Original. Crystal is probably one of the biggest disappointments ever. It was in the works for seemingly forever, releases with tons of QUALITY and garbage character designs, finally gets some of the staff from Precure for the second season so it looks several times better (especially character design), then gets the rug pulled out from under it since the 3rd season is now just a bunch of movies that have yet to release

The artstyle went downhill and the writing is pretty forgettable. Hell, i can probaly have a fun time explaining old sailor moon stuff, but if you tell me to explain events that happend in Crystal, i wouldn't be able to tell you jack shit

It stayed too close to the Manga and played it straight, which is fine in a manga but sucks as an anime.
2010s Toei has struggled a lot with animation and it took nearly two seasons of Crystal for them to get their shit together. Even then, it's not good and lacks flow due to using CG cells instead of Hand Drawn.

It's not even true anyway. There are plenty of recurring male characters. There's Motoki who works at the arcade and all the girls are constantly lusting for, and there's the glasses guy in Usagi's class. There's also Usagi's little brother, and some villains like Zoisite and Jeadite. Tuxedo Mask is just the most prominent one, but others are there.

So basically the author wanted to do a sequel since TMM was pretty successful, but her editor and the brass at Kodansha wanted to make room for other series they told her too keep it to 2 volumes. Ala Mode followed a girl named Berry Shirayuki, who gets the animal DNA of a rabbit and cat. She becomes the Mew Mews leader in Ichigo's absence as she's abroad (Though this is shortlived when she returns shortly after Berry joins the team). This time they're up against a group called the Saint Rose Crusaders, a shady group of individuals with superhuman abilities who are using the remnants of the Chimera Anima to cause trouble. It was pretty rushed and Berry wasn't that great of a protag

The "Sailrmoon says" segments were the best thing about the dub. It was cheesy as fuck and I missed it when they stopped doing it later on in the series.

It's always been a show for little girls and old men, but rather than SJW bait, it come from a time where empowering female characters can be seen as sincere and rather realistic as well. Sailor Moon herself is kind of a dumbass that only cares about sleeping and food, while hoping Mr. Perfect will fall for her some day... An aesthetic that many young women in the West find relatable today.

Anyway, the best Sailor Moon game is the brawler by Banpresto for Arcades, followed by R for the SuFami.
