Aside from nuclear weapons (which have probably already been tried against the Dragon, who still keeps resurrecting), perhaps humanity's governments/corporations have been trying to exploit and weaponize pawns, leading to creating its own monsters (pawn super mutants?), leading to all-out war, nuclear exchange, and the Fallout world we all love.

But the Endless Chain goes on, and the Dragon still seeks out Arisen, even in the wastelands...

Would actually be rather kino considering the team is likely to quickly adapt to the setting. Power levels are roughly the same and Australium would become another migguffin of the week for the Corps. Don't see who would become the Decker though, Medic and Spy already have their niches, and Engi would be preoccupied with his rigging. Considering the comics though Medic might jump ship, especially considering how valuable his medigun and resurrection tech would be. Essence being a thing would hinder him however as I imagine it would be shredded by implanting so much junk, sorry, I mean valuable baboon uteruses, into a patient.
