Buy and equip the Hifumi Magatama
Use demons that void Zan attacks, like Uzume
Use a debuff skill on Matador to make him waste a press turn on Dekunda
Use buffs
If you have a demon with Dekaja, that's simply fantastic because you can instantly deal with his Red Capote
Don't use Zan attacks on him

You should just restart the game bro. Your party roster looks like shit. Or just go back, catch all the demons you haven't caught yet and fuse them into something better.
And don't buy demons like Erthys so early into the game. They are good only as fusion fodder, and you'll want to use them much later when you have more powerful demons to fuse away.

I don't get how people can get stuck in any of the bosses in this game, or jRPGs in general. all you have to do is grind. That's literally it. sure there are some games with time limits or some other gimmick to make grinding difficult but this isn't the case

Listen, get Rakukaja, and Sukukaja/Sukunda on your demons and get someone who voids force (MC can get a magmatama for this from the shop). Spend the first party turn just buffing but don't debuff him past -2 as that sets of the AI trigger to use Red Capote and Dekunda. With max +4 defense even with focus on his second phase he doesn't do much damage even on hard mode. Then just wail on him and you win. Easy peasy, note he is the only hard boss in the game

how do i catch nekomata? the only times I've got to fight her it was classed as a boss fight so i couldn't catch her. she just isn't showing up in any random battles

Because it's more effective and fun to make proper preparations and strategy over spending 5 hours repeating the same actions over and over. A bad party composition will get punished really hard. You'd have to be retarded to mindlessly grind forever instead of covering your weaknesses.
Also, try beating Demi-fiend and Satan in DDS1 and DDS2 by just "grinding". No using strategy guides on the internet either. It's not impossible by any means, but it is undoubtedly difficult.

you dont really need it, it just makes it easier, get 2 demons that void wind uzume and the hairball with the elephant trunk (forgot what it was called) are what i used and they really put in work

War Cry, Sukunda, Sukukaja/Rakukaja, Tarunda, Rakunda, use wind null and have someone with Media, if you can get Dekaja great but it's hard that early

Encounter them at full magatsuhi, keep talking to them and hope for the best.

You have to defeat the Ghost Bridge Master and then the ghost bridges will acknowledge your strength.

Yeah, this is the same for me. That fucking sword move that constantly crits kills most of my demons in a single hit on hard mode. There isn't much to prepare for with Dante, but Matador is cake if you know what you're dealing with.
