Why does Easy Anti Cheat exist when VAC exists?

Why does Easy Anti Cheat exist when VAC exists?

Is it because VAC is a pile of shit and Valve doesn't support it?

user, we're supposed to hate Steam, remember? That's, like, what we do on Yea Forums. Post a wojak too.

steam abused the fuck out of everyone too you suck dicker

Name 13 occasions.

Because they accomplish different things. VAC doesn't instantly ban when it detects a hack, it goes in waves to catch as many cheaters as possible.

give me one example

they thought they had digital distribution cornered so the got away with tons of anticonsumer bullshit im not going to list examples because im drunk and cant right now but there have been plenty of times ive felt buttfucked by their practices

>im not going to list examples

Lets see when the jannie ban u boogaru.

>not hating each and every digital "intellectual property" vendor

>Dodge the question harder than a china man dodges a dying child in the street

Attached: You.jpg (702x711, 265K)

how about destroying games and then stifling conversation by banning anyone with an ounce of legitimate criticism. or by gouging players of dota bucks and then turning it into LoL for the chinese condsumer once they squeeze all their funding out of americans. how about how they pay bullshit money for media thats hosted on their site or how they tell everyone to fuck off when people ask them to be developers again. how they manipulate community market by flooding it with items that were once expensive so that people who had these items lost all their money.

give me something bad so I don't kill myself

76 please.

FUCK IT LETS ROLL

lmao you fucking niger.

these are all vague references without a single example dude
just find one

What the fuck is wrong with Epic. I get buying exclusives. Scummy sure, but I get it. But buying anticheat just so valve can't use it...how big of an asshole can you be?

they went from a company who made games into a souless corporation

sounds like you're a faggot
>waah valve lowered the value of my cosmetics

>ignoring the only answer and instead replying to a bunch of bait

All of you are children

How is that abuse? lmao you forgot your own point already.

>destroying games
what?

>I totally have a argument dude, I'm just too drunk to make one right now LOL
How much is tencent paying? I could use some cash,

Hats are not securities, dude. Go complain to SEC.

>helping marginalized people

Yikes, to think I was initially agreeing with this person

installing rootkits means i don't play the game

>i love valve so much you guise
>im greentexting so hard right now just like my ladyboner

>valve wants to port games to linux cause microsoft are cunts
>epic buys the anti cheat company those games use to spite valve
>valve is the soulless corporation

There is nothing to reply to with that answer, this isn't reddit where everyone upvotes posts.

>Banning legit criticism
Dropping hard Rs and calling women subhuman is hardly legitimate criticism(of a game at least)
>Turning DotA into LoL
They made games faster because the playerbase was hemorrhaging users
>Pay bullshit money for media hosted blah blah
I don't even know what you're talking about

>assfagots

>wanting valve to develop games when all the talented people left
All that is left is a digital store and one that is pretty decent, any other company would have jewed it so hard that people would have stopped gaming on pc

sometimes hard Rs are freedom of speech

faster games means shittier meta

they pay developers pissmoney for being on their store

they turned cosmetics into gambling

store is full of garbage there hasnt been one decent PC game on it since Stellaris

>Haha they both suck
One is considerably less shit, and I'd prefer if that one was the primary games store if I had to pick between the two
>Bloobloobloo use GOG or some other third option that doesn't have remotely the library steam has

It's weird. Epic is out for Valve. Literally everything they have done in the past few months seems to target Valve and Steam specifically while the latter didn't even acknowledge them.

Is Sweeney butthurt about something? Did he try to buy Valve and got laughed out of the office?

how about your balls drop and you stop playing video games that are meant for children you dumb fuck

>stellaris
>decent

You're retarded and all your opinions are invalid

Nice reddit spacing

>but there have been plenty of times ive felt buttfucked by their practices
Your feelings don't matter

So this is the power of egs shills...

im sorry did i offend you by not mentioning poo poo girls with lace pantys 2 instead?

If you come to my store saying complaining about my product while calling me a monkey fucking niggerlover, I'm going to boot you and that's my right, faggot. I don't give a fuck about your shitty game, they had to either adapt or let the playerbase die. You queers complain about every patch anyway, and then complain when there isn't a patch. 70 percent is the standard rate for literally every other store besides epic. Turning cosmetics into gambling was a community move. Don't buy cosmetics you retarded zoomer.

>twitter is a source

YOOOOOOO

Where exactly do you think you are?

Epic is legitimately worse in every way, hell they went from starting Epic games store and having all the indies shilling for them to now being brand damaging associating with them because of all the shit they pulled. Theres non-stop people shitting on Epic now and it only took a few months.

bro why are you on here instead of fixing your dogshit game. or are you already making Risk of Rain 3?

let me put it this way

Steam has peacefully existed alongside other stores for YEARS. There are tons of games you can buy through other means. GoG, or the humble store, or fucking Origin or whatever. Epic comes along, and suddenly there are games that you can only buy on the Epic store. Suddenly, Steam is "monopolistic", while Epic is the one literally taking games away from Steam. Suddenly, I'm supposed to believe that Steam is an utter monster while this shoddy store that doesn't even have a fucking shopping cart is making a blatant grab to get ALL of the market share.

My favourite is that ridiculous "if steam lowers their margins, we'll stop doing exclusives" thing. Steam has no interest in competing against the Epic store, because Valve isn't a monopolistic fucking asshole like Epic is. So Epic gets to pretend to be the good guy while STILL doing anti-consumer shit.

I'm not some fucking Steam fanatic. I hate what Valve's become. Artifact was a fucking laughable cash grab made by a bunch of drooling morons. But everything was going fine until Epic showed up with their monopolies and "competition", acting like all the other storefronts never existed and Steam was the one stealing all the games.

They want a slice of the pie. It's that simple. They want Steam's business.

>steam isnt monopolistic
damn dude i wish i could be this naive

Based sweeney putting lunixkeks on their place

then there's this colossal faggot

You don't know what a monopoly is

I want all of you epic shilling retards to explain to me why Windows deserves a monopoly, and why Epic still isn't supporting any kind of linux builds for their games. All their talk of breaking up monopolies, and they gladly suck up to the biggest one of all.

Explain how steam is a monopoly
Devs that release on steam can sell their game on other platforms and stores without consequence

my bad i forgot that technicalities makes the problems go away

Neither you do, retard

I don't get it, why are you people celebrating something bad? Sure you don't have to like Valve or Steam but why aren't you on their side in this battle? Epic is worse in every possible metric you list, Epic doesn't have criticism because it lacks user reviews, Epic literally runs off fortnight and doesn't make games, Epic has worse custom service, a worse client, and worse selection without even touching upon their shady business practices and anti consumer copyright bullshit that should have fucking ended with paramount v united states.
I would totally understand the argument if epic had a better launcher and store than Valve, but they don't, They are objectively worse in every possible way and you retards are perfectly willing to shoot yourself in the goddamn foot just to spite some anonymous internet poster whom you will literally never see.

>epic making sure anti-consumer technology says on windows
based

Attached: 1486297170-risi.png (2048x2304, 3.43M)

You think steam us monopolistic? If Epic succeeds they will be the worst version of a corporate monopoly you can ever think of that. you would beg for steams "monopoly"

Literally the same person. You're all arguing with one slant eyed person.

