DOOM plays alright but the framerate is unstable. (70-100fps)

Finished Sekiro a few weeks ago. Had zero issues though I hear there were a few on launch.

Been emulating older stuff since then.

Why would you willingly lose performance? Just use Windows

Why would you willingly let microsoft spy on you. Just use Linux.

>use Windows
But muh freedoms!

>not preparing in case microsoft decides to turn your PC into xbox jr.
Not like you lose anything for using both.

to be fair some games run better on linux than windows

You may not believe it, but microsoft ARE moving away from the idea of being able to freely install .exes on your machine. They want the apple and android system of having to go through their store so that they can get a cut of every software sale on the system, even those through steam. Maybe there'll be a workaround but as we've seen with android most normies don't know they can install their own .apks. Zoomers who use win10 machines don't even realise they can get "apps" from the internet.

It's for this reason I'm using Linux, and that I'm showing support for the Steam Play project. I don't wanna get cucked, and neither do Valve which is why they're putting so much effort into getting this shit working.

I'm playing Risk of Rain 2. It runs perfectly.

Do you realize how many people will scream at MS if this happened? It won't. Windows would die overnight and Microsoft knows it.

Mainly playing Imperator but it's native.
Also playing Warframe and Path of Exile on occasion.

lol
You're not very smart.

If you think the consumer wins then you haven't been paying attention.

WM?

xmonad.

They've already done this for some of their software. Some display adapter software can ONLY be found through the MS store and ONLY be started through the MS store

>Zoomers who use win10 machines don't even realise they can get "apps" from the internet.

Which makes me wonder if this "generation z kids are pretty good at technology" meme is real. Yes, they know how to download Snapchat easily on an iPhone, or plug in an HDMI cable, but do they actually know how computers work? It seems to me like most of them only know the surface of how tech devices work.

>Windows would die overnight and Microsoft knows it.

Sorry, but not true.. the only people who would complain are the techy people like you and me. The average normie out there would just say "Oh, so I guess I have to get it from the store like on the iPhone/Google Store" and proceed to do that.

It's gonna happen.

Attached: 1556259853084.webm (480x600, 2.82M)

Goddamn that's amazing. Tech is so easy now even a monkey can navigate it.

I need to show this to anyone that tells me gen z kids are very tech advanced.

Can you make Windows look like this?

Attached: 35463464.png (1366x768, 129K)

is this some modded ubuntu or something?
I kinda want to install Linux now

Games I might want to keep playing if I switch to Linux:
Dark Souls series
Fallout New Vegas
Yakuza series
Spelunky
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Do these games all work fine?
Also, a non-Steam game, Tetris the Grand Master 3, can that be played well?

yeah you can make windows look like shit too

Literally installed linux last week after some VM experiments. I'm liking it very much past the initial hurdle of 'what goes where and which software do I use'. Not much to say as far as games are concerned so far, TF2 works just fine but it needed some tweaks to eliminate microstutter.

It's Fedora with Window Maker but you can install and use Window Maker on Ubuntu as well.

/r/unixporn to get yourself started

Look on ProtonDB.

protondb.com/

I've been meaning to install Linux for a while now. I used to be afraid of it, but a few years ago, I started using it at work and it's not bad at all. The only thing I haven't done with Linux is installation.

I still have Windows 7 on my PC, but I've ordered a new hard drive and I'll be installing Linux on that. I guess I'll dual-boot just in case some things don't run on Windows.

Installed Pop!_OS on my secondary PC recently.

You can check protondb.com/ for the games you want to play. Of course its no guarantee, but it should give you an idea. For non-steam software you can check appdb.winehq.org/ too.

>Do you realise how many people will scream at MS if this happened?

Do you realise how deaf Microsoft is? Once people got upset about the telemetry shit Microsoft still did it but decided to hide what they were doing and only let you opt out on shit not valuable to them anyway. That is why shit like antibeacon had to be made so people could turn off all telemetry.

You don't need a new drive. Go to windows partition manager and try to shrink one of the volumes. If you get 20GB+ of unallocated space you can install linux there and dual boot with what you have.

Alright thanks
I'm still interested in learning if TGM 3 works if anyone can test that
(Links are themamecabden.blogspot.com/2015/08/tetris-grandmaster-3-download-guide.html and tgmguide.github.io/ for the resolution/input lag fix)

>unironically using windows
Once 7 is gone I'm getting Microsoft the fuck off my system. It keeps getting worse and worse and shows no sign of improving. Let them stay afloat by bleeding their dwindling userbase dry with monthly software license payments and forced OS integrated ads for all I care.

