Following up on this. I played a ret pally in vanilla while I was leveling. It was honestly one of the MOST BORING experiences i ever had in wow. ALL YOU DO IS AUTOATTACK, JUDGEMENT, and PRAY your SoC procs. That's fucking it. It's mind-numbingly boring. It needs to be fucking fixed.

To clarify I played a ret paladin back in actual vanilla circa 2006. I do enjoy vanilla, but I probably won't be playing as a paladin. The leveling is just too boring for me. Then again I may just do it because i do legit enjoy healing as a paladin. However, I can certainly do without the 5 minute buff timers. That's just fucked.

at least you can make moonkin work in PvE with a very specific niche gear and consumables to not run oom to justify your 5% crit for warlocks

Taunt becomes useless once you get to raiding. Most bosses are taunt immune. Prot paladin is shit because they struggle to maintain threat when you have fire mages and fury warriors doing so much damage. Prot warriors are the absolute #1 threat holders in the game. Druids are #2.

The only reason to have a prot paladin is for some aoe tanking, but even then, you will only get 1 prot paladin max in any vanilla raid. In Naxx you can have up to 8 warriors for 4HS. Prot paladins will not see any content unless they are really lucky, well connected or if it is an alt that is brought in just for certain trash/bosses.

Reminder that shadow priests make great tanks for 5-man dungeons, and the healing from vampiric embrace is good enough in some dungeons that you can run spriest + 4 dps

Take for example In BfA, you would take the higher dps with higher gear basically everytime. In classic, I'm going to go with the person who can perform better. That doesn't always mean highest dps. As a sham main, I felt that WF is a memespec and went elemental around 50 during leveling. Stayed elemental for some time to gather gold and gear for healing spec. Very viable for 5 mans. Wish it didn't have mana problems in Raids.

For naxx time to lolheal. IDK if you can heal as 30/0/21 but you might have to go deep resto, maybe getting away with 0/22/29 if ur in melee stack. Maybe nightmeme is still worth it for naxx since everything was easier back in the day.

All that means you are taking crushing blows, which is obviously survivable because warriors don't go for crit immunity either all the while having far lower effective health and they survive crits just fine. Now, outside of T1 gear levels where druids are tankier AND do more threat, bears do indeed take more damage, but there's no particular reason the math would have to work that way (indeed, it's as much about lower avoidance due to lacking parry than crushing blows). Lacking block doesn't in itself mean much.

Besides, I think this line of discussion is a bit silly as far as vanilla is concerned. Given the advantages contemporary players enjoy, the tuning is lax and the margins are wide: success or failure simply isn't about throughput because even poor guilds now beat their retail peers by default. It would be one thing if there was actual progression content balanced at the knife's edge and relatively minor differences would become a matter of hitting the mark or falling short of it, but unless something else goes wrong first, you should NEVER wipe to lacking numbers, whether it's tankiness or raid DPS or healing throughput. From this perspective, druids are fine.

For that matter, the discussion really shouldn't about just the raw tanking ability either: in actuality the number of tanks each boss or trash pack requires varies, and besides the main tank, you have a number of flexible raid slots who can tank on demand, or DPS. Prot warrior is absolutely garbage in this role while feral does compare favorably to fury tanking spec/DPS warriors with gear swap. This is the role where the real competition is (or would be, if tuning made numbers relevant) and narrow-mindedly looking at some individual detail like whether you take crushing blows misses the point of the #2-#4 tank role.