I have never once heard of Steam paying to have games exclusively on their store. GoG exists. Origin exists. Uplay exists. You don't have to buy your shit from Steam, you can buy it from other sites. Keysellers, Humble Store. You can take your games that AREN'T on Steam and run them with full Steam integration, if you want that for some reason.

By contrast, Epic just bought Rocket League and is making them take the game off Steam in order to try and force you to buy it from their store.

Please explain how steam is a monopoly
Otherwise tell us how much epic pays you

>getting triggered by tweets

Attached: LAUGH-.gif (391x365, 712K)

because its only hypocrisy when everyone else does it. this isn't a problem with management this is a problem with the way retards with no moral compass who live in the west think like.

at least it's not punkbuster....god that system always hated my PC no matter how many times I update that.

What epic is doing is trying to become a monopoly and they already are on the pc games they are making exclusive on their store. By specifically disallowing games to be sold on another store, they are creating a monopoly on that game

>playing ASSFAGGOTS
>getting mad when ASSFAGGOTS updates to include stuff you don't like

lesser of two evils fallacy

Is this your first day on Yea Forums?
This crap has been common for years

Attached: where do you think we are.jpg (700x525, 231K)

shut up my duder, my bitchman

1. Steam doesn't own the entire PC market
2. Steam doesn't even own the entire digital PC market
3. Steam doesn't even offer exclusivity contracts
4. Developers aren't forced to use Steams DRM
The fact that developers and consumer CHOOSE INDEPENDENTLY to use steam out of convenience does not make a monopoly.

i want them both to suffer

That fallacy only applies if you're claiming Steam is good. It's not fallacious to claim that since Epic is worse than Valve, you shouldn't support Epic if you aren't supporting Valve.

Epic has turned into this caricature of a supervillain you find in dystopian fiction.
>runs around doing all kinds of despicable things
>uses the media to convince people they are the good guys

>epic makes an absolute cunt of a move
>but valve did something sometime but I'm not going to tell you about it

in the words of niggers now a days take the L my dude, you lost.

Vac is for source games only dipshit

they either use steam or face trash amounts of sales. the reason valve has a monopoly is because of consumer confidence. millions upon millions of people have installed steam while most would never even bother to download uplay.

These threads are full of literal blatant shills. Notice noone defending epic and trashing steam ever mentions GoG, or Origin, or Uplay or just being DRM free....they don't even understand the conversation at hand. They're just brand loyal to the chinks.

>fallacy
Since when is the lesser of two evils a fallacy?

>fallacy
fal·la·cy
/ˈfaləsē/
noun
noun: fallacy; plural noun: fallacies

a mistaken belief, especially one based on unsound argument.

>or face trash amounts of sales
A fucking top down space sim that is the most niche game ever has been able to survive and thrive without steam. Check-fucking-mate atheist.

Console wars bullshit isn't even close to how unbelievably stupid this is. I can't even think of anything analogous to it without coming off as a retard. I don't get it, at least with most shitposting there is some thread of logic, some people legitimately enjoy shit. I could even understand people trying to protect Bioware over mass effect 3's ending here, but I cannot and will never understand this.

>epic is good
>why?
>because steam is worse

Lesser of two evils fallacy. :)))))))

You're legitimately blind if you don't see that Epic is gearing up to be the "evil monopoly" steam supposedly is. For all of Steams faults how they were back THEN is nowhere near as awful as what Epic is trying to pull here and now.

Did I ask you for the definition of a fallacy anywhere in my post? How is "the lesser of two evils" a fallacy?

That's not a monopoly, not even slightly, not on a theoretical or practical level. If you were to sell more products through Walmart than target, that doesn't mean Walmart has a monopoly...seriously educate yourself on what a monopoly is. If you want to argue that digital sales on PC have become an oligarchy in which you have to partner up to see decent sales through origin, or Uplay, or blizzard, or steam, or epic, we might have a discussion here. But unfortunately you're fucking retarded

Remind me, how many millions has star citizen brought in?

holy fuck you guys still dont understand! I want them both to fuck themselves into in irredeemable pile of husky shit where they both go to hell.

>All those years of mustardraces making fun of consoles about exclusivity

Good thing I don't have to deal with all that crap

Attached: laughing cheetah.jpg (640x427, 21K)

>RARGH I HATE STEAM
>I also hate epic
>FUCK YOU EPIC IS THE BEST
>why?
>W-WELL I HATE BOTH OF THEM

Nice damage control senpai.

THey want people to stop using steam and use EGS instead. They are (rightly) under the assumption that once Fortnite money runs out they are shit out of luck IF they didn,t capture a significant piece of market.

The thing is, they won't. Steam has such a massive headstart that EPic cannot concievably catch up, especially when buying game from under steams users happen.

Steam is a constituent of an oligopoly, and not an aggressive one, either. You can argue that their feature rich back and front ends are a means to entrench developers and consumers, but ultimately what they've done is development and refinement of their product. They didn't pay for exclusivity timed or not, they didn't extort FOSS users for Proton, they don't charge huge sums of money for delivery, they haven't bought out an anti-cheat developer that was working alongside a competitor.

No, they've done none of that. They've continually improved on every front albeit slowly into a monolithic behemoth, but they're the furthest thing from a monopoly that you could possibly imagine. Even from its first breath Steam was in competition with file and content delivery behemoths, the ones that hosted mods, demos, patches, news and more. Those idiots failed to monetize. Slowly but surely publishers started building their own clients, Origin, uPlay, EGS, GoG.

And this was back in the day when piracy was probably at its community peak, most games had little or no DRM, the ones that did were easy enough to deal with, a patched executable or a keygen, maybe a mounted disk with a combination of the former two. Certainly no Denuvo tier delays in availability, so Steam was even competing with TPB and Demonoid.

That's without reducing Steam to what it really is, a webpage with a charge processing system. The client is nothing more than an instance of Chrome with a fancy front end and a couple of APIs and a notification system appended to it so you can see when your friends are on. Anybody could do that shit, any day. There's eBay, Amazon, Walmart, even the Windows Store, and that's without considering publishers self-publishing. Without considering indies could just get an AWS account and reliably dispatch their game from their own site without paying 30%.

because you fail to understand that that i dont give a shit about either of them but not only that you seem to think that by sparing yourself by hanging on to one disaster you might save yourself from an even greater one. you are misinformed. they are both equally bad.

Valve shouldjust buy faceit desu

>it's a monopoly because people really like the company and developers choose to take advantage of that to increase their sales
You have no fucking clue what a monopoly is. Steam has not ever, to my knowledge, engaged in any sort of monopolistic behaviour. It isn't monopolistic to be popular. It is monopolistic to actively engage in attempts to quell your opposition's ability to compete with you.

Steam coexists alongside GoG, GMG, Origin, Uplay, key resalers, self-publishing, and a bunch of other storefronts I'm forgetting off the top of my head.

Epic does not coexist alongside ANY of those things. You cannot buy Epic-exclusive games on GoG. You can only buy them on the Epic store. Epic is trying to quell their competition, hence Epic is monopolistic, not Valve.

? I'm not op

Because Linux is shit.