Oh and docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/inputdev/virtual-key-codes for the key codes to paste into the remapping text file

Because there's basically zero way to truly be private in an online world unless you abstain from using the internet or modern technology like cell phones. I just use the LTSC build that doesn't have the advertisements in it. I tried Ubuntu and it seems like the only difference is Amazon datamines you instead of Microsoft.

Attached: 1556483733462.png (645x773, 11K)

Some Gen Z kids can't even use a keyboard/mouse well because they're so used to tablets. They're not good at technology at all.

>. I tried Ubuntu and it seems like the only difference is Amazon datamines you instead of Microsoft.
Maybe use a fucking Linux build that's NOT owned by Amazon you absolute buffoon
There are literally hundreds

Ubuntu is not the only Linux distribution. Everyone knows Canonical is corporate trash.
If you wanted privacy you should've researched more before installing the most popular Linux distro.

It's not hard at all to be private online, but if you can't live without gmail, facebook or discord it might be a lost cause.

Someone did write code to rip out all the amazon shit though which is nigh impossible to do without breaking something in windows.

Or there is a heap load of different linux distros that aren't amazon infested.

The amazon button is literally a just a link to amazon.com
Also you should use xubuntu or kubuntu anyway if you want to use ubuntu.

Stardew Valley with a friend that is far from me, from time to time.
Works well.

It's a lot safer to install on a separate drive since that way there's very little chance a random Win10 (if he decides to get it) update will fuck up the boot or decide to erase his Linux partition. Besides with a new drive he has a ton of space to install Linux based programs/games using the native file system.

>tfw don't give a shit if microsoft knows what i fap to or my racist and sexist political views
>use their operating system that i pirated and all the games work flawlessly and with zero effort
wow that was hard

I know I didn't need one, but I'd rather start with a fresh drive anyway.

It just arrived, by the way, and the box is slightly squished. I don't know whether to blame the store or the postal service. In any case, I guess I might as well test it and see if it's broken.

Install Gentoo
I like it a lot

I mainly play fighting games.

Tekken 7 works flawlessly
UNIST works pretty well, but I have issues with sound effects slightly distorting
SFV does not work at all
BBCF does not work at all
Guilty Gear Xrd Rev works well
MVC3 works well

is it that hard to google samba or windows file sharing on google?

>All the good games work while the shit games do not
Based Linux saving you from playing kusoge

I haven't used Linux in two or three years, primarily because of games, though I do miss it. It was my daily driver for nearly 10 years before I really got into PC gaming. Been meaning to check it out again since I hear that gaming on Linux has gotten a lot better.

Or you can do what I do and install a linux virtual machine on Windows. That way, you have Windows for video games, but Microsoft can't spy on you when you do anything else. And you don't have to do anything complicated like partitioning.

Attached: vm linux.png (1582x1191, 719K)

I got an issue where I couldn't see some particle effects, like the divine confetti I could see the purple light on the ground but the sword itself didn't have the purple glow effect. I could also hear what I assume were waterfalls but not see them.

Does anyone here use tiling WMs like i3? I'm interested in trying one out, but I'd first like to know if the tiling nature of it causes any issues with games.

You'll just get black borders if the ratio is off. Use floating mode to deal with that if it annoys you or use fullscreen. Otherwise no. Shitty phonepost of touhou windowed (I haven't been bothered to map the printscreen key yet in arch).

Wasn't kubuntu the worst place to go to for KDE or did they get their shit together?

Amazon and canonical haven't been affiliated in years. They are close with microsoft however and worked together on the WSL

>running windows bare metal
Yikes my dude. Set up a windows vm with gpu passthrough.

Kubuntu got a massive boost in polish around 18.04 iirc. I think they got new maintainers then.
Fedora KDE has been by far the absolute worst experience for me.

Good thing you can check what the "amazon botnet" does since everything is open.
It literally is just a shortcut to amazon's website.

>Why would you willingly lose performance?
But user, I have an AMD card. Getting high performance drivers that work is the whole reason I run GNU/Linux.

I've only had issues with japanese porn games but I'm not sure if they were caused by i3.You can have floating windows in i3 though, just press $mod+shift+space.

Attached: 1555950683975.png (2560x1080, 2.31M)

what are you guys going to do when steam shuts down and EGS will never have linux support?

