I knew it was going to be good. It's a detective story first and foremost that happens to have Pokemon in it just like Mortal Kombat is a martial arts movie that happens to have characters from Mortal Kombat in it.

The real problem with video games movies is that they don't try to be anything other than a video game movie first since they can never get that right, the movie fails. It's why Super Mario Bros., despite having hardly anything to do with the games is still a quality movie.

The problem with video game movies is that they are usually made by people who don't even care about the material they are making a movie about. There are way too many licensed movies that are just a different movie entirely with the title character doing some stupid inane shit in the background. If Hollywood made a Metroid movie, they'd make it like a Godzilla movie where Samus on her mission only serves to break up the actually important story planets away and to remind you it's a Metroid movie and not just a generic scifi.