What is "lesser evil" if not a fallacy... Lesser, greater, middling, it's all the same. Proportions are negotiated, boundaries blurred. I'm not a pious hermit, I haven't done only good in my life. But if I'm to choose between one evil and another, then I prefer not to choose at all.

nevermind the reality of number those are just squigly lines and if i put my fingers in my ears i wont have to hear valve buttfucking my ass

>i dont give a shit about either of them
>they are both equally bad
You still have yet to answer how lesser of two evils is a fallacy. Also I just realized something, you're the same nigger in EVERY fucking thread claiming you don't care about either of them but all your posts are screeching about Valve and not Epic.

Kill yourself.

>Monopoly: the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service.

If it isn't exclusive it isn't a monopoly. There is no argument to this. Valve is open to competition from other stores, which by fucking definition makes it not a monopoly. This isn't some small technicality, this is the meaning of the word. If you're trying to say "Valve has a large market share due to good business practice and I think that's unfair" then find a better word than monopoly, because you are completely wrong and a retard.

fuck dude finally someone gets what im saying

>windows deserves a monopoly because linux is shit
Then steam deserves a monopoly because every other launcher is shit

gottem

Seems more like they want the whole pie and are just grabbing fistfulls instead of cutting a slice

Fuck off Geralt, you're wrong.

Maybe when you graduate high school you'll understand

If you own a PC and buy games, you deserve this.
PC is for free games.

the reason why i dont blast epic is because i dont even have their bullshit installed. i can only talk about what i know or else im a hypocrite.

>nevermind the reality of number those are just squigly lines
Please learn english before posting Chang

BULL FUCKING SHIT. You don't blast Epic because you're a fucking shill. I hope you're at least getting paid for this you cunt.

Then stop giving people hate when they blast epic. If they're mindlessly jerking off steam, go nuts and correct them. I couldn't care less. But some of us have legitimate grievances with epic, and here you are shouting "YOU'RE JUST A VALVE COCKSUCKER". That's poisonous to actual discussion.

come to my house nigger i'll show you then once im done you can suck my dick retard

Hey man, you don't know about being dead either, and considering where you are right now I would hazard a guess that your life isn't too great. Therefor, I would suggest you blast yourself with a shotgun since apparently you can't criticize or think badly of things you personally haven't experienced.

Well, yeah. They want a slice of the pie, that being the entirety of Valve's slice. I guess it's not a great expression to describe the situation.

Show me what, your dragon dildo collection? I hope they impale you to death.

I don't give a shit where I have to buy games so I dont care who has a monopoly. I'm here to point out Linux is shit and always has been and only literally autistic retards and pedophiles use it

why is everyone so mean to me

that's fine and all, but it really only pertains to the quality of their storefront. You can still talk about their public actions, like buying Rocket League exclusivity. You don't need the store installed to do that.

Based Epic absolutly DESTROYING steamcucks and faggot ass "third option" babies. Use a real OS you fucking manbabies. Meanwhile I'LL be enjoying the new Metro and Rocket League on my epic PC with the rest of my Epic bros. Stay mad losers.

>Easy Anti Cheat

if you're being honest, it's because there are a bunch of false-flaggers in threads like this trying to make "steamcucks" look bad with posts like these that don't add any substance to the discussion

if you're not being honest, you know exactly why people are being mean to you

VAC is the worst anti cheat, just look at the state of csgo

rollin for wizard wizard

rolling over this thread with no survivors

Weren't epic the ones who bitched about windows becoming a walled garden?
Also why do people seem so opposed to Foss?

That will never be true as long as Punkbuster was ever something that existed.

Of course it is, China benefits more if only people outside their country and wasting money. Don't get high on your own supply.

Any chance this means EAC will get pulled from steam games? Because that piece of crap is the only thing standing between me and modding fighterz while staying online.

Attached: semperfect.png (409x343, 184K)

That is far from true, Dying Light uses it.

you know what? I'm okay with anything
literally anything

Oh shit my bad sorry

I'm glad both EGS and Steam are getting shit on

Microsoft was trying to force developers to sell through their store with no choice, which is a big problem since Microsoft was going to do that by changing how Windows works to accommodate their plan. It was an extremely different scenario compared to what Epic is doing.

Come on, chinaman. At least try to sound convincing.

I meant more in relation to them saying supporting Linux is bad.

Have sex.

The problem is less Steam having a headstart, and more Epic seems to have no interest in making a good launcher. It's somehow insanely barebones to the point a shopping cart is considered a "long term goal", and somehow still takes up more than twice as much RAM as Steam does.

Attached: accurate steam comic 3.jpg (800x800, 199K)

There's no money in Linux in regards to consumer-grade home PCs. No one is saying it's bad, but pretending like putting more money in Linux support will help everything is a stupid idea if you're interested in profit, despite what FOSS supporters will try to tell you.

Shill
boards.fireden.net/v/search/image/E9dkcEzEIBfx31kITHcSoQ==/

VACnet had hackers scared. I don't know why they confine it to just overwatch rather than letting it monitor players in real time

I wouldn't say it's dumb to support especially now as we are reaching a turning point where a lot of people are unwilling to move onto Windows 10.

I'm glad this is a shill edit. I would have been actually upset with someone had actually made that comic, I wouldn't be able to understand how someone so unfathomably stupid could learn to draw.

at least with punkbuster you can get banned if you're not cheating

yo chang get that chong dick out of yo gay mofo mouf and learn you some histry

It's so exclusive, you can gen keys for your game free to market and distribute yourself.

So Exclusive!

>dude this rental store is so much better
they're both shit and pc gamers are getting what they deserve, online only is always cancer and they made that cancer.

Are you retarded?

>retard thinks there's a difference between 1s and 0s on my HDD vs his Disk

>want to sell your game on your own site without paying Big Dick Gabe's big dick fund

This kills the Tienanmen Square 1989

>other PC distribution sites exist
>other STEAM DRM key resellers exist, cutting into Valves bottom line
You're either delusional or you don't know what the word MONOPOLY means.

>I'm not going to list examples
nigger

But Steam did lower prices, improve the store, and fixed PC gaming. Everybody hated Steam when it came out but as it improved everybody loved it. I was a fan since I stole a CD key for CS from my school and put that into Steam to, "own" the game. Yes, for some reason, my school had 40 copies of CS 1.6 in box.

Nothing ever seemed, "Steam Exclusive". If it wasn't on Steam it wasn't a big deal, and rarely did it seem like a game was, "only" on Steam although since it was the first major store front of it's type it made sense that developers would publish to it.

EGS is literally taking away titles, locking it behind their vastly inferior ecosystem, and giving you the customer non of the benefit. Anybody defending EGS is a moron or shill.

It's a combination of those and many other factors. Never underestimate the sheer number of children that use Yea Forums. To a 10-year-old who loves Fortnite, posting "have sex" in an anti-Epic thread is the funniest thing in the world.

>steal people's rights
Are you confused? Your 1s and 0s are no different than my 1s and 0s. I guess you're so autistic that you completely forgot the point of this conversation, but whatever.

Bend over.

>Small chance your physical media might survive a fire

Hmm.

Do you know tbe basic principle of marketing? Repeat a lie enough times and some people will start believing it. Just mass exposition of statement is enough for the simplier population to believe it.

