Back in Wrath, Death Knights were, comparably at least, highly complex and varied. They also had tons of flavor to them as well as unique mechanics and cool abilities. In total, there were 4 viable DPS specs and even multiple tank specs. You could tank effectively while going deep in any talent tree you wanted.
All that complexity has been systematically stripped away. Everything that made each and every single one of those specs great has been murdered.
In Cata, they streamlined the specs. Blood can only be one flavor of tank, Frost can only be one dps spec with the only choice being their weapon, and Unholy is a bad BM Hunter.
In WoD, they took everything that made the specs good at their job and pruned it. Scaling issues made them ridiculously op at times, but overall, Frost was reduced to an utterly braindead autoplay spec while Unholy remained so undertuned that it could not compete.
Legion was the last hurrah for DKs. Frost had the last available choice stripped away and were forced to dual wield toothpicks, Unholy was solely based on summoning ghouls constantly, Blood was just boring & shit but some fucking moron decided it was a good idea to give them a cooldown that gives your 5 man party a ridiculous amount of leech, so Blood DKs became mandatory tanks in high M+ keys and everyone hated them for it.
Now in BfA, Blood is fucking gutted without their artifact weapon and its class design was left for dead entirely.
Frost had the one thing they were good at and that used some amount of brain power taken away, Breath of Sindragosa Extensions, and Unholy cannot even be called a shadow of its former self with simple gameplay, a single dumbass disease and your dumb ghoul that just passively does most of your damage. But they can do over a million dps when they get into extended mass AoE situations so opopopopopop pls nerf even though they're already fucking bad everywhere else.
