I beat this game when I was 10 years old, so you must be retarded
you can beat almost any game without understanding it's combat system by spamming normal attacks
You have a stamina bar with a numerical value. You have 3 choices to attack, each using up a different amount of stamina. Bigger number, bigger damage but also a higher chance to miss. As you fight, the colored bars light up allowing you to use special moves. Between turns or when defending you regenerate stamina. Not that hard to figure out
>SEETHING this hard
It's okay, user, maybe you'll be able to beat this game eventually
Better than Trigger.
>Medium attack
>Medium attack
>Strong attack
>Use magic now that you're charged up
That's pretty much it, it's not a complicated system but I still love the game
>not strong attack strong attack use element
wtf are u doing sempai
That way you lose your turn and enemy attacks twice most likely
The action economy in Chrono Cross was honestly decently good, the problem is the rest of the battle system just wasn't that good.
How do people not understand this game's combat system? It's just addition and subtraction regarding stamina usage. It's a really simple combat system.
You're more of a brainlet if you can't explain the story / ending without using google
>high accuracy, low damage (+1)
>medium accuracy, medium damage (+2)
>high damage, low accuracy (+3)
Spend the numbers on equipped spells and each spell cast changes the field color, which also goes +1/+2/+3 for damage increases
Say that to my face fucker
You'll spend the same amount of action points in the end and this is more potential damage so you'll kill things faster
I mean most people still think the lost children are actually marle, chrono and lucca
Time Devourer merges with Schala, Belthazar discovers the entity and creates FATE to combat it. FATE is powered by the frozen flame which is a piece of Lavos. Belthazar constructs a chain of events using time kompression B.S. to defeat the time devourer.
Serge gets attacked by a panther and Wazuki hops on a raft with his friend to try and cure his wounds. They get lost, find chonopolis, and expose Serge to the frozen flame, granting him the prometheus circuit which ONLY allows him to access the frozen flame.
FATE can no longer use the flame and corrupts Wazuki into Lynx and sends him back in time to kill Serge. Kid, a fragment of Schala, gifted with a pendant to also go back through time, saves Serge and splits the timelines into Home and Another World as seen in-game by saving him.
Serge's bloodline is now the key to using the flame (again) and now Lynx must steal it for FATE. The dragons who were defeated by Belthazar, create Harle, a fragment of their power to follow lynx. She is a wildcard to assist whoever can get the frozen flame back to the dragons to reunite them into the dragon god.
Serge loses his body, gets stuck in another world because he's unable to use his time egg and must find the frozen flame to regain it. All this adventuring as foretold by Belthazar, the fucking architect, gives him enough power to combat Lavos after: kicking Lynx's ass, regaining his body, and slaying every fucking dragon Belthazar fucked years before to obtain the Chrono Trigger. Then he saves Kid or something.
Well i forgot the part about the lizardmen and Belthazar and should have said Lavos + Schala = Time Devourer but it's close enough. Fuck this story.
How can a game with such an overly complicated story and overly simplistic combat system be so great? It can't all be music, can it?
This. People who played CT first don't like CC because they expect a direct sequel.
If they played CC first, they'd see it is actually the better game.
CC's combat and leveling system (or lack thereof) were very unique. CT just copied the battle system from Final Fantasy VI, except for the lack of a screen transition at the start of battle. Combos, you say? Phantasy Star IV had a combo system and it was released a whole year and a half before CT.
CC also has a much better and more emotional story. Sure, the death of Crono in CT was pretty sad, but it's nothing compared to the orphanage scene in CC; my eyes actually teared up there.
Why even care? It isn't that hard. Few JRPG ever are.
No
The art direction helped too
>orphanage scene in CC; my eyes actually teared up there.
what a fucking pussy
I'd say the setting, art, music, and there's maybe one serious character in glenn. The story is the weak point of the game. Also the game doesn't let you completely wreck the combat system until much later with the rainbow shell gear and side quests to get Glenn's sword(s)
on top of this, regarding this part here:
>Bigger number, bigger damage but also a higher chance to miss.
the more small attacks you do, the less of a chance you have to miss with a bigger attack.
>field is pure white
>holy dragon sword
Welp, someone is going to die.
>hits lynx
>600 damage
>450 on everyone else
Every fucking time
Well yeah, Lynx is black innate, of course white elements will do more damage.
Are you simple, son?
Can't believe they were able to get away with this.
Probably because it looks more complex than it is.
I can't explain the story of most JRPGs I played as a teenager, to be fair.
>Fuck this story.
oh thank goodness. I don't know how anyone can recite the plot without feeling like this eventually.
there are ideas in the plot that I really like but it's a huge mess as it tries to come together as a narrative.
This is the only good boss in the entire game and it's a fucking tutorial on stamina/magic management to control the field color.
It's honestly better to know nothing about Trigger and just play Cross. I can't even remember how much of what I recited was represented in-game because I've read the Chronology to help understand the plot in the games.
I loved the field system. Unless the enemy had AllColor you could strategize at lower stats than normal.
Play a brainlet game like Persona 5 instead.
How did you get that far without understanding that colors have differences? Or did you grind like crazy?
Phantasy Star IV is also better than CT or CC
i played CC first, and loved it, but never beat it. I should really replay it
I beat CT years later, and loved it too. its great in its own way, but I still think CC is better.
I'm sure it's fun to assume other people are of lesser intelligence but the color and field systems and their effects are explained long before this point of the game.
at least CC combat isnt a rip off from final fantasy
this. I can't even remember what the point of anything was in FF7, something about clones
Played this game for the first time a year or so ago and it was an unforgettable experience. I haven't played many games like that, especially in my twenties. Art direction and music are the best.
Arni - Home.
my nigga
Cross leans entirely on its presentations.
The story and characters are dogshit and the combat system is a joke but it's still an extremely memorable game because of its environments and OST.
I never understood why jrpg stories are always so convoluted, with a billion plot turns and complications at every turn. Most of the things that happen in the story are essentially just filler that don't contribute to anything other than making the story seem deeper than it is.
What an utter fuckfest of a plot.
I still wonder what it would have been like if the game's world had been left separate from Chrono Trigger instead of forcing that ridiculous tie-in.
>You're more of a brainlet if you can't explain the story / ending without using google
I'd argue you're a brainlet if you actually take the story seriously.
>only get Harle's most important scenes with joke characters in your third slot
fucking madness
Oof, either you meant after (that can't be) or you just said you don't keep to memory the basic game engine. Which is an extremely normal thing to do when playing any game.
>doesn't understand basic element mechanics
>accidentally ran from combat multiple times
This person is actually retarded
