I rocked this team just because I thought they were cool, Vincent was a mute horror movie monster reference machine and Cid was just an angry shit talker who ran funny. Mixed with Clouds bipolar switch from stoic to bumbly friendly I thought it made the best 90s cop sitcom team ever.

Then that character would be Vincent after he gets over 65,000 or so kills because he can damage overflow everything in one hit with Death Penalty.

And if anything I'd say it's that effort that proves Tifa isn't garbage because the speedrunners are dedicated to finding what works best given the constraint of using what they can get by using up the least amount of time possible.

Used Cloud, Cid, and Vincent during my first playthrough since they were cool. Afterwards I dropped Vincent because his limit is just so awful and his damage is kind of crap. Least he can be a good mage. Red XIII is pretty nice for mid game, but I find he falls off later on and usually get rid of him when I get Yuffie.

I put mystile + MP absorb on Vincent and he can spam Ultima from the backrow all day. Sure it's not optimal but pretty fun.

None of those things you've mentioned give you guaranteed critical damage and the ability to add any support materia to the deathblow command using multiple deathblow materia. You can also do this with Vincent once you get the Sniper CR in Nibelheim mountains.
