I know what OP is saying by calling fear "comfy". There's something about some late 90s and early 2000s games that have a clean feel to them that's just appealing to look at, compared from how over designed or stylized most games are today. Not that they look worse but most games now lack that simple somewhat empty feeling they missed to have that was odly calming despite the actual context the game was presenting

I loved FEAR, the multiplayer was really good. Everything felt sharp and tight. Somewhere in between halo and CoD.

I'm playing back through Silent Hill 2 and 3 and I agree. Great texture work and coherent, uncluttered level design with a clear focus is easier to feel immersed in. Modern games feel way too cluttered and fast paced. It's like driving in a city versus driving along a scenic back road.
