Nier Automata was dogshit imo. Any game where almost nothing really happens until you do the same shit for the 5+ other endings is bad design.

probably. automata has everything a game needs to become a classic, it's an amazing piece of vidya and it will be remembered for a long time.

i'm also going to remember first nier which i have played after automata, it surprised me how similar those two games are. first nier has vastly superior characters, second nier has 9s who genuinely cares about the tragedy (unlike papa nier, the only existential shit moment recognized by characters in game is when devola dies and popola breaks down), but other than that those two stories are running on the same base idea

How do you define that?
One problem I have with games like Automata is that they're not very replayable. If you really like the Platinum style combat, maybe it kind of is. But it's not the Platinum game with the best combat. And it's a bit short and has a lot of padding. But yeah it's an amazing, unique experience (if you haven't played the first Nier already especially). I'd put Portal 2 in the same category. Pretty great experience the first time you play it, but then what? You're pretty much done.
Not that they're the only games with that problem, but there are games out there that are much bigger and more replayable, I'd call them the "best" games overall.
Another problem with Automata is that not everyone is affected by it to the same extent. There seems to be pretty widespread differences there.
If someone was like "I can only buy ONE single-player game, what's the BEST game? I'm probably gonna play it a lot." I probably wouldn't tell them Automata frankly. I'd define "best" game something like this. Not that it's all that matters, but it does matter.
But if you've already played a lot of games and you want to experience something special, yeah 100% Automata. I think I'd say it's a "must play at some point" without necessarily having to put it before everything else.

I'm a bit surprised that they had the sense to give it a pass desu. It was a pretty easy way to ridicule them. Because they're often absolutists, they had to claim that the game was absolutely BAD because it did something WRONG. Or that you had to act as if it was all bad because it did something intolerable. In any case, that made them look ridiculous and petty.
But most of them are being more careful than that it seems.
You can really tell that some of them are a bit grumpy about it though kek. And they probably fucking hate that a lot of normal, ordinary people that are playing it are going to comment on it like "Damn those are some sexy ass androids.". Because it's there and it's enjoyable and it's a pretty normal thing to say for heterosexual males. It *really* shouldn't be a big deal but with the radical leftists that's completely haram now.
