At least in a human, the way the eyesockets are shaped would deflect a tip slash (which is what would cause an injury like this) from striking the eyeball. It's not guaranteed, mind you, but a scar like this is plausible.

The books and movie and video game were all fucking terrible. Read the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey or the Xanth series by Piers Anthony. Eragon is the absolute bottom of the barrel in dragon-related fantasy.

You really feel the progression on the characters, the dragon starts really weak and gets her shit pushed in by the bad guy a lot of times during the book, it feels frustrating to the reader but a lot more satisfying once she can finally match his power later in the book. It's a
good adventure.
