I miss UMvC3's heyday every day. I don't think there will ever be a fighting game I'll love as much as it. X-Factor, TAC infinites, Zero, Vergil, and Morrigan aside it was perfect. The aesthetic, the roster, the music, the relatively good balance for a 50 character hyper game (everybody but Iron Fist and Ghost Rider were playable), the great pre/post-match dialogue, Heroes & Heralds, the thought put into not just DLC outfits but the color alts for references, Galactus as a classic arcade-style final boss with a secret mode to play as him. All that plus a super interesting meta to follow in tournaments for its entire 8-year lifespan. One more balance patch and another round of characters and it would be the undisputed greatest fighting game of all time.

Itsuno and DMC team were adamant about Trish being playable and were willing to veto Dante if Niitsuma's team didn't do it. I don't really get why. I like Trish, I think she's the most fun character in DMC4SE, but she's boring in Marvel.

Viper was there as the SFIV rep since the others were Ryu/Chun/Akuma all repping 2 (and 1 in Ryu's case, they even gave him an SF1 outfit). TvC used Alex so that SF1/2/3 all had a rep.

I honestly expected Rashid to be in Infinite since he got pushed hard in the story for SFV and he's halfway to being a hyper character anyway. I think his window is gone too, if there's an SFV rep in a future Vs game it'll probably be Menat (not that my dick minds, and they're both Middle Eastern so they tick the same box). Bit of a shame, since Ian Sinclair is one of my favorite VAs and you can tell he has fun with Rashid.

Both Capcom and Marvel typically use their crossover games to promote characters who have other, upcoming projects. Like the other user said, C. Viper was there to promote Street Fighter IV, and I guess they decided that she was the most "Marvel appropriate" of the SF4 newcomers.

In hindsight the roster wasn't that bad. I really didn't like the roster originally, but fuck if I knew that MVCI would somehow systematically remove every single character I gave a shit about in mvc3. I wouldn't ever complained about it once.

Juri is one of the weakest girls in the series and just plain unfun to use in-game, especially in V (even Juri mains admit that). I get that she's meant to be the anti-Chun but since Chun is God-Tier among all vidya women that kind of fucked her from square 1.

Power Stone had a PSP collection I believe. Darkstalkers got an HD collection last gen also. Star Gladiator isn't really that worth playing, so Hayato in Marvel 2 is enough. I don't know if the mecha games have any chance at a re-release unless they make a fighting game bundle like the beat-em-up one. Itsuno's sheer force of will will probably bring at least a Rival Schools collection into existence one day.

Red Earth being a likely never ever hurts me. It looks amazing, it has such good gameplay ideas, Capcom did try to push it in crossovers for a little while, and then it was just gone for good. It's a bitch to emulate too.

Yeah, the first was indeed a rushed-out Soul Edge rip but they actually put some effort and polish into the sequel. It’s not an EVO-worthy rest of skill but it’s a great time to just mess around in, very quick and easy to pick up and dope as hell soundtrack

My thoughts exactly. I was thinking Ranger, Sorc, and Warrior for the Pawns; cover the Advanced vocations and give three different types of assistance. Fighter has enough skills to cover all the normals and a few command normals plus one non-striker special.

There's still side tourneys for UMvC3 to this day, but only some get streamed and because there's obviously not a lot of money in it anymore it's only people who loved the game.

Also Infinite is weird because it's like the inverse of Brawl in a lot of ways. The gameplay was actually the redeeming factor, while everything around it was the dumpster fire. The only real similarity is they both went for shitty "realistic" styles that just didn't work. They also both introduced full story modes with cutscenes, but Subspace despite its limitations is fondly remembered while MvCi's story is a complete pile of shit, and when tasked with making an MCU-tier post-credits scene, the best they could come up with was Thanos doing one Hadouken because he got buttmad at his waifu.

This was the best voice he ever had, Infinite fucked him the most among all returning characters along with his hyper combo.

The roster was always the primary appeal even to top players. Also even though the gameplay is solid it still had some issues with system balance, especially the "Level 1 into tag for 3-5 free mixups" meta.

DBFZ is an amalgamation of various anime fighters placed into UMvC3's mold. It's a great game but it's its own game. I'd say its biggest issues compared to Marvel 3, despite it trying to fix some issues with 3v3 tag games, are not doing enough to encourage unconventional but viable team comps (only 1 assist per character and they're mostly just okay) and instead of being nonstop getting opened up it's nonstop pressure with occasional opening up which can get tedious for viewers that aren't really into the minutia of the players' actions.

UMvC3 has one of the best rosters of any fighting game, ever.
Only notable omissions would be Bison, Cyclops, Megaman, and Captain Commando but the other characters more than make up for their loss.
Plus that X alt skin for Zero is clean as fuck.

I mean, the Surge of Murderous Intent is only as strong as you allow it to be. For someone who killed half the universe on a whim he gets a significant fucking power boost from it. Like how Akuma goes close to world breaker when he fully embraces Oni just imagine what someone with strength to match the hulk could do.

Whatever paltry power boost you think something as insignificant as the satsui no hado could possibly bestow on mighty Thanos is pales in comparison to the all encompassing might of the infinity gauntlet and the stones housed within.