H-hey, that's mine...

Crack all my Steam games and point TF2/Counter-Strike/Gmod/L4D2 to a different master server I guess. "Too big to fail" is a meme but Valve has enough money to keep the thing going indefinitely, they really do.

go home Randy

what is the go to linux distro for newfags to game and have a good experience on?

Pirate games and/or play on consoles.

Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

I'd like to make the jump but the lack of Launchbox support and Forza being W10 exclusive kinda puts me off a bit.

Attached: 1555950602183.jpg (2560x1080, 1.08M)

>Launchbox
You can't run it with WINE?

Also: can you run Playnite with WINE? I want to switch to Linux but I just started using Playnite and I like it.

I love your desktop /g/ user-kun!

So now that I'm on linux, how do I install an old windows game from an .img file, I don't know where to begin.

That's also mine aaaaaaaaaaaa

You have paid your respects to Loki Software right user? The madmen who made Linux ports two decades ago and gave us cross platform libraries such as SDL and OpenAL that are used to this day.

What does launchbox offer over something like lutris?

Attached: 1526194496945.png (800x600, 119K)

Isn't Launchbox basically like Lutris or Retroarch?

UWPs are actually a technically simpler problem to solve than Win32 since its such a smaller API and only has a single graphics API to deal with. We haven't seen a compatibility tool yet, but I have to imagine one is brewing out there somewhere.

/g/ desktop threads are the comfiest

Thank you bearded freedom man.

If someone on /g/ posts a desktop with sub-350MB of RAM in use, chances are he wants to molest little boys.

I love Pintos Grandes!

>What does launchbox offer over something like lutris?
It's a very cool frontend for emulators, I could switch to Retroarch's desktop mode, which is just as useful, but not as pretty as this one.

>windows
>performance

i fucking love windowmaker and wish the gnustep environment weren't half-broken

I heard with a $1400 2080ti almost 5 year old games like Witcher 3 can now break 30 fps at 1080p. Can any Linux bro confirm that so we can definitely say it is the year of the Linux desktop?

do emulator run better on Linux?

Attached: 54363463467s2.png (515x621, 307K)

I had stable 60 on my 1070.

user, please, W3 runs at locked 60fps even in my aging 970.

On windows

I'll switch to Linux when gpu passthrough is made clear and easy.

if you're an AMD card user and the emulator has an OpenGl/Vulkan api it should

youtu.be/nKnhJ2CJ8xw?t=40
Seems to run pretty well even on a shitty 1060. And this is with over half year old DXVK which has really rapid development thanks to Valve's funding.

Is it finally the year of the GNU/Linux desktop?

Attached: 1556372470855.png (1248x944, 2.02M)

I like your wallpaper, can you share it?

Only if windows 7 sheep don't jump ship to 10 come January

I make wine class floating with borders on sway. Windows programs often can't deal with forced size restrictions. Especially games can get crashy or put out garbage if they don't get what they expect.

Also, proton has a special fullscreen hack that makes every fullscreen game into fake fullscreen. You will notice this by your monitor not actually changing modes. This means it does software upscaling and that tanks performance on my shitty 300€ laptop. I have to use special tkg builds with the fullscreen hack disabled to have good performance with touhou or other 2d games, like valdis story.

DX9 support for DXVK soon™

Attached: 1554392213834.jpg (650x365, 22K)

you can mount any image with cdemu. Then just use it normally with wine or whatever you use to install it.

Also, iso files are just flat archives you can open with 7z if you just want that data.

>>tfw don't give a shit if microsoft knows what i fap to

Unless whatever you fap to is illegal. Then you SHOULD give a shit. Microsoft are snitches.

They have computers in rural towns?

I don't know what any of that last part means. So if get your autism OS I can get normal performance if I just run things windowed? Can I at least change the window size?

>linuxfags are pedos
no shock there

Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distro and the most supported for things. Just use that one. Or Mint if you want to be a little different than the other newfags.

>Boomers are literally less intelligent than an ape

thats an ape

What site do you think you're posting in, Reddit?

Reddit is full of atheists and linux users though

It means that proton uses software to scale the game to your native rez if it wants to be fullscreen while not supporting your monitor resolution. All games with no widescreen support basically.

It's the same shit as the scaling settings you can set in your GPU driver for aspect ratios and whatever, just done inefficient on the CPU instead so it tanks performance on shitty CPUs. An edge case, really.
