bump

Only when you are alone, when you put an NPC you want to shoot yourself.

Great games, Forbidden Siren II in particular.

both great games. if you have a ruin fetish and found SH too surreal, I really recommend them.
the commieblock levels in the second game offered some top tier exploration.

Still need to play the second one but the first one is really good

It would be an extremely good game, but it's ruined by the ridiculously obscure sub-objectives you have to complete in order to get anywhere. It pretty much forces you to use a walkthrough, which in turn strips all the fun out of the game. Just to be clear, I think games like the original Legend of Zelda are perfectly completable without any outside help: the sub-objectives in Siren are genuinely total bullshit.

I heard the sequel didn't improve this issue, so I didn't bother trying it.

Great and spooky
second one is even more terrifying
Never finished both of them unfortunately, thanks for reminding me to fix my ps2.
Movie was okay too btw

Once you learn how the levels and hint system works it's not that hard. The only problem is it doesn't explain itself so you kinda have to intuit the mechanics.

they had really impressive graphics for the time. the photographic textures worked wonders on the faces, especially in the second game where different textures were used depending on the angle in relation to the camera (maybe they used that for the first game too. I've forgotten).

Maybe tomorrow

too many escort missions and replaying old missions, way too cryptic
fantastic atmosphere and sightjacking mechanic
the second one is better but both are probably the toughest survivval horror games ever made
first one definitely filtered me

>way too cryptic
It really isn't when compared to shit like La Mulana.

I actually found La Mulana quite a bit more manageable. It's difficult, but there's some sort of underlying logic regaring how to proceed rather than just randomly guessing at what the developers wanted you to do every step of the way.

I'm a huge horror-fag, and always wanted to play Siren games. When I finally got the chance during early 2010s... I did not like them.
Too clunky gameplay, awful dub, and the episodic nature is an immersion killer.

Extremely clunky and cryptic but also unique. The second one improves gameplay mechanics and quality of life changes

never even heard about that exact game. any examples what is cryptic? mostly want to read ramblings about cryptic stuff

Horrible game, excellent survival horror. Requires a walkthrough in 40% of the missions (because either the 2nd mission is bullshit or the way to unlock missions is bullshit). Siren 2 is much better, has jap voices, has a fanrastic monster design, but I found it a bit less scary.

I remember while I was in one level I was supposed to take a towel and freeze it so another character passing through that same level at a later time could use the frozen towel as a weapon

The game has a mission structure. When you start a mission you are given an objective. Inside the missions you can do side things that will unlock further missions. But there are also 2nd objectives, which you also have to unlock and complete, and the prerequisites are batshit insane and sometimes are not spellt out explicitely (like the infamous towel that mentioned). Or when you're playing as Tamon best character, btw you have to lure the enemy to the well so it would fall down. Or there is a series of hidden buttons beneath some statues in several missions that you have to turn to unlock a late-game mission. And the game never tells you all of this, and the mission select only unlocks after you complete a certain amount of missions. If you didn't unlock new missions you just loop back to the beginning a certain amount of times.

You may not finish the game but its definitely worth experiencing
Second game improves on just about everything except maybe some subjective stuff like atmosphere and general aesthetic choices
Don't bother with Blood Curse unless you're just really desperate for more after playing through Siren 2

>the game never tells you all of this
I mean, the only thing it tells is something like "Prerequisite for at has been met" when you do the action. You can see hints in the mission select, but they're almost useless.

Siren 2 improved on it - you can actually see what you have to do on the mission map. It's still cryptic, but not in a bullshit way.

The intention behind Siren 1 was that the whole internet community would try to complete it, with people exchanging hints and whatnot.

now that I think about it that reminds me of the requirement for the good plus ending in silent hill 1
>"just take this inconspicuous bottle and scoop up what's left of some red liquid on the floor, then waaaaay later in the game, while fighting a boss that can one shot you, get close to the boss and use the liquid on it"

I somehow got that when I played it when I was like 10.
>Shoot Cybil a few times
>"Do I really have to kill her?"
>Try everything in the inventory. I mean, maybe something would work
>It actually worked

>but they're almost useless.
Not really, I beat it without a walkthrough and the 2 things I got stuck on were the candle and digging puzzle which I figured out with hints. The game really rewards experimentation unlike say, point n clicks.

Is the psn version dubbed? I remember the dub being awful, really took me out of the game. I'd love to replay it in Japanese.

Also did anyone ever go on the multimedia website when the game first came out? It was amazing. Set up like a bunch of journals and image boards and stuff, even a fake instant messenger. Really great stuff, made you feel like some hikikomori who'd stumbled onto something they shouldn't have.

They're still up, actually.

>Give hints
>U butthurt uhhhh?
Try playing Myst you fucking idiot then go back to Siren.

Was the PS3 PSN version good, at least compared to the PS2 games?

Its kinda mediocre compared to the first two
