Nobody ever brings me star fox adventures thread anymore

It was a very highly rushed game to compete with the PS2 when Nintendo was struggling... The original game was going to be a new IP for the Nintendo 64 that wasn't SF at all, so you're correct in a sense.

Yeah, I've been thinking back recently to try and figure out what the earliest thing in my development was that sent me on the road to furfaggotry, and I think it was star fox adventures at the age of 6

From time to time I've been thinking about replaying this game. But I'd have to get my Gamecube set up (currently in a box in my basement) just for it and I also have a backlog.
But the game is really comfy, if you'll allow that buzzword.
Starfox Adventures, Hard? I remember two occasions where it was hard: one of the Krazoa trials (trial of courage in the lightfoot village? not sure exactly) and that part near the end where you ride on Krystal's companion to shoot down four spires powering up a central tower.

I wanted that fight.
I was so pump up.

Oh yeah, that one. But there was also some test of fear/courage I mixed up with that one. Which consisted of you moving the control stick to keep a red line sliding along a bar at the top in the green area.

Sorry if I come off as harsh, The Test of Strength just left a mental scar in my head that lingers to this day.

I actually learned about this game back when it was just Dinosaur Planet. When I found out it was going to be a Starfox game I was so fucking excited. In retrospect, though, I regret we never got to see Rare's original vision.

No it's a bad Zelda clone, a bad Star Fox game, and a bad game overall.

I actually recently played through this game for the first time. It's bad. Not just in a "not a real Star Fox game" sense either. The game is absolutely filled with bad design decisions. It wastes your time with endless unskippable cutscenes and unnecessary paths filled with small detours that you have to run over and over. The fighting sucks. The puzzles are either super easy or bizarrely difficult (but not in a good way). The exploration is minimum. The Arwing is tacked on. The story is incomplete and even if it was finished it still would be pretty mediocre. The one cool premise I thought the game had was sending a high-tech mercenary team to deal with an issue on a tribal planet. I thought it had premise for some funny moments but instead the dinosaurs are weirdly advanced and nobody cares.
There has never been an actual sequel to 64. Everything is either a poor rehash (Zero) or similar but not quite the same (Assault with it's linear story and foot levels). People want Star Fox 64 2, a game with lots of on the rails sections, branching paths with secret objectives, fast paced flying, and a fun but non-intrusive story.

The old version is cute if you can look up footage of it.

I would say the SNES Star Foxes are a bit different. The whole situation is a shame since I think Assault and Zero are kind of close but still missing quite a bit. Yet their existence has led to this belief that Star Fox fans only want rehashes of 64 while they're simultaneously unsatisfied with rehashes of 64.
I think Rare was starting to decrease in quality around that time. I'm not saying Dinosaur Planet would have been guaranteed bad but I do suspect it wouldn't have been much better than Adventures became.

Whenever someone goes "why would Rare ever voluntarily leave Nintendo for Microsoft!?!?", you can easily just point to the behind-the-scenes bullshit Nintendo pulled with Dinosaur Planet, if Conker wasn't the final straw, DP being forced into an SF game sure was

He was the most generic villain of all time. Sure he should have had a boss fight but Nintendo definitely did Rare a favor by putting someone else in. If they had more time they might have even made Andross make sense.
