Trico's AI isn't even stupid.
I just finished it as well and went it with super low expectations because people had been raving about how enormously annoying it was, but if you just give Trico commands like you would a dog and don't spam the commands then he's quite easy to control.

I tried really hard to get into it. I was instantly absorbed into Ico and SotC, but I played for about an hour or two of The Last Guardian and got really bored.

I don't even know if I could articulate what wasn't working for me since I haven't played in a while. There was just something off. I think it was how ponderous and annoying the giant dog was to escort. I get what they were going for by having it basically escort you at times, but even though my playtime was pretty short, a lot of it felt like trying to get the dog to act or move like I wanted. At least in Ico, you could just drag Yorda wherever you wanted.

Anyway, the point, as in previous two games, is the ending. It's definitely better than the mess SotC's ending was (actually I just had an interesting idea regarding the latter, but I need to rewatch it to check oit whether it pans out), tries VERY hard to surpass Ico's but just doesn't pack that kind of singular punch, you know?

Worst Ueda game by far, convinced me to sell my Bloodbornestation. There's nothing special about Trico's AI and the puzzles are terrible. That's the whole game.

I loved ICO and truly believe ICO >>> SotC, but TLG genuinely looks pretty shitty to me. I'll play it if they ever give it away for PS+, but I don't want to spend money on it myself

Trico going off to do his own thing feels intentional to me, he's a big puppy, he isn't going to be absolutely obedient. But if everything doesn't go perfectly for some people they feel like a game is wasting their time.
