What? It's very clearly a choice because of they made for aspect ratio because a zoomed out version would look worse than the cropped version. Working with aspect ratios is a very basic part of design, the switch box is slimmer, the full art looks better on there because of that, the PS4 box is wider, the zoomed-in cropped version looks better. It's not about trying to fit the image in, it's about making it look better for what you're working with to make it more appealing so more people buy it. It's not uncommon to change the image to compensate.