On /pol they repeated so many times that holothing didnt happen that now we have an entire generation of children who legotimately dont believe the history books and claim there is a conspiracy going on.

I don't believe you can even boot a steam backup without connecting online. You still need to authenticate the backup.

>I own mine, you don't own yours
Valve can literally never delete the 1s and 0s from my hard drive kid =)

Attached: smug 674.jpg (820x722, 194K)

The only things steam has ever done wrong were
Making microtransactions accepted
Trading cards
Failing to stick to their promise of allowing all types of porn
And only the first one of those was anti consumer.

Didn't think there could ever be an issue that both Yea Forums and resetera could find common ground on, but Sweeney is definitely making it happen

Linux is very important for preservation. Microsoft will kill off 32-bit application support someday, and there goes 99% of games

And the funny thing is you still need to get their permission to access them. Truly pathetic.

Attached: segr.png (1536x1536, 35K)

You mean like you need to get Sony's permission to access them? Last I checked, you can only ever play your games on your PS4. nice ownership you got there

I pirated a steam copy of rimworld without steam ever being installed and it worked so it's not true for every case

So I will not be able to play rocket league on my linux anymore even though I bought it off of steam?

Let us see

Those 1's and 0's don't mean shit without the digital license, which they can easily take away.

>flooding it with items that were once expensive so that people who had these items lost all their money.
Good. I wish wizards of the coast would do the same thing to mtg.

You want anti consumer, I garuntee you if any licenced games end up on epic the moment those licences expire you will lose your access to them while on steam you just can't buy them anymore.

and instead of trying to compete with valve by creating a better product, they are using shaddy (and depending on where you are, illegal) business practices to stifle competition and harm consumers

>dude were totally the saviour of gaming
>uses drm
why do people suck epic cock so much?

It's been known for years that some games are steam are DRM free, so you can just copy the installed data and use it. Still scenarios like that are pretty rare.

Guess what, they can easily take away your disk digital license too

Attached: smug 2.png (770x648, 418K)

Which they have never ever done except to people who try and steal from them with charge backs.

>heh...he doesn't know he needs a CD player...to play CDs! HAH THAT IS THE TRUE DRM
this is your mind on digital cuckoldry.

Attached: sa.jpg (828x1200, 82K)

this. how is linux so comfy?

by the end of the year, yes.

>CD player
More like you can only play your CDs on Sony's CD player and if you decide to say something they don't like they'll take away your ability to play that CD. Nice ownership you got there

I know but he said he doesn't believe you can boot a backup and I gave evidence that there are some you can

there is no precedent for revoking physical copies of games, there is for digital copies however. physical copies will always work. They even work offline, unlike your 4TB paperweight that requires valve to monitor it to use its data.

How is that a monopoly? Its not enforceable IN ANY WAY. It is NOT Valve's fault that they provide a better service than EVERYBODY ELSE. Its competition. Either be as good as Valve or don't catch up.

>lol the meaning of the word I used is just a technicality lol
fuck off

Valve's service is fucking garbage. Even consoles have been having better sales.

I'm trying to switch to Linux, but my current HDD is almost full so I ordered another to install Linux on, and the box was all dented up when it arrived. Fucking postal service. I sent it back for a new one, so now I have to wait another week before switching to Linux, and that's assuming the postal service doesn't cock things up again.

Soon though.

I'm going to keep Windows 7 installed on my current HDD and dual boot. But everything that works on Linux, I'm going to play on Linux.

So is he just being contrarion to valve as they support Linux development? I remember Sweeney bitching a bunch about how Windows is anti competitive.

God damn Epic just keeps eating Steam's lunch

the site you're posting on right now runs on GNU/Linux

Every Digital distribution service has the exact same agreement, unless you really want to pay upwards of a hundred dollars for permanent individual rights to a property through a service that'll never exist because it's both not profitable and two no digital rights holder will agree to it, you'll have to live with renting

>monopoly (noun): a thing with consumer confidence
that's a weird dictionary you're using there

>you got aborded
just like this post I'm replying to!

lol.

>you'll have to live with renting
exactly why you should only ever buy physically. You own shit, not rent it.

it makes me happy that nothing i'm really interested in is on the epic store
shit, i even recently made an origin account just for apex and bought titanfall 2
i had epic forever just because fortnite's multiplat and he doesn't own a pc because he's nigger-tier retarded and we both don't enjoy rocket league as much
fortnite's now garbage because s5 killed everything going even slightly right and they're relying on weekly memes to keep adhd users entertained whilst we've not played together in over 2 months because it's not fun
epic doesn't fucking need exclusives, large sums of gamers never buy new games anyways, like me

literally just branch into making games multiplat and you'd see a massive surge in everything, halo will literally never die if xbox crossplay happens

No one knows what the fuck is going on with rocket league right now because the deal with Epic still isn't finished yet. I certainly wouldn't buy anymore keys or rocket passes, because unless Psyonix is demanding changes to the deal now, Epic will pull their shit and make the Steam version inferior to the Epic version in some way

my friend's retarded enough to never buy a pc but epic's even more retarded to make one of the only multiplat games not fun

Sweeney is a whiney jew
I've been slowly switching to linux since getting into sysadmin, so epic will never get my money anyway, but seriously fuck that retard
tries to frame business decisions about making money as moral stances, what a kike

Do you know those anti-steam posters appearing obviously seething snoyggers, who want PC gaming dead badly?

PC gaming is dead and its been for a long time. Just sad it had to go the way it did.

You've been saying that for 20 years.

No, just 10. It died once Intel killed Project Offset, since then it's just been a console dumping ground.

Attached: 1947646106.gif (480x272, 2.54M)

'call him a snoygger and see how it recoils, how it realises... I've been found out'
confirms this.

>im not going to list examples because im drunk and cant right now but there have been plenty of times ive felt buttfucked by their practices

Well good job on the angle of making a claim and not supporting it at all.

Also, most of Yea Forums/ would agree Valve is no saint but Epic was pretty much the worst possible competition, it's basically steam but worse for the end consumer in terms of rights and functionality, at least at the moment.

>defending the current state of PC gaming
truly pathetic

how do we get nips to port games to linux? it took ages just to get most games on windows, and they're often only with crapware like denuvo.

Not really. Shilling Epic vs Valve is so obvious cuz most users are not playing another game than fortnite on EGS.

I don't even care if Epic gets all the same features of Steam some day. I'll pirate before I install that shit, as long as Sweeney is still around

they are bruteforcing their way into the market on every venue imaginable, it's not that hard to see user.

Any OS recommendation? I might go full linux for my main when I upgraded my pc possibly dualboot with pirated w10 since h/w driver only likes w10 nowadays

Tried arch as my main in my laptop

If you've tried arch. Maybe Manjaro is a good option. It's basically a stable release version of Arch with some other features like native hardware detection.

Really don't need to. Proton is coming along very nicely. Alot of weeb games still have problems because they're using a Microsoft Video API that still doesn't have a Wine implementation yet, but apparently people are working on it

>gayben requires you to authenticate your copy even if it's downloaded from steam silly shekler, don't lie.
Have you ever used offline mode? I have played without any internet connection at all many times after I moved but before I've set up my internet provider. How about you stop lying.

