handholding experiences in any Pokemon game period. Meanwhile the original had like 1 OPTIONAL tutorial that every game has (catching a pokemon).

The music is crap. Ice cave went from a dreary, creepy tune to a dorky dino bongo tune. Many of them are also painfully generic. Ecruteak city is the only one that felt genuinely expanded upon.

youtube.com/watch?v=a5mINW0JiZU

I hate the dropping of Megas, I thought they were a great way to power up fan favorites like Gengar or underappreciated Pokemon like Kangaskhan.

Man what happened to those events where you would go to specific areas and catch the rare pokemon
nowdays event legendaries are just given to you by some random dude in a pokemon center, its so lame

Attached: victini-ow.png (256x192, 27K)

We literally never got any of those "go catch them" events in America, at least not in my midwest hellhole.

I need to fuck Nico

Only problem with megas is that yhe rich got richer most of the time.
Syill mons that could them use them, and some weak ones still fall behind

Going by release patterns, 2020 is the year.

Same, and after everyone said it was one of the best, I tracked down an used copy. Do it or emulate it if you want, at least try it if you have time.

>Tfw after Platinum, HGSS and BW2 I just can't enjoy new pokemon games
Tried X, couldn't bother to continue past Xerneas, SM & USUM looks really weird and I don't even bother with ORAS cuz FUCK Hoenn.

Attached: 1456032976340.gif (171x141, 911K)

Forgive my curiosity, but I'd like to know if you guys have completed ALL gens of at least 1 version. All 8 Badges and beaten the League is what I'm looking for here.

For me it's
>Kanto
Yes, RBY
>Johoto
Yes, GS
>Hoenn
Yes, S
>Sinnoh
No
>Unova
Yes, B
>Kalos
No
>Alola
No

I really need to get Platinum sometime.

Just leaving this here. Thank me in 17 minutes.

youtube.com/watch?v=IwInqrN_auU

Pretty much spot-on.

Attached: 1510254236241.jpg (270x400, 104K)

My retarded cousin stole my cartridge and now my complete edition with poke walker, etc, is worthless.

HG/SS do not stand up to replays as all of Johto is a slog and you blow through Kanto too fast for it to be fun.

It precedes fucking gen 5 trash

>you just know

>Gold and Silver were the best! They had ALL of Kanto in them!
>GSC Kanto is an empty wasteland with Pokemon 100 levels lower than yours
I liked HGSS, but if you think about it objectively it really did nothing to fix any of this shit.

Fixed that for you.

Attached: pokemon.jpg (1920x4150, 1.51M)

So how is ultra sun/moon? I've played and beat every pokemon sans black/white 2 and it seems like I am falling off the series completely. The story and non-existent difficulty killed SUMO for me. Is it worth playing at all?

Attached: NOT_TAKE_MIRROR.jpg (241x654, 60K)

I like gen 2 with 4 the most, but the flaws gen 2 has are really awful. For all the positives it has equal amount of shit, biggest offenders being the level scaling and limited amount of mons, and their distribution. The remakes REALLY needed to address those to make the games perfect(ed).
Gen 5 vol. 2 games are probably the most balanced to date with amount of content and mons, and mechanically.

Better mon distribution and post-game mainly. Not such a slog of a start. Story slightly altered so that's going on for it, but everything you disliked in SuMo are probably present in here too
