Xeno 2’s combat gets faster early on if you movement cancel and consume food, but there’s no point in bothering with Xeno 2 if it’s putting you to sleep. Afterall, the combat, sidequests, and exploration is the meat of Xeno 2.

Because a good story needs a storyteller, a so called director. If you're playing a game where you want to live in the world and connect with the characters there's no better way than a well crafted cutscene. Ingame storytelling is extremely limited and can be ruined by a million factors, taking a players control away for them is not neccesarily a bad thing.

But why not just watch a movie you ask? Because it's a role playing game and that involves inhabiting the role of another character, wheter it's a self insert or a character you're meant to emphasize with having control of the character and being allowed to decide where and when you go and do something helps facilitate that. A movie is 2 hours and you'll care about some of the characters if they're well written and have some very charismatic actors portraying them, there's a limited space in a movie for connection and exploration of the movies world and characters. Movies are 100% directed and that's why they almost always manage to be more emotionally engaging than the average game.

Playing a game means spending hours to dozens of hours with the characters and as a character. You're also free to explore the world at your own pace deciding to explore the sights or speak to random npc's when you like. This is where games excel over movies, you can immerse yourself in the world and do things at your own pace. Now books have an advantage over games and movies in that you have an insight into the characters minds and the author can control the emotional state of the story at any time with descriptions and inner thoughts. This is hard to do in a game where for example Alyx is reuniting with her father and you're just in the corner jumping on some crates or crowbaring Eli in the face, this kills the mood and narrative of the scene.

Sorry for the ramble it's just fun to think about this shit and understand why I love games.

Since this was funded by NINTENDO, I expected their trademark quality. You know, the company that helped revive video games after the great crash? I figured they wouldn't let their subsidiaries like Monolith Soft fall into the same traps that other game companies did. An entire century's worth of experience, and this is their best effort.

That's only true of the critic scores. The user scores are made up of people who can sign up for an account and influence it any way they want, even if they've never touched the game. And of course the scores are totally legit, even though sony has been caught fixing reviews in the past, through explicit bribes or "care packages" to influence reviewers. And how could we forget times like Kane and Lynch, Donkey Konga, or Driv3r, where journalists were more than happy to lie their asses off for a paycheck. But the scores are totally legitimate, right? And it's crazy to assume that these people might have ulterior motives when rating the games so high?