>steam auth tickets expire after a month so he hasn't played anything in 2 years

You dumb shits I have a steam on the hard drive itself and it doesn't require reaunthenticating at all. That was a bug that had been patched like 5 years ago.

>Offline mode is meant to be indefinite

Retards.

all steam games require a handshake

Distros are all personal preference
Personally Gentoo is my favorite since it's like Arch without the bad parts (systemd), but it really isn't for everyone.
My favorite distro for if I don't want to bother setting up anything is Fedora though

Maybe like 5% of PC games are available on stores other than Steam. It's not a "monopoly", but if you're someone who doesn't like Steam then you've basically been fucked for years now. Going from 95% Steam exclusives to 94% Steam exclusives and 1% Epic exclusives literally makes no difference to me. If Epic starts taking games that would otherwise be available on stores like GoG, then I'd be annoyed.

Basically my point is I think it's dumb when all these people are complaining "Epic is causing all these exclusives, PC gaming has never had exclusives". The only reason you think PC gaming has never had exclusives is because all the games have been exclusive to your platform of choice

Sauce?

Well as a linux gamer this is a kick in the pants. Guess I'm going full valve now.

wine is not an acceptable replacement for native ports.

have you heard about phoenix point yet

How do you get paid at work?

We're talking about installed games. You can edit your profile library and add games this way. The only way to stop you from adding all games to your library is to validate it with the online servers. Hence, adding new games needs validation due to your ability to try and add a game you don't own.

But you probably would know that if you read the posts you were replying to, you retard.

You say this at a time when Steam has the least market control it's ever had. How does it feel to be that retarded?

Every post I replied to replied to me asking if they had installed a new game in 2 years, which they clearly haven't since you need to be online to install anything, even games you have backed up, you retard.

>but if you're someone who doesn't like Steam then you've basically been fucked for years now

Fair enough

>Going from 95% Steam exclusives to 94% Steam exclusives and 1% Epic exclusives literally makes no difference to me

So fuck everyone else that uses Steam and wants that game on Steam? Ok dude. Not hypocritical at all.

Attached: Link what.jpg (440x436, 29K)

>Your social credit score has increased by 5 points

Thanks for the recommendation anons, I'll try 'em in vm first and see which sticks, currently trying debian

I take it gentoo is not bad for gaming then? Since my arch can handle most of my steam library, bar some games that need some tweaking due to missing lib link when using native steam in arch

Well that's it, if they are going to force me to use windows they are going to force me to pirate everything.

I'm fucking done with this.

People keep bitching about "HURR EPIC DOESNT HAVE FEATURES", let me tell you a legitimate story about Steams "features" since people love to suck their cock so much

Back before Steam Wallet, back before the Marketplace you just had trading. I could trade you an in game item and id receive something or nothing in return, Valve doesnt take a cut.
I remember having a good friend on Steam that i played shit with, back when WarZ dropped on Steam we both decided to give it a shot before they shut down/were forced to shut down and we were able to get refunds. He brought a copy that went into his inventory and then he traded that copy to me, which i redeemed for the game.
You can still receive games like this, Steam Gifts as literal items in your inventory you can trade people for keep that in mind.
As expected, the game was pure dogshit we played it for a couple hours and alt+f4'd after we ran for about 30 minutes found a city that was waterlocked and realised that you couldnt fucking swim in the game.
We both put in the refund requests as Valve/Steam started handing them out, you want to know what happened? The friend got the refund for both of the copies.

A Steam Gift copy of a game literally cannot be refunded if its dogshit, you will basically be robbed of your items while the seller gets to keep both. You can say "oh, the marketplace exists now" but now you actually have to sell your items for a fraction of their value and give Valve a 2% cut for absolutely no reason (they own the marketplace, they shouldnt have a need for their own virtual currency) in order to buy a game.

Moral of the story: Valve is actively making shit worse for the sake of "convenience", and its not just trading/marketplace either. The workshop was built to fuck over mod creators and mod sites as "Source Mods" in the store were also built for the same reason.

Attached: 1539560545356.png (364x383, 200K)

>I take it gentoo is not bad for gaming then?
Gentoo is as good at Linux gaming as any other distro in my experience
The wiki and forums are your friends when it comes to troubleshooting any issues you may have
Installing PCSX2 on Gentoo was the only pain in the ass I've run across so far, but that was mostly because Gentoo doesn't really advertise 9999 live ebuilds like the cool feature they are

Thought this thread would be dead already.

If you want a "just werks" Gentoo install to fuck around with, look into CloverOS

So you're saying, that when I buy two copies of a game and trade you one, when you refund, I get the money back?

The money I paid? Which is refunded by reversing a transaction I made? That was your prerogative to refund?

You don't seriously think I can put a refund request on a game in your account do you?

I get some of this, but I don't get the complaint about most of that. Your friend spent the money. So wouldn't make sense if it's a gift for it to go back to him? Even more when it says gifted games not accepted get refunded to the gifter?
The 2% on the market is about the set cost of making the market. The servers, support for issues, etc. Maybe it could be lower, but I don't know how much it could b-
>A Steam Gift copy of a game literally cannot be refunded if its dogshit, you will basically be robbed of your items while the seller gets to keep both.
Oh. So you are retarded. Why would/should you get the money for the copy? You got robbed of nothing. It was a gift. Your friend got paid for both after buying both.

2 years user here. Yes, I haven't installed a new game on my backup harddrive in 2 years. I don't think I've even bought a game in the last 2 years on PC. The discussion we were having about ownership, in which one user said that physical disks were superior to steam since if steam does down you can't get your games back. To counter that, I recounted that just like physical fags I have all my games in a physical location: a 4 tb external harddrive in which I keep steam in constant offline mode. I have been able to play all my games because I have all my games downloaded on the harddrive, much like how someone with a physical copy has all their games on the physical disks. Of fucking course I can't download a game from the internet without connecting to the internet, and I have no idea where you got the idea that buying games was even part of the fucking question.

>friend buys a game and gives it to you
>the person who purchased it gets the refund
What's the issue here? You didn't pay for the game, why the fuck would you get a refund?

It's funny because EPIC games has like anti-cheat as good as Blizzards Warden.

Maybe now I can play PVP games on the EPIC launcher as long as it has good anti-cheat.

From my experience no one distro is particularly better or worse for playing video games.

Wait who the fuck uses Linux? What % of people use fucking Linux?

>Why can't I download a game while in offline mode
Choke on your tongue, retard.

i fucking hate easy anti cheat so much holy shit its worse than denuvo

A decent amount of people actually.

You probably cant put a refund request for a gift copy in someone elses account but if that person tries to get a refund of the game it goes back to the person that originally brought the game, which completely ruins trading in-game items for Steam Gift copies which has always been allowed since they introduced the feature.
>why would/should you get the money for the copy
Because you paid for the item using digital items. Trading digital items for Steam Gift copies has been allowed since Valve allowed for Steam Gifts to be an item in an accounts inventory and for them to be able to be traded to other players as digital items.
They will not return your items, they will not undo the transactions, you will not get credited the price paid for the game. The person that traded you the gift copy gets everything.

