I played the remake on PSP after finishing bloodstained Curse of the Moon, then Richter got announced for smash a few months later.
P weird, though Rondo/Dx(C) doesn't get nearly enough love

Not at all. Bosses might give some trouble (especially Dullahan, casual filter right there) but it has an enjoyable difficulty. Castlevania III is way harder.

I just got past the ghost ship...death was relatively easy. Took me a couple of tries but if you use the cross to take out his scythes and hit him ay the same time his second phase is a breeze.
Only other Castlevanias Ive beaten are Draculas Curse and bloodlines.

Maria is cheat mode, the game is easy enough as Richter.

The next stage is pretty hard, is a boss rush so good luck. Have you gone through the alternate stages? Found all the maidens and Maria? The game has some nice replay value to make you 100% it. Also, Maria breaks the game, you're better using her after you beat the game first.
