most of these examples have too much visual noise in them to really work in a setting where character and world has to move. it looks nice static but wouldn't work as a game.

xiii has a very sparse and controlled design. its thick contours separates elements from one another quite controlled.
i'm guessing they will use field blur to control the elements from one another but yes that is really cluttered with visual noise

I actually saw a game like this the other day I forgot the name but there is definitely cal arts animator working on it due to how the characters look.

Halo artwork is hyperreal. They should have at least one game with DOOM levels of cartoon violence.

It could work. Deus Ex is clumsy and cluttered too, but it manages to fit the atmosphere they've created.

I can't gush enough about how much I adore TF2's artstyle. Everything that inspired the base game (minus all the hats and crap) is pure gold and I wish more games took note of their methods when trying to create a world for their game.

And I'm not talking just cartoony. People compare TF2's artstyle to shit like Overwatch and Fortnite for having a cartoony artstyle and that's not what I'm referring to here. I'm talking about the keen eye for periodic architecture and aesthetics. Visual gags that aren't incredibly blatant and obvious, but still fitting for the setting itself. That vaguely painted feel that the scenery has. The very distinct figures and silhouettes that every individual mercenary has. Their clothing and gear very clearly resembling their roles and abilities. Their bodies representing their attitudes and personalities. The creative way they went about implementing Pyroland into existing maps.

There is so much soul crammed into this game and its art direction. It shows that you can make a creative artstyle in a FPS game that isn't visually cluttered, distracting, or difficult to navigate.

it was still cel shaded in the E3 reveal, basically the only difference is lighting between the two. The artstyle was never aiming for realism in the slightest.

There are many ways to get around that issue.
You can have the rendering systems in game add in these shading effects based on depth or fov.

Gravity rush 2 does something like this iirc
And there was an indie game about flying that had a shader that rendered distant objects differently from those in your immediate field of view.

I've seen some prototype's and animation works that capture the style and it really looks amazing in movement.

He's always been one of the more interesting superheros. Gets powers and instead of declaring himself a good person, he uses it for money, like we all would. He's just a young kid that doubts himself as much as any of us. Mix that with great character design, a cool superpower that allows for a lot of dynamic poses, and you get a symbol of both New York and the world.

Sable looks cool and I'll definitely try it out but I really hope that the movement and exploration balances out the lack of combat. To be fair to the anime, when the characters are as aggresivelly over detailed as they are in the manga, sacrifices have to be made to keep the art style somewhat similar. Unless they had literally all the time in the world to make it, to produce a well animated TV series, they'd have to sacrifice the artstyle and go for simpler character designs. And with the artsyle being the manga's trademark feature, they didn't really had a choice.

Maeda's designs were amazing, he defined what Dragon Ball should look for me. I like Yamamuro's Z art, but the soft, rounder Maeda's designs from Dragon Ball and early Z were fire.

They could've even gone the REmake2 route, it's a remake, but differnet enough for it to its own beast too. Make it like full 3D like the console games instead of an overhead Zelda game, maybe even add elements from Breath of the Wild, expand the map, but not so much as to make it too empty, add new areas, but keep the story and old dungeons, towns locales the same.

people mostly want more binds for items. you only had two buttons on the gameboy and the sword and shield took over two of them. if you wanted to use anything else you had to sacrifice sword and board which meant that there was a lot of fiddling around in menus.

I'll just say that in general I want more effort in NPR (Non-Photorealistic Rendering). Lots of games focus on photorealistic visuals nowadays, but very few of them actually excel at conveying a non-photorealistic art diretion that is both effortful and quality.
This is especially bad with fighting games because most of them went into 2.5D territory and they pretty much downgraded themselves so much with poor looking 3D. Capcom and SNK being the biggest culprits.