If you dont see the issue with this, you clearly werent old enough to remember pre-workshop/wallet trading which was the only way to turn your digital items into Steam games which is objectively worse now since you have to sell 2% more to cover Valves "cut" which they have no reason for.

I dual boot Ubuntu with Windows 7 on one laptop and Arch on another.

About 1% of steam, so about 1,000,000 people

I thought they made sure to run a dying child over?

Except you just admitted it works fine. You can get a gift copy that's entirely yours, except if you try to refund it, where the gift copy goes back to the person who gifted it...

If you didn't want the game, why did you trade for it? If you wanted steam cash, why didn't you trade for it and eat the 2% for your "profit" off a digital item served by Steam?

What the fuck are you talking about? You never said you gave your friend shit. You said traded, but I thought you meant he gave you a gift copy though the trading system.
If you actually gave your friend shit for your copy, then you should have fucking said so retard.
I could understand that issue then, but I'd say that's the issue with the trading system after the fact.
If you wanted to sell your tf2 shit in the past, you had to use paypal or shit to trade which I admit I did. I fucking hated it. Now you can use the market, and just set up a trade with the person who wants to buy with that 2% in mind.
Which you should have have used the paypal system if you didn't want to use the market system to get the money to buy the game.
No matter what, it's not fun, but it's a set system to protect against fraud. If I had the market when I sold my TF2 shit, I wouldn't have to sweat bullets when I traded the shit, and waited for a paypal gift for the other guy to "protect his rep."
It's not prefect, but I see why value did it.

>he thinks that because it's on a pressed disc that the license is somehow different than what's sold digitally

Attached: 1482666506148.gif (202x360, 1.84M)

>If you didn't want the game, why did you trade for it?
Maybe you wanted the game and it turned out shit?
See:
WarZ, the game in the original post which Valve intervened because it had misleading avertising on the store
Mortal Kombat X, a game which launched and was near unplayable and definitely not stable for a fighting game
No Mans Sky, a game that had zero content
Basically any game that people refund in mass on current day Steam
>why didn't you trade for it and eat the 2% for your "profit" off a digital item served by Steam?
Because the game in question (WarZ) was released before the Marketplace and before the Steam Wallet existed . Think of any objectively shit game pre december 2012, if you wanted to buy that game using your digital items you would be shit out of luck if that game went to shit.
I never gave my friend shit, im extremely lucky that i was able to have this experience without actually losing any of my items. Im saying that trading digital goods (TF2 Items mostly) for Steam Gift games was extremely common, i did it myself and was lucky i never felt the need to refund any of those games but if you wanted to you would have been shit out of luck with the trader getting everything your items included.

Reminder that Crackdown 3 was supposed to have cloud computing until Epic bought the technology for it so microsoft couldn't use it

Then you refund it, and tell your friend you gave it back. Steam was under no obligation to handle your arbitrage: It's up to your friend to decide if he wants to give you another free copy of some other flavor of the month.

If you made a trade like that, it is your responsibility to make sure you are trading for what you want. If you were given the game through someone else's funding, it is up to you to handle your external transaction... or use the current system, which doesn't even take a transaction fee unless you're trading in digital items.

It sounds to me like you're taking the current steam wallet system, which permits you to safely and legally do the kinds of things you want to do, for granted.

Do you know of any other marketplace that will manage the transfer or sale of your digital goods and allow you to transfer store credit between other customers for the sale and trade of such items?

I'll be right here. Take your time.

>Maybe you wanted the game and it turned out shit?
Missing the fucking point. I wish you mentioned how I asked that in my post, but only answered that user.
>I never gave my friend shit.
So it was a gift copy.
You got something, refunded it for the nothing you traded it for, and ended with what you started.
>Talks about hypothetical shit that never happened to him, and was solved by steam for other people by putting in the marketplace.
100% full retard.

Attached: sigh.jpg (512x384, 37K)

>Then you refund it, and tell your friend you gave it back
First of all, your claims that it wasnt "legal" is completely false. Valve allowed for the the trade of Steam Gifts through their trading system as they're the ones that developed the damn system.
Secondly, nobody is obligated to return your items out of the goodness of their own heart.
When you had the item traded to you, by all means it should be your item. If you use it, it goes into your inventory. If you get banned from it, that ban goes on your account. If valve steps in and offers refunds, you should have what you paid for it (digital items or credit for the price of the game) sent to you, the owner.
>b-b-but the current marketplace system
You get the ability to refund but in order to actually purchase the game you need to sell an extra 2% of items to make up for the 2% cut Valve takes for absolutely no reason
>b-b-but hypothetical
Its very clearly not hypothetical if the system in place gives everything to the original purchaser and games were allowed to be refunded.

You're either a complete brainlet if you cannot understand the issue or you're just shilling steam for the sake of shilling steam which makes you just as much of a brainlet.

Attached: 1554462210185.jpg (267x299, 16K)

I was in support of epic up until this point despite how trash their service was just because maybe some competition would steer people away from using steam exclusively and eventual point them towards things like itch.io and gog, but this shit is so blatantly anti-consumer and condescending I don't even know what their aim is. Fucking sucks, EAC games are literally the only ones I can't play on Linux right now that I've tried.

This is pretty much it.
It sucks because my friends all want to play them, and I need to either go back to windows or be left out.

First sale doctrine does not work on your licenses. The fact that they were transferable as physical was an convenience of the license being tied to a physical object or discrete code. The fact they are transferable in Steam is a convenience they grant you. You are not entitled to your friend's money. In the real world, gift receipts exist for the purpose of allowing the refund of an item that was not purchased by yourself. You can get identical protection on Steam by transferring steam wallet cash, again, at no cost.

If you don't understand consumer protection laws in the US, it's not my concern.

Again: Name another company that gives you the latitude to refund, trade, gift and sell your digital goods and games as a consumer. The closest you get is GOG, simply because they invest no effort in telling you what to do with your games.

You can't flip pretty looking gun skins to get the latest release on GOG though.

>All that shit about trading.
That's the point before the market retard. It WASN'T MEANT for trading shit for actual value. That's why paypal was used retard. The issue about people defrauding or backing out was the reason the marketplace was made.
The market was made so people can sell their shit for actual value, or have the means to.
>When you had the item traded to you, by all means it should be your item.
Only that's why the games were "gift" copies you retard. They weren't meant to be value traded to you. That wasn't the point of the trading system. All value was given outside meaning at the time (IE scrap market)
>M-my 2%
this is because it's actual value traded, you fucking retard. Servers, support, and the third thing I forgot: legal. When value trades, expense happens. Even if I think 2% is high, it's a fucking thing on trading markets.
>It's clearly not hypothetical if I used my flawed thinking which was already explained to be retarded!
It's flawed because of the shit I mentioned, and what I said above. It is a gift. The other guy paid for it. If you traded items for it, then you got scammed. The marketplace fixes it.
Go be retarded somewhere else.
>You're either a complete brainlet if you cannot understand the issue or you're just shilling steam for the sake of shilling steam which makes you just as much of a brainlet.
I have listed my logic, you have listed yours.
I BTFO your logic. You have not BTFO mine.

Stop drinking you fucking loser.

