How come SEGA was so fucking incredible at making amazing arcade racers?
Even well into the 2000s they were absolutely killing it.
SEGA racing games

There are only zoomers on Yea Forums that never touched a glorious SEGA racing game.
Also, add SEGA Rally and Rally Revo to the list.
I was gonna throw in SEGA Rally 2 in there, but figured Virtua Racing was more iconic.
The perfect balance between arcade and simulation tech. Now faggots go for simulation only because muh "futuristic technology"!.
>VR, Sega Rally & Crazy taxi are dead.
These games are awesome, but I wouldn't necessarily call Crazy Taxi a racing game
Every one of these games is DRIPPING with SOUL.
God I hope fucking Daytona on Switch gets 8 player splitscreen
What is it with SEGA racers and Golden Gate-esque bridges? I've seen the exact same bridge segment in Daytona, Outrun and Virtua Racing.
Not complaining at all, because it's a very nice visual, but did SEGA AM2 have some kinda fetish for this type of bridge?
VR least lives on with the Switch port being the undisputed definitive version of the Arcade game. M2 have talked about patching the color bug which makes it better
Prob just easy thing to reuse
>tfw no Outrun 3
>tfw no port of Outrun 2006
I'd buy that shit multiple times over if I could.
Don't do this to me user. I don't want to buy an overpriced system and shitty paid online.
3D outrun is so fucking good
Yu Suzuki loved it a lot, IIRC
>60fps
>8 player splitscreen
>better field of view, 0 pop in since the course is all loaded at once
>Models and texture have been scaled up to much you think its an indie game trying to look like a classic
>controls are 1:1 unlike the PS2 version
>Racing wheel compatible
Last point is really fucking rad as when they patch out the 8 players can only be done with joycons I can get a fucking multiple monitor set up going with my Elgato and OBS
Sega of America used to be located in San Francisco and that influenced a lot of titles
Pressure M2 for a PC release twitter.com
why the fuck does japan get virtua racing switch before the rest of the world
yeah, yeah, I know it's not region locked but come on now
They made the best arcade machines. My local arcade had these bad boys.
RRRREEE SUPER GT WILL NEVER BE PORTED.
Legit only downside is online is restricted to 1v1, the color bug where some red is orange which is gonna get patched. The content from the 32x version not being in kinda sucks but M2 said they couldn't get it to work with the arcade game cause they were two different engines.
DAYYYYYYYYYYYTONNNNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LET GO AWAY
So sad that Scud Race never got a home port. Or Daytona USA 2 for that mater.
FUCKING REVO!
Reboots are almost always shit, but REVO somehow turned out to be amazing.
Any fans of Sim-like arcade Racers should definitely play it.
Pirate the PC versions, looks glorious at 1080p
Last one. Playing Initial D on this was great. I just dont know if Sega was behind it.
>Daytona on Switch
don't fucking tease me like that you cunt
>Those suits playing arcade games
Is there a more stylish sight?
fucking sega needs to re-release coast 2 coast and the new daytona on pc
the arcade version even leaked and runs on pc anyway
Doesn't explain why they didn't get the additional content from the PS2 version though.
>that right side
>YA vs DU
>the arcade version even leaked and runs on pc anyway
Oh, fuck. Really?
Yeah, I remember. From the official Sega site.
Probbably because it was made by Sumo(?)
Everyone that's constantly wanting outrun keeps forgetting that Sega needs to relicense the Ferrari cars.
Probably same reason, the home ports were built on custom engines that probably didn't work well with the actual Arcade rom the switch version used.
arcade machines are literally just PC's now and they fucked up in 2017 and uploaded the entire game to some website youtube.com
Huh. That's cool and all, but I think I want the original aesthetics.
What's the best version of Daytona that you can run on a modern PC? There were like a hundred re-releases and the official PC ports were ass.
They don't need to. They've removed all the Ferrari logos in ports of the progonal game.
Bitch please as if what it cost is even a drop in a bucket.
they have worked around that in the past by making slight changes to the sprites in the 3ds and switch versions to not include the ferrari horse
PS2 version is ass.
>progonal
I really got to stop typing when leaning back a mile in my chair.
Now what about the 3D outrun games?
they could do it just without licensing anything
You could but the hardcore fans wouldn't be happy, and they are the ones the push the outruns games the most
Now I'm reminded that there are some Sega racing game arcades at my local cinema.
Same problem as Scud Race/Sega Super GT
Shit, that game is twice as troublesome because it has a Porsche.
Comfy ass thread.
What are some of the SEGA racing classics that have been rereleased over the years?
Are any of them actually worth playing, or they just mediocre arcade ports?
Well they've ported Virtua Racing to Switch, what are the chances we'll get a modern port of Daytona 2?
0%
Saying that isn't gonna stop me from holding out hope.
Idk man. It has never been ported since it came out in 1998, even when the Daytona franchise was getting attention, like 2001 and the XBLA/PSN port.
I think there's a serious barrier halting it, maybe they lost the source code in an accident or something. I feel it in my gut.
>invents z-targeting 3 years before ocarina of time
>people credit ocarina of time for it anyway
sega was always the most important in the industry
>M2 have talked about patching the color bug which makes it better
Really??? Holy fuck I was convinced that would never happen since we’re lucky as it is for the port even existing at all. Sega has literally not so much as even acknolodged their entire fifth gen suite of games in like 10 years now.
idk what you mean.
This game's "lock-on" was weird. It wasn't something you could command like z-targeting. The game is tank-control free-aim.
The game only locks on during a dash attack. You need to keep dash attacking to keep the aim locked on.
oh shit wait, it locks on when you jump too. I forgot.
Still, no dedicated lock-on control. Just comes as a side-effect for certain actions.
The new Daytona is shit though. Even on a real cabinet at $1.50 a credit.
I’m glad the port exists but seriously this is ducking unacceptable.
DAYYY TONNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
What's the best emulator for model 2, I want to play Daytona 1 and 2
Daytona 2 is my favorite Sega racing game. I dont see it anywhere anymore. I've got the itch bad.
I'm sure it will lose alot without those amazing pedals though.
Daytona 2 is model 3.
Only model 3 emulator I know is Supermodel.
Daytona 2 works well on it.
M2emulator. MAME is horseshit and can still not run a single Model 2 game properly.
Where did the... soul... go?
>outrun 2 was once on steam and I missed out on buying it.
I did get a physical copy but It feels like I missed out.
>that Crazy Taxi ayy in F-Zero GX
Wide FOV and hype sound effects/music
YOU CAN TAKE HIM
