The retarded zombie levels added in the expansion were shit. I want a mod that skips all of them. They’re not hard, in fact they’re too easy and it’s just a slog to kill like 30 zombies every turn. I think they wanted to make the game more action packed by having you kill a lot of shit but it’s boring.

I wasted more time modding the game and trying to get all the mods to work out together properly than I did playing it. I couldn't actually play it properly either because it would take like 10 minutes until the game actually fully booted up, then about 8 minutes until a level actually loaded.

JA2's strategy aspect is boring and not as dynamic as X-Com. Researching and manufacturing increasingly powerful equipment is fun but in JA2 you rely on random weapon drops (an enemy may be using a sniper rifle but he only has a random chance to drop it, and only after a certain point in the game will they start dropping rifles) and time progression for better equipment to appear. Also, in X-Com, you have to expand your coverage and build multiple bases to protect countries and prevent them from pulling their funding whereas in JA2 you only expand because your mines have a chance of spontaneously running out of resources.
And the inventory management in JA2 is extremely fucking tedious. I'm convinced that you have to be a gun nut to like the game and look past all its artificial and no-fun gameplay mechanics and boring strategy.

'gotcha' - it shows an alert when you mouseover a tile that would cause you to make noise if you ran to it, or if it would alert a pod. you have to be aware of the pod otherwise it won't warn you. if i described it poorly just try it it's amazing and reduces the bullshit by like 50%

Playing enemy within long war re balanced and man it's almost as glitchy as apocalypse.
One dude just spawns in a crate and can't move only shoot, The medic was for some reason replaced by yet another grenadier despite me specifically picking the medic, and the list goes on.
I might as well play the original with the uber expansive mods instead but so far I think it's alright just definitely ruff around the edges. I'll have to give xenonauts a go though. Never got around to playing it fully.