>consumer protection laws
>US
Good thing im not in that shithole of a country then and Valve operates globally and has to abide my countries laws.
>It wasnt meant for trading shit for actual value
>You could literally trade shit with value with the system
If it wasnt meant for it, why did they PROGRAM IT IN?
>t-t-they werent meant to be value traded to you
See above, if they werent meant to be value traded why did Valve PROGRAM IT IN? Not only just trading Steam Gifts as inventory items, but actually allowing you to buy a gift and put it into your Steam Inventory instead of the traditional "send it to an email or friend on your friends list" system?
>This is because its actual value traded
No, its not. These are digital items trading for Vales digital currency. The 2% they take is not actually money, it is nothing but 1's and 0's on Valves servers. They cannot use the 1's and 0's on their servers to pay for their servers, their support and their legal teams you retarded faggot. That 2% literally goes nowhere.
>Its a gift
To trade ownership of a digital product from one person to another
>If you traded items for it, then you got scammed
And yet Valve allowed it to happen when they were the ones to implement the system entirely
>The marketplace fixes it
Again, that 2%, which goes nowhere? It "Fixes" it but forces you to put more of your digital goods on the marketplace to make it seem more successful or actually pay Valve REAL MONEY to add FAKE MONEY to your Steam Wallet

>I BTFO your logic
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Holy fuck you're retarded, how do you even have the mental capacity to know how to breathe?

dont forget all the bullshit they ask you to refund your money, someone post the picture please because its amazing
tim sweeney is a swine and deserves a bullet
i dont like valve either but in this fight valve wins hands down no contest

Where do you think steam wallet funds come from you rube?

See, there's a little company called Visa. They exchange promises of Federally backed currency for federally backed currency. These promises then go to steam where they can be exchanged for games, merch ans services.

Think of it as an adult Chuck E Cheese. Anyway, skip a bunch, these tickets have implied value and you're a butthurt Euro.

>Where do you think Steam Wallet Funds come from
From Valve, you dumb faggot.
>These tickets have implied value
What "Value" do Chuck E Cheese tokens have to the fucking corporate offices of Chuck E Cheese? Do you think they can pay their employees in tokens? Their 401K?
Their "implied" value to the company that fucking makes them is jack shit, which means they're taking 2% away from you for literally nothing.

At this point i'm believing that Epic is intentionally pulling these kinds of stunts on Tencent's behalf in order to destroy PC's reputation as a gaming platform

>If it wasnt meant for it, why did they PROGRAM IT IN?
>Why did they program a trading system in when they had items in their games people wanted to trade!
Really. Stop posting retard.
>The same arguement, but for money.
Same thing above, but now add the cost of value trade.
>digital items don't have value!
>the 2% they take out of the store credit that is still a form of value they accept for digital goods isn't worth anything to them or anyone else!
200% retard.
>trading ownership of an item you just argued isn't worth anything.
See how retarded you are? In this system, the item is a gift the dude gave you. The purchase is still tied to him. you refunded this gift. It therefore goes to him. You could have asked him to paypal you the money you Retard.
>And yet Valve allowed me or others to be scammed!
Because it wasn't set up for trading value. you retard. They even put warning up about this shit because of people like you and people you mention.
>Muh 2%
I listed the reasons, and yes, if there is a set cost, you have to make it up to get the whole value! WOW!
This is confirmed bait, and not just a retard I was arguing.
I get you think this was trolling if you argue it, but holy shit ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
Thanks for either being retarded cancer, or the normal cancer killing Yea Forums.
Go be an hero you retard.
This will be my last post. I hate how long it takes for poe's law to be fought though to see the truth. At least I can walk away with the smile you got nothing but you looking retarded at the end of this.

Please user. Stop. This guy is trying to troll by being retarded. This is how he knows how to get (you)s.
Walk away and pity the retard.

What is disc rot?
BTW, Fallout Anthology send its regards.

>WAAAAHHHH Why doesn't Valve allow me to bypass the storefront via trading (aka money laundering)

wtf I love Epic now.

That's pretty much one retard ITT poster.
Really it's half the thread proving that retard wrong, and the other half saying this is balls and epic is shit.

>hurr ur troll ur retarded
Literally none of you have refuted what i said besides "LOL U SHOULDNT TRADE GAMES FOR ITEMS EVEN THOUGH VAVE ALLOWS IT".
Thank you all for again proving that Valve cucks are mentally challenged.

linuxtrannies btfo

It's guy love, that's all it is. Nothing gay about it in my eyes.

Probably more if games worked on them. I don't even have steam installed on my Linux partition because the few games I play don't work on it.

Based scrubs poster.

I'd use it if there was more games on it. Otherwise I don't want to learn how to use it.
That's why I was excited about valve trying to port stuff over to linix. If this sets it back I'll still have to use windows 7, and then settle for wine when that gets dropped.

Plenty of games already work on Linux. Especially now that proton is really taking off.
I don't really get why you say you need to learn it. I found Linux far more simple to use than Windows ever was.

>proton
>didn't know about this until now because I didn't have a super strong reason to switch to linix and look this up.
Well thanks user. I'm going to put this in my linix research folder and seriously consider this. I'm pretty happy with windows 7 currently, but if I need to upgrade (Which I will) this is super useful. Thanks again.
>I don't really get why you say you need to learn it. I found Linux far more simple to use than Windows ever was.
I'm really starting to think I'm buying into third party memes, and when I get linix I won't have to use my knowledge of dos to make use of it.
I'll give linix another look after this.

me. no windows either

If you wanna play games use Windows, it's that fucking simple. If you're an imbecile who doesn't wanna pay $10 for a key, just torrent it or use the free Win10 Education edition. Most games do not support Linux, if you wanna use Linux for your daily desktop shit that's fine but don't whine about not getting to play games, this isn't /g/.

It isn't about cost, it's about principle.

i use linux and play games on it, too easy.

The beauty of Linux is that it's as complicated as you want it to be. I gave my dad an old PC I had running Mint on it and he has had far less problems just using it for basic stuff compared to Windows.
If you want to do more complex stuff you easily can and it is all well documented by people. In my entire time using it I have only ever had a single problem and that was because I forgot to uninstall Nvidia drivers before installing an AMD card.

Principle my ass, Linux is a shitty OS and most devs don't bother with it because there's like a bazillion more Windows users. Linux isn't for gaming, same with macOS.
Enjoy your 2 games on there buddy.

>he still believes the meme of no games.

I literally just played senran kagura on there and I'm about to play mordhau.

I also play overwatch and AoE II. Your memes are out of date.

user, you know nothing about linux. you can't tell me that it only has 2 games when i play more than 2 games on it. fuck off with being a fucking retarded baby duck. i don't care if you use windows, i don't care if you use OSX, i don't care if you use linux. Do everyone a favor and just shut up about stuff you know nothing about.

It's not a meme, it's the truth. Linux babies begging for native support is worse than Switchfags begging for ports. if you're too autistic to use the most supported OS in the world it's your own fault. Don't beg and whine about games, install Windows.

Linux baby BTFO
Linux user AND a weeaboo, should've seen that from a mile.

If it's the truth how do you explain all the natively supported games?

And yet I'm here happily jerking off to tiddy games, and you're sitting there mad.

he's trolling for (you)s, just ignore.

