HDDs are a goddamn plague upon consoles - there is a reason why GTA V's traffic all feels the same speed when going fast, the game straight up cannot stream data fast enough to load the world around the player.

Bullshit. Open up any given website selling pre-built PCs and count how many have 256gb SSDs and how many have 512+. 90% will be 256gb. That's the PC standard. PC. Not console.
The amount of space required for a PC OS vs. console OS is huge and Sony could trim $30 per console by using a smaller SSD since that extra space would just be going to waste. There is NO point in allowing games to be installed to the OS drive in a console that is only 256gb because it would only hold, like, 4 games. That would lead to juggling games. Lots of uninstalling/installing again and again back and forth between the SSD and HDD. Specifically the type of thing that console people bitch about PCs for - the tedium of installs and configuring.
64gb. OS only. YOU will have to supply the 1+tb USB drive on the side at your own expense. This is a tried and true business model that we've seen used on 6 consoles so far. It's a standard at this point.

The PS3 CPU is a custom PPC architecture, and the xbox 360 is a standard PPC design.
The PS4 and XBONE CPUs are both x86_X64, and the GPUs are also standard AMD desktop architectures (Polaris?).
If the PS5 retains the same architecture, and there's no reason they wouldn't being that they will still use a semi-custom CPU and GPU combo, then there's no reason for it to not have backwards compatibility.