But farming (you)s off retards is great. I like setting their posts as mine so I can farm them with out doing anything.

>waaaah I want more blideo bames for my Binux
>wtf look at all the vidjo gems I have on here haha
Whatever you say.
I am teaching you faggots a lesson.

why does Yea Forums get so invested in this stuff? they are digital store fronts and you guys are writing essays on financial ethics and stuff

>Go back to the linux main page to start doing more research.
>25 different versions.
I'm going to look at mint first since I like your use of it. Since I have you here, do you have any tips that can help me keep my current files in place without having to break up my backup drive's backup to transfer stuff?
What I mean is, is there anyway to keep my files as they are (pictures, vids, etc) in the same drive as I install linux? Or am I thinking of how windows does a basic reformat to install as the real problem and linux already thought about that?

Watching cartoons and jerking off to said cartoon "waifus" isn't the same. If you still watch anime in 2019 you might as well go and officially declare yourself mentally handicapped.

>social duties of helping marginalized people

what did he mean by this?

you can partition your hard drive to keep your windows stuff separate, but if you want to wipe your old OS it's easier to just create a backup of your files and move them manually after, since windows and linux use different filesystem types.

user, you came to Yea Forums. a site for westerners who like japan, anime, and japanese things to discuss a wide variety of topics with other people who like those things. kindly go back to whatever site you came from if you can't handle people liking japanese things on a site for people who like japanese things.

There are different distributions which have a lot of differences. For beginners I usually recommend Mint, Xubuntu or Manjaro.
As for your drive you could always create a separate partition for the installation. But as you have never really used it before I recommend trying out a live boot to see what is like before committing to it.
Live boots are basically like running a virtual machine of the operating system so you can experience it.

This is 4channel and it started off as an anime website, yes, but nowadays we have a ton more boards. Anime is garbage and you should be publicly shamed for watching stupid children's cartoon. If any other site would have this kind of anime defense you'd laugh at it but Yea Forums gets a pass. Fuck weeaboos and fuck anime.

Based. Im going to use that.

user, I'm going to explain this to you using a runescape forum as an example.
Is a runescape website that talks about runescape, but also cars, and politics, and food, no longer a runescape website? No, because while you might want to be talking about cars on the site, you want to talk about cars with other pepole who play runescape. if you want to talk about cooking on the site, you want to talk about cooking with people who play runescape.
Not everyone on the site wants to talk about cars, but everyone on the site needs to accept that runescape memes, references, images, whatever, will be posted in threads that aren't directly runescape related because it's a runescape website. it's even a runescape website if the number of topics that talk about things that aren't runescape outnumber the number of topics that do talk about runescape.
The same logic applies to this site and anime. You don't have to personally like anime, but you cannot complain about people posting anime on Yea Forums because Yea Forums is a website for people who like anime/japanese culture to talk about the other various topics here. Remember, you came here to a site with common interests you don't agree with. It's not our fault you don't fit in.
Please go back to whatever site you came from.

Ofc the weeb also plays RuneScape.
Go and post more laughing_santania.gifs on /g/ faggot.

Seconding Manjaro, it literally just works. Like, install, done. And the best part is that you get the aur.

i like antergos for that same reason.

AUR is truly a gift. I don't think I can ever go back to Windows when something so convenient exists.

Fuck. So it's everything I feared. Well. Can't avoid that I guess. Even more about having to convert things for the file types. I might stay on windows longer, but I'll at least do the research into which linux system I want. I'm not ready for the time needed to do this properly right now. Thanks though user.

>convert things for file types
what? no no, linux can handle whatever file types fine. just try it out on a live CD first and you'll see what i mean.

Now that live boot I'll look into as well. Give me a taste to see if I do want to switch quickly badly enough. Thanks for the narrowing down of choices to search though first.

Right. Ok. That I can do without issue.

You'd be surprised how close Proton is to native for the games that run on it. Neir runs at 98% speed. Basically, it's the fucking same.

>And this was back in the day when piracy was probably at its community peak, most games had little or no DRM, the ones that did were easy enough to deal with, a patched executable or a keygen, maybe a mounted disk with a combination of the former two.
This is what they ruined and this is why I dislike them.

Steam:

>Accelerated the death of physical media
>So easy retards could get into it, thus infesting PC gaming with normalfags
>Devalued PC games to such an extreme that consoles gained more foothold and power as on top of Steam's 30%, most people just wait for sales

Epic:

>Is just buying everything with their chinaman dollars

Fuck both of them.

>he doesn't remember shit like securom that would literally destroy your hardware
Keep revisioning faggot.

Linux FUCKING sucks as a desktop though.
inb4 Linux trannies crawl out of the woodwork

Was it securom where you could only install a game 3 times?

>free software lives rent free in his head

don't feed the faggot

>Those STEAM guys sure are way ahead... How do we catch up...?
>I got it. We can get more people by buying anticheat that works for Linux, that we don't even support!
>What next... What if we buy an eight year old game and ONLY sell it on our store?
>hahaha, not long now.

They ruined comfy pirating. Securerom was shit but not much different from Denuvo, well maybe just a bit worse.

How did steam ruin it.

I just miss isos. Fuck off.

You can still get them though...

I don't even play games anymore I just collect trading cards. Any other bros here like me?

Distros are mostly personal preference
Ubuntu or manjaro are the ones i suggest to first time users.
If you have a mid to high end pc i suggest kde desktop enviroment (kubuntu or manjaro kde installer)
For lower end or if you just want a small and simple desktop use an xfce enviroment (xubuntu or manjaro xfce installer)
Be ready for some minor stuff the first week you have to google
You've used Windows for 20 years so you know where everything is
Linux has maybe a few weeks of sruff to learn before you are 100% comfertable

Rising Storm 2 uses EAC, what the fuck does this mean for that game?

what really makes me think is that the 'throwing shit at Steam' trend started months earlier with journalists, particularly over Steam's lack of censorship
given the integrity of game journos, i really wouldn't be surprised if it turned out Sweeney paid them to generate outrage before the Epic store swinged into action

what do you mean?
every game i pirate is in image file format

Yeah but it's not an image of an actual disc it's just the steam files with a custom installed made by the release group. I like the keygen music at least.

>or how they tell everyone to fuck off when people ask them to be developers again
>They're not allowed to stop developing games because I said so
You sound like a manchild.

what's the fucking difference?
do you even get a disk when you buy a physical copy of a PC game?

Well for all intents and purposes it's the same. You can still use that for archival. It's just that you're archiving some mumbo jumbo that the release group concocted and you trust how much they tampered with it, if they didn't compress something, or cut something or fuck up something. It used to be that isos were 1:1 retail disc images. It was the same as popping the disc in and installing with just a crack and keygen added within the iso. You were sure to get the same product or experience like retail. It's not necessarily Steam the culprit but the general switch to digital that caused it, but Steam had a big part in that. I wish we still had discs on PC and we used Blu-Rays instead.

I've seen bugs in the pirated version that weren't in the retail one and it wasn't just a matter of patch version, both were latest version.

VAC is expensive. That's the only reason.

It's literally free

leaving to canada? so a good choice then?

True, only those in the top 0.1% of intelligence use Linux. It tends to be rather lonely at the top.
